Welcome to Bulbapedia, Unowninator!
Bulbapedia bulb.png

By creating your account you are now able to edit pages, join discussions, and expand the community-driven Pokémon encyclopedia. Before you jump in, here are some ground rules:

  • Be nice to everyone. It's in the code of conduct.
  • Make good edits. Preview them before you save to make sure they're perfect the first time around.
  • Use wikicode and link templates when adding content to a page.
  • Use proper grammar and spelling, and read the manual of style.
  • You can't create a userpage until you've added to the encyclopedia. It's a privilege. See the userspace policy.
  • Use talk pages to resolve editing disputes. Don't "edit war," or constantly re-edit/undo the same thing on a page.
  • If you have a question about something, be proactive. Take a look at our FAQ. If you're still stuck, ask for help. The staff won't bite.
  • Sign all talk page posts with four tildes (~~~~). This will turn into your name and the time you wrote the comment.
  • For more handy links, see the welcome portal.
Thank you, and have a good time editing here!

Seafloor Cavern/trapped

Can you be more specific about what room you can get trapped in at the Seafloor Cavern? And if possible, how, in as much detail as you can manage? Tiddlywinks (talk) 06:36, 2 March 2016 (UTC)

I'll try and get a video if I can figure out how to work my Polaroid Cube+, otherwise I'll take pictures. Unowninator (talk) 07:04, 2 March 2016 (UTC)

Well this is embarrassing. I can't remember how to do it anymore, and I'm starting to think I overlooked the cliff. Guess I should delete the fact. *facepalm* Unowninator (talk) 07:21, 2 March 2016 (UTC)

Regarding Raichu

Hello. When someone undoes your edit, please do not simply add it back. If you'd like to start a discussion on it, please do so on the talkpage. As it stands, that particular piece of trivia doesn't need to be there. All it really says is that Yellow is the only Gen I game that doesn't have Raichu, and it's not notable. Thanks. Crystal Talian 11:12, 19 March 2016 (UTC)

VC Box printing

I don't think there's any particular difference in the VC Yellow that needs noting regarding the printing options. Let's talk about it.

Now, I only have the Japanese VC Yellow right now. It's possible there might be something different between the JP and US (if that's what you have) VC versions. But anyways, on page 4 of the manual, it only seems to say that you can't change the Print settings in the Options. (Which seems to actually be false. I was able to change them just fine.) Can you quote what you're seeing in your manual?

That aside, though, the option is still in the PC, so I think there's nothing that really needs noting. I mean, of course you can't connect a Game Boy Printer, so no one should expect it to actually work. But playing my US Yellow cartridge, if I try to print a Box I get "Printer Error 2"/"Check the Game Boy Printer Manual." (In my JP VC Yellow, it actually says it's trying to communicate when I select the print Box option. I suppose that's just a difference between the JP and US versions.) Does your VC Yellow (I assume US) say the same thing?

