The episode starts with Malva reporting directly from the league, chronicling up all the events that have taken place in the conference so far.It is revealed that,Ash,Alain, Sawyer,Remo and Tierno, all have advanced to the quarter-finals.Now it's time to fight their way up to the top 4.Malva ends her report, and the scene shifts to the first battle of the league-Ash vs Astrid.

Astrid's Mega Absol hits hard Ash's Hawlucha with a Psycho Cut,but the latter survives the attack, and retaliates with Flying Press, knocking it out,and thus Astrid is eliminated from the contest.Ash has now become the first semi-finalist.

Remo and Alain also secure their places in the penultimate rounds. Now it's time for Sawyer and Tierno to face each other for the last slot in the top 4. Ash meets Sawyer before the fight and wishes him best of luck.Sawyer thanks him and announces that he will look up to fight Ash in the semi-finals,since he considers him as his inspiration.

Meanwhile,Team Rocket is tagging along Malva who is bossing them left and right, and bugging them for assisting her for the interviews. They are in the least of their good humors, and extremely fatigued and cranked up,as Meowth comments.

The battle between Tierno and Sawyer is just about to begin, and a familiar and intimate face reconciles with our heroes and Trevor- Shauna. She is heartily welcomed by the folks, and is updated with all the league information she missed. Tierno sends out Ludicolo, and performs some awesomely synchronized dance steps together.Sawyer chooses Aegislash, which is scanned by Ash with his PokeDex. Ludicolo starts off with Rain Dance.Swirling thunder clouds cumulate up above the battlefield, and a heavy downpour starts. Sawyer orders a Swords Dance, sharply raising Aegislash's attack stat.

Tierno calls out for a Hydro Pump, which its opponent is unable to dodge.Sawyer correctly deduces that the rain has powered up both Ludicolo's speed, and its water-type attacks as well. However, after having taken one or two more hits,Sawyer counters Hydro Pump with King's Shield, and Aegislash transforms into its Shield form, surprising the kids who are unaware of such a phenomenon.

Nevertheless,Tierno orders a Hydro Pump, but this time,Aegislash negates it with a Sacred Sword,so powerful as to send Ludicolo flying. Tierno is shocked, and Sawyer orders another Swords Dance. Ludicolo tries to execute a Solarbeam, which Aegislash's Sacred Sword tears through, hitting it,and overpowering it. Tierno sends out Raichu, which once again perform dance steps with its trainer. Its Charge Beam is blocked off by Aegislash's King's Shield, but Raichu manages to burrow underneath the battleground to evade its opponent's attack, delivering a powerful blow with Dig,which renders Aegislash unable to battle.

Meanwhile,Team Rocket is down on their knees with the tiresome works of reporting and interview the trainers.Jessie vows never to hear anything pertinent to the league, but Malva arrives on the scene and orders them to rejoin their duties, and they freak out. Sawyer sends out Slurpuff against Raichu, which successfully renders its opponent immobilized by love, hitting it with Attract. This costs Raichu having been hit by an Energy Ball, and it seems far from recovery from its status ailment.Tierno briefly calls it back and replaces it with Blastoise.

Sawyer tries to work with the same strategy, opening the battle with Attract,so as to make Blastoise incapacitated and infatuated. But Tierno is not caught off guard this time, and a powerful Rapid Spin ordered by him easily destroys the attack. Blastoise then fires off a heavy-hitting Hydro Cannon, which becomes the final blow on Slurpuff.

Down to his final pokemon, Sawyer sends out his Sceptile. Tierno orders an Ice Beam, which Sceptile nullifies with Leaf Storm. Blastoise tries to execute another Hydro Cannon, but Sceptile's Leaf Blade bifurcates the move, and inflicts a critical damage on it. On Tierno's order, Blastoise prepares for a Skull Bash, but Sawyer commands Sceptile to use Frenzy Plant. Enormous whip-like vines emerge from the field, and the offshoots toss Blastoise in the sky. Before hitting the earth, it manages to summon the thunderclouds once again with Rain Dance. However, even so, it succumbs to its injuries.

Tierno summons his last pokemon, now a fully-recovered Raichu. Ash comments that Sceptile is now at advantage, since Grass types resist Electric attacks. But Clemont notes that, Rain Dance will prove beneficial for Raichu, since water is a good conductor of electricity.

Raichu begins to charge for Thunder, but Sawyer reveals his secret weapon. Using his key stone, he suddenly Mega Evolves his Sceptile. The audience is startled by this mighty metamorphosis, so is Tierno. Nevertheless, Raichu unleashes the attack, and Mega Sceptile survives it unscathed. Tierno is flabbergasted, but Sawyer attributes the reason behind this to Mega Sceptile's Lightning Rod ability.

Mega Sceptile charges off towards Raichu with a Dragon Claw, which the latter tries to counter with Charge Beam, but Mega Sceptile slashes it with the aforementioned move, the impact knocking it unconscious. Sawyer wins the battle. The matchups for the semi-finals pit Alain against Remo, and Ash against Sawyer.

After the battles are over, the gang reminds Ash of the fact that, he will need to have 6 pokemon, for the semi finals, and he currently owns only 5.

Watching the time, Ash freaks out as to why 'it' has not arrived by then. The rest of the gang wonder what he is referring to as 'it', but a honking tempo is spotted yonder, which makes Ash overjoyed. When it comes closer, none other than Goodra, Ash's former team member jumps out of it !

Trivia

File:Title Card XY Ash V2.png
The title card segment focuses on Ash for this episode

Errors

  • When Astrid tells her Absol to use Psycho Cut, it is shown as a regular Absol, but seconds later, when Hawlucha attacks it, it is shown as a Mega Absol. This is likely due to the fact that the animation in the shot where Astrid tells her Absol to attack was taken directly from Mega Evolution Special I, where Absol was in its regular form while using the move.
  • When Tierno sends out Raichu, its nose is smaller than normal.
  • When Sceptile used Leaf Storm to counter Ice Beam, Sceptile's Sceptilite, as well as the ends of the scarf, change position from near Sceptile's left shoulder to its right. Every other time they were seen they were shown near Sceptile's left shoulder.
  • Shortly after Tierno sends out Raichu for the second time, the back of Raichu's right ear is completely yellow instead of brown.
