  • When defeated
"I... I can't... believe it..."

Will

Will, along with Karen, Green, Silver, Sham, and Carl, is one of the children kidnapped by the Masked Man and raised to be his servants. Will was one of the few who were inducted as one of his followers of his own volition, and became one of the leaders of the new Team Rocket formed in Johto. After being cornered and beaten by Silver and the freeing of Ho-Oh and Lugia, which were under his command, he and Karen met Koga and Bruno, who after the Masked Man's defeat offered positions. Together, the four formed a new Elite Four and weren't heard of until HeartGold & SoulSilver chapter. In this recent reappearance, Will sports a new outfit that resembles his game counterpart's.

Trivia

  • Will's hair falls over the left side of his face, leading to his left eye being whited out in some depictions. This has spurred debate as to whether he has one functioning eye or two. This is rectified in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, where his overworld sprite clearly shows two eyes, both obscured by white. His mask thus acts like those of Batman and Robin.
  • His Japanese name Itsuki is shared with a character from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Itsuki Koizumi, who is an esper. The Psychic type, Will's preference, is known as the Esper type in Japan.
  • Will has several similarities with Lorelei. Both of them are the first challenger of Kanto Elite Four and both of them have used Slowbro and Jynx in their respective parties.
  • During a line of in-battle speech, Will says he is a psychic. There is also an NPC named Psychic William in Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald. He can be battled at Mt. Pyre with his Ralts (two Ralts in Emerald) and Kirlia.
  • All of Will's Pokémon (excluding Jynx, for obvious reasons) changed from male in Gold, Silver, and Crystal to female in HeartGold and SoulSilver.
    • Similarly to Saturn, Bugsy, Grimsley and Janine (in generation II) his Pokémon are the opposite gender of himself despite having a 50-50 gender ratio.
  • Will's Jynx changes abilities between battles in HeartGold and SoulSilver; in the first battle, she has Oblivious, but during the rematch, she has Forewarn. However, it is possible that he has two Jynx.
  • Will is the only member of the Indigo Plateau Elite Four that uses only Pokémon of the type that he specializes in the first match. All others have at least one Pokémon not of their specialty in their first match, and, with the exception of Lance, replace the Pokémon not of their specialty with Pokémon of their specialty in rematches.
  • All of Will's Pokémon are dual-typed the first time he is battled.