http://imgur.com/E5gaArB And I just found this one now. http://imgur.com/V1iAAQv Unowninator (talk) 18:27, 20 March 2016 (UTC)
Oops, forgot to mention. When I try printing from the Pokedex, nothing happens. When I try the PC, the music changes until I push (B). Unowninator (talk) 18:29, 20 March 2016 (UTC)
Interestingly, whereas the US VC manual has the exact same wording in both those places, the JP VC manual says different things (like I said, on page 4 it says the setting can't be changed, while on page 9 it actually says the option can't be selected/acted on).
Are you saying that when you try to print a Box, there's no message, no change of any sort except for the music?? It'd be pretty weird for JP vs US VC versions to be that different. O_o
I tried the Pokedex on my Yellow cartridge and it shows the same error message I see when I try to print a Box. But in JP VC, it did absolutely nothing, like you said and like the manual says. But anyway, that'd be for the Pokedex or Game Boy Printer pages. Tiddlywinks (talk) 18:55, 20 March 2016 (UTC)
In case you're interested, here are copies of the Japanese Yellow VC patches and the English Yellow VC patches (the original source). Both versions disable the Pokédex's print option by making it do nothing. I haven't checked what the commented-out print-related patches are for. SatoMew2 (talk) 19:45, 20 March 2016 (UTC)
The point is, if the printing option is mentioned on THAT particular page, it should be mentioned there that it can't be done on the VC. Unowninator (talk) 20:37, 20 March 2016 (UTC)
If the Print option within the PC menu acts the same in the VC as in a cartridge, then no, there is nothing that needs to be mentioned on the Pokémon Storage System page. Tiddlywinks (talk) 21:02, 20 March 2016 (UTC)
OK, I tested the unused patches.
Fix_print also changes the behavior of the Pokédex's print option. Normally, when the Game Boy Printer isn't connected, requesting a print makes the game return Printer Error 2 and play the printer theme, which after being dismissed, moves the cursor back to the Pokémon that the player chose in the Pokédex list. The patch would do the same thing except it would play the button-press sound effect and skip the error altogether.
As to the Japanese-only disable_print_check, it breaks the printer at Summer Beach House if the player tries to print, both when displaying Printer Error 2 (printer not connected) or when the game is printing (printer is connected), causing a freeze. This explains why they didn't use it.
disable_print is the only print-related patch that was used and it changes the behavior of the Pokédex's print option to play the button-press sound effect and do nothing. There are no other patches for Game Boy Printer functionality so everything is the same on both Game Boy and Virtual Console. The printer patches for the French, German, Italian, and Spanish Yellow VC releases are the same ones as the English patches. SatoMew2 (talk) 22:32, 20 March 2016 (UTC)
Sounds good, thanks. =) I'm not sure it's much worth it to try to note what difference there is on the Pokedex or Printer pages (in part because, again, you obviously can't attach a GB Printer), so, at the very least, I won't be touching those myself. =P Tiddlywinks (talk) 22:40, 20 March 2016 (UTC)

Wait, the games got a patch? (I'm in the middle of a game, so I can't check the e-shop right now). Unowninator (talk) 22:45, 20 March 2016 (UTC)

That's basically just referring to what changes were made to the games before they were put up on the VC. Tiddlywinks (talk) 23:36, 20 March 2016 (UTC)

Links/redirects

When you create links, please try to make sure they're not redirects. Taking a recent edit of yours as an example... One simple thing to keep in mind is that most pages are at their official/full title; so our "Brawl" page is only a redirect and the real page is at Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Also, Pokemon should pretty much never be linked by just their name; instead, you should link {{p|SPECIES}}, because all of our species pages are at SPECIES (Pokémon) (like Manaphy (Pokémon)). (You can find a bunch of other useful templates at Bulbapedia:List of link templates. There are a couple that are just like Pokemon species, namely moves and Abilities.)

Thanks. =) Tiddlywinks (talk) 09:10, 26 March 2016 (UTC)

Honestly, I just click Preview & check to see if the links are blue. If they are, I leave them alone. If red, I try to change it. Also, I just checked the Manaphy links, and I fail to see a difference. So I don't quite understand...
Also, I noticed quite a portion of my edits are undone by you. Do you check all new users or something? Unowninator (talk) 16:46, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
Visit Manaphy and Manaphy (Pokémon) in two separate pages (or tabs) and compare the pages. The difference should be pretty obvious. (It's not a huge difference; but still, we prefer not to link redirects.)
I check Recent Changes (not I alone, nor staff alone). I generally check areas of interest to me or anything that could be a "problem", and trivia is rather frequently a "problematic" section. That's all. Tiddlywinks (talk) 17:11, 26 March 2016 (UTC)

Talk page response

Just because there was no response to your comment on the talk page, doesn't mean you can just make the edit anyway. Have more patience, someone will comment in the mean time. If you wanted a quicker response, go to the talk page of the user that reverted you. And to answer, I reverted your edit because it was overly specific.--ForceFire 03:32, 28 March 2016 (UTC)

Unfortunately, patience is one of my weak points. I only undid the edit because I thought if it's not in Recent changes, it's not going to be noticed for a long time. My apologies.

