Trivia

  • Ulgamoth, along with its pre-evolution, have a unique type combination.
  • Ulgamoth has the highest Special Attack of all Bug-type Pokémon, and the highest base stat total of all non-legendary Bug-type Pokémon.
  • Ulgamoth and Genesect are the only two Bug-type Pokémon to learn Fly.
    • Interestingly, neither of them are Flying-type. Between the two, Ulgamoth has wings and a viable way to fly.
  • As of Generation V, Ulgamoth is the last Pokémon in the National Pokédex that evolves from another Pokémon.
  • Ulgamoth takes the longest to go through a single stage of evolution of all Pokémon so far, evolving at level 59.
    • It is also one of the only pokemon to be caught through an over world interaction with a previous evolution capturable before hand, a trait shared with Zoroark.

Origin

Ulgamoth was most likely based on Mothra, right down to its design and ability to use its wing's shedding scales as weapons. It may also be a literal interpretation of the idiom "like a moth to a flame", seeing that it is both a Bug- and Fire-type. It also bears resemblance to an Atlas Moth.
