Welcome

Welcome to Bulbapedia, Sunain!

As a new user, you may wish to learn a few things that will be useful in your editing:

  • For a basic overview of wiki code, see this page.
  • The manual of style is very important. Make sure to read it. It outlines all official policies of Bulbapedia.
  • Keep an eye on the Messages from the Editor on the main page, to stay informed on current events on Bulbapedia.
  • The word Pokémon is spelled with a capital P and an accented é. The é can be accessed by holding Alt and typing either 130 or 0233 on a Windows computer, and by using Option + e, then e again on a Mac. Otherwise, you can easily click it in the character palette below the editbox.
  • The word Poké Ball is spelled as two words. The "Poké" part is identical to the four beginning letters in "Pokémon"; "Ball" is spelled with a capital B. The spelling "Pokéball" arises frequently, but is incorrect.
  • The word "you" and all forms of it should not be used on encyclopedic pages unless it is a quote from Pokémon or other media. Bulbapedia is an encyclopedia, not a walkthrough.
  • On talk pages, please sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
  • The use of link templates is official policy. For an explanation on their use, see the page on shortlinks.
  • If you happen to spot a vandal in the recent changes that has not been dealt with, please see this page for how to deal with it.
  • A list of pages that are linked to, but have not been created, can be found at this page. A list of short articles that may require more information can be found here, while a list of articles that need improvement can be found here.
  • For a future capture, release, trade, or evolution of a Pokémon belonging to a main character of the anime, please do not create or move the page to reflect your suspicions, even if they are shared by many others. Policy here is to wait until the episode in which the event happens takes place is aired, unless there is substantial evidence for the suspicion (such as Brock's Happiny being held in his arms).
  • Image uploading is done on Bulbagarden Archives, a separate wiki accessible through the toolbox in the sidebar. This is done so that both Bulbapedia and Bulbanews have access to the images uploaded. To activate your account at the Archives and Bulbanews, please login there using the same username and password you use here on Bulbapedia.
  • If you want to make a page about a character you made up, please create it at User:Sunain/(name), not merely (name). Bulbapedia's main namespace is reserved for actual, official Pokémon, items, characters, and locations. Also, please try to make sure that subpages are not categorized by templates used within.
  • Having said this, please make sure that you do contribute adequately to the main namespace. Bulbapedia is not MySpace or Facebook.
  • A list of the admins that you can contact in case of a problem can be found here.

Thank you, and have a good time editing here! --MoldyOrange 18:33, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

Intense Fight in the Destroyed Sky

I'll say this once - refrain from moving this page or further action will be taken the next time you do it. There are two reasons for the set being on that page:

  1. It's the most accurate translation (in other words, it's the set name).
  2. Even if you disagree, PokéBeach calls it IFDS. We do not want to cause confusion within the community.

If you don't like it, then you'll just have to be patient. Chances are we'll know the English name in a couple of months, so you'll just have to wait until then. Regards, Cipher 07:49, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Your changes has been reported to zhenlin, considering he, tss and I all discussed the translation of this title a while back. Copying Pokebeach's incorrect translations will not be tolerated. The english titles have no place in a Japanese translations as they are almost always different. Modifying pages without doing the research yourself is not a good idea. Just because 'other sites' post the information doesn't mean it's right.

I'm gonna be kind for now and will ask one thing of you. You absolutely cannot deny that the best-known name of the set is IFDS. It's used on PokéBeach and the PokéGym, so the vast, vast majority of people on here know it as that, and you can't deny that. I ask that you refrain from changing the set's page at all (keeping the names as IFDS) until we've sorted this ridiculous thing out. I think that's fair, don't you?
Oh, and if you're so certain that it's not the right name, ask WPM for a retranslation. Bangiras is an excellent translator and I'm sure she'd be more than happy to have another look at the Japanese name. Cipher 18:39, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

(激闘 【げきとう】 gekitou (n,vs) fierce fighting) has been used as the translations for: http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/AG164 http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/AG131 http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/DP078

<&Sunain> 破空の激闘 <&Sunain> Fierce Fighting of the ? <&zhenlin> 破 = broken, 空 = space/sky - make of that what you will... <&Sunain> "Fierce Fighting in Broken Space"

For goodness' sakes, I heard you the first time. Cipher 18:46, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Pokébeach cannot be blatantly wrong every time. Just because they used the blatantly wrong "Moon Hunting" and "Night Dashing" for Japan DP4 does not mean all of their translations are blatantly wrong.

For starters, we're still using the translations they used for Japan DP5--Temple of Anger and Cry from the Mysterious--just in the opposite order (Cry, then Anger as opposed to Anger, then Cry). If they were blatantly wrong, they would have been changed before the name Legends Awakened was revealed for the English set.