Although I do wish I could have a 3rd vote to break the tie. If someone else agrees with you, I'd stop. Unowninator (talk) 03:35, 28 March 2016 (UTC)

*notices you protected the page* ... You're a moderator, aren't you? Unowninator (talk) 03:38, 28 March 2016 (UTC)
I'm a staff member, yes. Why?--ForceFire 03:40, 28 March 2016 (UTC)

Just asking. But if you are one of the staff, then I guess you have the final say. Very well, I'll stop. Once again, sorry about everything. Unowninator (talk) 03:43, 28 March 2016 (UTC)

Images

Images on Bulbapedia are hosted over on the Bulbagarden Archives. The ability to upload images is limited to autoconfirmed members, so if you're not autoconfirmed on the Archives, just ask a staff member to upload an image for you. On the topic of your image, the low quality and the black borders on the sides lead me to believe that you obtained it from a YouTube video. We do not allow users to obtain content/images from others without permission. Do correct me if I'm wrong, though. --Carmen (Talk | contribs) 17:47, 28 March 2016 (UTC)

Yeah, it was from youtube. I didn't think it mattered. My bad. Unowninator (talk) 19:41, 28 March 2016 (UTC)

Gym Leaders/Badges in the anime

A bit of advice: If something keeps getting changed, please check the page's history and any edit summaries to see if there's an explanation (and if you still disagree, discuss it). The In the anime bullet point for the Earth Badge says "given" because that's the only viable option within that list. Just read the sentence that introduces the list. Please do not keep changing it. Tiddlywinks (talk) 09:31, 29 March 2016 (UTC)

Well IMO, I think he earned it fair & square. But if we can't say that, what about just "other", or even an footnote with an asterisk or that underline thing?Unowninator (talk) 19:04, 29 March 2016 (UTC)
The list is about what Misty said. And Misty gave two options: earned or given. So no, we will not create a third one just because someone(s) doesn't like how one of them is characterized.
Nor is there any need for any sort of note. A smart reader can very easily make their own judgement in that regard; there's simply nothing we need to say.
(As an aside, try to indent your responses one space further than the previous person's, using ":". You can take this section as an example. Thanks.) Tiddlywinks (talk) 19:24, 29 March 2016 (UTC)

Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire Version

Please don't create a redirect because of a template error, learn how to use the template. To make it plural just add |s near the end of the template like so: {{game|Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire|s}}.--ForceFire 12:37, 30 March 2016 (UTC)

On the other hand, like I mentioned above, using the "game" template with XY or ORAS makes a redirect (since it inserts "Version" and the Gen VI games don't use that); "g" should really be used instead: {{g|Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire}}. (I know our game templates are a bit of a mess. =P ) Tiddlywinks (talk) 12:41, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
Adding on to the confusion (sorry!), the "|s" parameter isn't needed when using {{g}}. It's only used to make {{game}} link to "Pokémon <game> Versions" instead of just "Pokémon <game> Version". I don't think it actually does anything when used with {{g}}.
Additionally, just a reminder to try to preview your edits with the Show Preview button. Your recent edit to Cosplay Pikachu created a template redlink that could have easily been caught with a preview.--Cold (talk) 03:34, 1 April 2016 (UTC)

Huh; I thought I fixed that?

Edit: Okay, now I see what happened: I typed it in, but forgot to save it. *facepalm* And I didn't forget about Preview; I just misclicked again. *facepalms again* Unowninator (talk) 03:41, 1 April 2016 (UTC)

Ah, don't worry about it then, we've all been there. Just try to be more careful in the future :)--Cold (talk) 04:11, 1 April 2016 (UTC)

Creating pages

Please do not create pages with no article content as you did on SpotPass. Because there was a previous article in another user's userspace, their article should be moved to the mainspace by a staff member rather than a new page being created. --Abcboy (talk) 04:43, 5 April 2016 (UTC)

Huh? I'm not sure I understand. I found nothing on Spotpass when I did a search. Unowninator (talk) 15:46, 5 April 2016 (UTC)

Reverting Edits

Hello. As I mentioned on Raichu's page, when someone undoes your edit, please do not simply add it back. This is called edit warring and is a blockable offense. If you still think the edit was a good idea, please discuss it on the talk page. Thank you. Crystal Talian 02:16, 7 April 2016 (UTC)

Ughh, I really hate my lack of patience. This is the 2nd time this happened here.

