Trivia

  • Yanmega and its pre-evolution, Yanma, are the only Pokémon whose names begin with the letter Y.
  • Yanmega has the highest base Special Attack stat, as well as the highest base stat total, of any Template:Type2 Pokémon.
  • Yanmega is the largest Bug-type Pokémon.
  • Yanmega is the last Bug-type Pokémon in National Pokédex order as of Generation IV.
  • In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, Yanmega is said to spit gooey silk. However, it's unable to learn String Shot naturally.
  • Its Platinum Pokédex entry suggests that it uses physical moves, however, its Special Attack stat is higher than its Attack stat.
  • Although its Pokédex entry in HeartGold says it is able to easily carry an adult in flight, Yanmega is unable to learn the move Fly.
  • Yanmega and Yanma share the same Speed base stat.
  • Yanmega and its pre-evolution, Yanma, along with Togetic, Togekiss and Smeargle(by Sketch), are the only Pokémon that can learn all three variations of AncientPower.

Origin

It is, as its name suggests, based on the Meganeura monyi, a particularly large, prehistoric species of dragonflies.

Name origin

Yanmega's name is a combination of 蜻蜓 yanma, large dragonfly in Japanese, and Meganeura, a species of gigantic prehistoric dragonfly. Its Japanese name means the same thing, albeit in reverse. However, it could just simply be a combination of mega, meaning large, and yanma.
