The Wonder Launcher (Japanese: ミラクルシューター Miracle Shooter) is a new multiplayer battle feature introduced in Black and White. During a multiplayer battle, if both players have the Wonder Launcher enabled, they will be able to purchase the use of certain items using points that are accumulated each turn.

During Wonder Launcher battles, the player characters have alternate sprites. The Wonder Launcher itself is something worn around the wrist, similar to the Fine Styler, and that shoots items at a Pokémon during battle.

Wonder Launcher items

Unlike in-game battles, the player cannot use items from his or her Bag; instead, there is a select set of items available to the player, including several items exclusive to the Wonder Launcher.

Each item has a certain point value which must be paid in order to use the item. At the start of their turn, the player gains one point to use or accumulate.

Wonder Launcher items are often simply different versions of regular items such as Potions, Revives, and battle items like X Attacks. However, there are also new items, such as upgraded versions of battle items, labelled by their level afterwards; for example, X Defend 2.

The Wonder Launcher style of battling made an appearance at the beginning of Movie Time! Zorua in "The Legend of the Pokémon Knight"! as part of a movie named Wonder Fighters the Movie Part 24: The Mystery of the Wonder Launcher. In the clip in the advertisement Ash, Iris, and Cilan saw, two Trainers battled using a Golurk and an Escavalier and used the Wonder Launchers to power up their Pokémon. The Wonder Fighter used an X Attack on her Golurk, while her opponent used an X Speed on his Escavalier.

Cilan had to find a Wonder Launcher as part of a scavenger hunt in Climbing the Tower of Success!.

Another Wonder Launcher was briefly seen in The Clubsplosion Begins!.

Trivia

  • In the games, there are three unused Wonder Launcher item sprites. These three sprites resemble the Max Ether WL Max Ether, Elixir WL Elixir, and Max Elixir WL Max Elixir. They were likely scrapped due to Ether already having a high cost.
  • In the anime and official Sugimori artwork, the battle item pucks all have half of the outer ring colored light gray, while in game sprites this area is dark gray.