Sorry once again. If you want to block me, do what you will. Unowninator (talk) 02:26, 7 April 2016 (UTC)

Uploading images

You've been told about this, I'm aware, but just to remind you, to upload images you do so by creating an account over at the Archives. Once you've created an account, you must be autoconfirmed yo be able to upload, the requirements for autoconfirmed by the same over at the wiki (a certain amount of mainspace edits and be a user for a while).--ForceFire 03:27, 9 April 2016 (UTC)

I know I have to do a number of edits before I can upload, I just don't know the exact amount I need. Thanks anyway though. Unowninator (talk) 03:31, 9 April 2016 (UTC)

Talk page formatting tips

Not sure if you know this already, but when you're replying to someone on a talk page, put colons (:) in front of your message to indent them, generally one more colon than the person you're replying to. This makes the conversation easier to follow and also places your message on a new line without necessitating a second line break. You can also lead your message with asterisks to start it with a bullet, or lead it with a space, like you did on Talk:Milk Drink (move), to make it appear in that box thing (I'm not sure what use that has, I've rarely seen anybody do that on purpose). You can see some examples of what I'm talking about on the wikicode page (bottom of the first table), and in some of the messages on this talk page.--Cold (talk) 23:18, 15 April 2016 (UTC)

So it was a space that did it, huh? Okay, thanks for the tip, as well as the link. Unowninator (talk) 23:46, 15 April 2016 (UTC)
Just to piggyback on a related topic, please don't leave HTML comments like this on talk pages (or any page). Something (hidden) like that is just completely pointless. Thanks. Tiddlywinks (talk) 01:12, 16 April 2016 (UTC)

The Preview Button

Instead of editing a page several times in a row, try using the preview button to make sure your edit looks the way you want it to. It's right next to the Save Page button. Please try it out, so as not to clog up the Recent Changes. Also, if you want to edit multiple sections of the page, make sure that you click "edit this page" at the top of the page rather than editing it by section. Thanks! --Tiddlywinks (talk) 01:12, 16 April 2016 (UTC)

If you're talking about that box thing, I did use it, but then I thought "it must just be showing me the change I added" for some reason, as in it would vanish upon posting. Turned out not to be the case.
Although I do admit I sometimes forget to use it, that wasn't the case this time. Unowninator (talk) 01:28, 16 April 2016 (UTC)
Yeah, I posted this in part because you've expressed similar surprise at your own edit a few times in the past already. Tiddlywinks (talk) 01:50, 16 April 2016 (UTC)
Just to clear up any possible confusion, since I've seen you make this assumption at least once before: what you see when you click "Show preview" is exactly how it will look when you save the page. There may be a few small exceptions (eg. signature timestamp), but a preview should never specifically indicate what you've changed.--Cold (talk) 02:43, 16 April 2016 (UTC)

Trivia

Hey, I've noticed that you mainly edit the trivia sections, while there's nothing wrong with that, it's best not to spend all your time on the trivia section and contribute to the mainspace. I've also noted that a majority of your trivia have either been reverted or reworded because they we're either vague or too specific, so I think you should take a step back and decrease your edits t the trivia section. Thank you.--ForceFire 03:57, 17 April 2016 (UTC)

TBH, thinking of trivia is what I enjoy the most for some reason, plus I usually can't think of anything else to do here. And I've never been good at Language Arts, so writing an entire article is out of the question for me. :/ What else is there for me to do? Unowninator (talk) 04:17, 17 April 2016 (UTC)
Editor's Hub is a good place to start. It doesn't have to be a large scale edit, it can be something minor like a spelling/grammar fix. You're on a wiki, you can't say there's nothing to edit :P--ForceFire 04:46, 17 April 2016 (UTC)
Technically, I didn't. :p One thing, how long exactly before I'm allowed to do trivia again? Unowninator (talk) 05:51, 17 April 2016 (UTC)
Didn't say you couldn't, just to slow down on the trivia edits and not focus solely on the trivia.--ForceFire 06:11, 17 April 2016 (UTC)
