Trivia

  • Despite what its name would imply, and it being more associated with Ghost types, Will-O-Wisp is not a Ghost-type move, instead being a Fire-type move. The only possible explanation for this is because it inflicts a burn. A similar situation occurs with PoisonPowder.
  • Will-O-Wisp is the only status move capable of inflicting a burn.
  • In Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Black, and White, and Pokémon Battle Revolution, the animation shows the flames being purple, although the description says they are bluish white. Coincidentally, flames are that color in Generation III.
  • Even though Will-O-Wisp is a status move, it has always been shown in the anime as an offensive move, never causing any burns at all, in one instance being shown to equal Flamethrower in terms of power.
