Worry Seed (Japanese: なやみのタネ Worry Seed) is a non-damaging Grass-type move introduced in Generation IV.

Contents

Effect

Worry Seed changes the target's Ability to Insomnia. If a Pokémon affected by Worry Seed is switched out, it regains its original Ability.

Entrainment fails if the target's Ability is Truant, Multitype, Stance Change, Schooling, Comatose, Shields Down, Disguise, RKS System, or Battle Bond.

With this effect, the target Pokémon cannot sleep and wakes up if already asleep.

Generation IV

Worry Seed can be used successfully even if the target's Ability is already Insomnia.

Generation V

Worry Seed now displays the Pokémon's previous Ability before changing it.

Worry Seed now fails if the target's Ability is already Insomnia.

Generation VII

If powered up by a Grassium-Z into Z-Worry Seed, the user's Speed stat rises one stage.

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series

In Explorers of Time, Explorers of Darkness and Explorers of Sky, Worry Seed caused the sleepless status ailment to the Pokémon it's used against.

But in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity and later, it causes the opposing Pokémon's ability to change to Insomnia, just as it does in the main series games.

Trivia

  • Worry Seed's name is a play on 悩みの種 Nayami no Tane; although the expression is roughly "cause of trouble", an overly literal translation can yield "Worry Seed". 種 Tane (seed) is written using katakana to emphasize the move literally involves a seed.