Additionally, try reading a recent comment on my talk page--you'll see just why "Intense Fight in the Destroyed Sky" CANNOT be considered blatantly wrong. Unless Zhen Lin himself says otherwise, knowing that Pokébeach's translation is not blatantly wrong, the page stays at Intense Fight in the Destroyed Sky. --Shiningpikablu252 20:50, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

I say leave it, but keep a redirect. We'll find out an English name soon enough. TTEchidna 04:06, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

I did oops. I'm sorry I won't take them again. --☆Coolピカチュウ! 01:44, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
For the record, if you really don't want people stealing your anime screenshots, I'd suggest watermarking or sitestamping them. This way, if anyone tries to upload them onto the Archives, we'll know right away it's from #pocketmonsters and take action, similar to how action is taken on people who upload Pokébeach's TCG scans onto the Archives. Of course, it's just a suggestion, you don't actually have to do anything...--Shiningpikablu252 16:39, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, I have a question

Did you only make an account here so you can go trolling around to see if we took any of your things? You could try helping us you know. Your translations would do a good deal for Bulbapedia. But no... You don't want to. Sorry if this sounds rude, but I wanted to speak my mind for a while now. --ケンジガール 03:33, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

I've had an account on Bulbapedia since it was created. I don't troll and resent the fact that you suggest that I am doing so. Your very post is the reason why we have taken this stance against people using our content without credit. We work hard to produce content for the Pokemon community and all they ever do is complain. I'm just reporting issues that are against the Bulbapedia's rules. Please familiarize yourself with: Integration of content from other websites.
I helped out in the past but Bulbapedia has turned into a leech and copy and paste fest instead of creating quality content. I have attempted to help out in the past and reported consistency errors, but as you can see from the above talk page and other logs throughout the site, the number of noobies and unmoderated articles on Bulbapedia has substantially increased to the point that it has fallen and it some of its users have developed a form of Wikipedia Syndrome. A simple look at the Recent Changes log indicates the amount of foolishness that occurs here now. Between these reasons and the fact that we absolutely hate wiki markup language (should have just used html) is why do not want our content being copied. --Sunain 04:58, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
While I agree that there's way too many noobs who don't read the MOS, you can hardly paint it all with the same brush, especially since I strive to keep it as far from becoming TOW as I can. I can't watch every one of the nearly 15,000 articles on my own you know.
And wiki markup is...
F F F F F F F   U           U   N           N
F               U           U   N N         N
F               U           U   N   N       N
F F F F         U           U   N     N     N
F               U           U   N       N   N
F               U           U   N         N N
F                 U U U U U     N           N
I know there's been bad blood between PM and Bulba in the past. But seriously. Can we get past it? TTEchidna 05:11, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
I'm just having a hard time understanding that you want to help Bulbapedia, yet you freak out anytime someone takes your stuff without permission. First of all, those screenshots don't belong to anyone. They belong to Pokémon. And I think you should realize that when you post things on the internet, people are bound to use them for there own purposes. If you don't want people to take your screenshots or translations, then don't post them in the first place. For the most part, Bulbapedia writes their own articles. We "copy and paste" very little and I am insulted that your label us all as lazy. Sometimes we want a little break. Not everyone here speaks Japanese. I believed that using translations made by another user of Bulbapedia wounldn't be a problem but I guess I was wrong. Yes its true, people should ask for your translations first, but hey, that's the way the cookie crumbles.
Do you have any idea how much stuff I post here with out recieving any credit? What makes you entitled to credit? I write the articles. Do I go and put my name on it? No. As a user of Bulbapedia, you have to expect not to recieve credit sometimes.
Anyway, its a real shame that you don't want to share your abilities with us and that your taking it out on Bulbapedia for things that you have against the users... I guess your just so used to everyone telling you how glorious you are for subbing Pokémon episodes that everytime someone gives you a little critism, you throw a temper tantrum like a two year-old. Oh and removing talk page comments is against the MoS, the thing that your urging me to familiarize with... Have a nice day. --ケンジガール 05:34, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
It's attitudes just like this that's what's wrong with the Pokemon community and Bulbagarden. And for this reason and many others, #Pocketmonsters has ended its affiliation with Bulbagarden. --Sunain 05:58, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
In all realities, taking shit outright is never good, but despite that fact, translations aren't really copyrightable. Voy Al Cine. That translation of "I'm going to the movies" is now copyright 2009 me. The translation of the same thing should really end up as the same no matter what. I don't care if it's Japanese or Spanish.
Either way, Sunnygo, if you wanna end the affiliation, you're free to. Just make sure you tell Archaic. TTEchidna 06:11, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, this just proves to me what kind of person you really are... --ケンジガール 06:09, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Talk Page Comments

Please don't erase talk page comments for no reason. Trust me, you do NOT want to end up like Big Johnno, who got into an edit war with a sysop over comments the former had erased and was trying to keep erased. That user ended up blocked and subsequently had every erased comment restored. --☆Coolピカチュウ! 05:08, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Wow

You think you can yell at us for not following our rules when you can't even follow them yourself? Typical. MaverickNate 05:10, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Pst. By the way.

It's a Magikarp. Its nickname is スシ (sushi), OT of けい (Kei). Magikarp's among very few pure Water-types ( みず ) that have 1,250,000 exp. at level 100, the only other there is is Shellder. And who would name a Shellder "sushi"? TTEchidna 10:47, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

Copyright issues

If you're having copyright issues, talk to me about it--don't start an edit war. -- evkl (need to talk?) 17:33, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
