==I CAN EDIT THE BULBAPEDIA AND YOU CAN'T==

Hello, I am new to Bulbapedia, I created a page called [[Japanese preview]], may you please check it out and tell me what you think. If you want you can change or edit it to make it more understanding. [[Pikachu|pika..pika.... :)]]
Neener neener neenerDon't worry, though, I'm sure I'll go straight back into total inactivity once the lockdown is finished.   --[[User:Pie|Pie]] ~[[User talk:Pie|♪]][[Special:Contributions/Pie|♫]] 17:18, 15 March 2010 (UTC)

Hey. Saw the message you left on my page. I understand; it just didn't say anything about tests/"studies" being done to prove that. [[User:An0nymous|An0nymous]] 02:18, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi. What do you want me to do differently with the new articles that I create? I read the manuel of style and it didn't get what I should to to make articles that you don't have to clean up. Please tell me. [[User:Carnivine|Carnivine]] 2 March 2007

== That friggin' move war ==

:Hello, I am a new user (15 Feb) and I noticed that the dub name of Masago town was Sandgem Town, which I didn't see a source so i moved the page. After a little "move war" a user named Maxim left a note on my user talk.

''Idiots!'' (==)

Because of your stupid move war you completely messed up Sandgem/Masago Redirect! It IS mentioned in Episode. So, there ARE SOURCES! The name is O.F.F.I.C.I.A.L! And stop fighting --[[User:Maxim|Maxim]] 19:09, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

::After I removed it because I thought it was disresceptful, he left another one

Another fool with oversized ego. You were FIGHTING. Edit fight = VANDALISM! So, I have to respect vandalisms? Since when? This is a wiki. This is not place for fighting. If you want to fight, marry each other. --[[User:Maxim|Maxim]] 19:32, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

The user is being rude and disresceptful. May you please talk to Maxim and please remove my mistake..

== The Card Game project ==

Hey, I was wondering a few things about the Pokémon Trading Card Game project. See, I don't really think we need to sort the cards in the category by the card number. I've been doing my best to avoid them, you see. See, I've been thinking through the aspects of the project for a while now, and I think that it would be a lot easier to make it work if we avoided using the numbers. I believe I have spoken on this before, but using the numbers would make it a lot harder to keep everything from English and Japanese together.

On another note, thanks for making all of those categories for Pokémon in the TCG. Actually, I was thinking of another idea to further categorize them by Pokémon and by name (for such cards as Blaine's Vulpix), but I thought that it might make too many tiny categories. What do you think about categories for specifically named Pokémon, Trainer Cards, and Energy Cards? I'm thinking of having Trainer Cards and the like have separate articles for the Trainer Card's name and prints of the card. So there would be, say, "Bill (TCG)" and "Bill (Base Set)." If a card said something along the lines of "Search your deck for a card named Bill," it would link to "Bill (TCG)," which would list all cards with that name. What do you think of all of this? -[[User:Happy Mask Man|Happy Mask Man]] 02:26, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
:We can find alternatives for the Japanese-only cards, sort them into categories with *'s instead of numbers.  But overall, given all the other naming and sorting options, the number system is the best one I've seen that makes any sense and is closest to being universal.  I really don't think many people distinguish these cards using the levels written on them, you know?  So why should we?
:I think that might make the categories too small, yes.  As far as trainer cards... that's a difficult one.  On one hand, we should disambig between any cards with the same name and different text... but not reprints of the same card, like every card in Base Set 2... so I do think we should have trainer cards noted by set.  But at the same time, if there's only one version of a card ever - there's no reason for a disambig.  Like, for example, if besides reprints there's only one Bill (Base Set), Bill (TCG) should just redirect to that.
:Most other people have given up on trying to organize the TCG articles - I believe Zhen confirmed to me that he has over AIM - and I'm one of the few who's still trying to work this out regardless of the giant headache it's giving me.  So sorry if I get a little snippy about this, but this really is the most annoying section of the Bulbapedia to organize ever.  --[[User:Pie|Pie]] ~[[User talk:Pie|♪]][[Special:Contributions/Pie|♫]] 03:16, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

::Eh, I just prefer the idea of having two set lists in the article on the set and having the category for the set just be organized by alphabetical order. Besides, people usually don't refer to cards by anything but the card's name and set anyway. See, between δ Delta Species Pokémon and the new Pokémon LV.X in the DP series, it seems more convenient to use levels and other universal identification in a particular series. Also, Pokémon Card GB referred to different cards of a Pokémon by their levels.

::Really, I have about all of the TCG organization planned out. Level for original series, e-card ID for e-card series. In the advance series, the only cards that have the same name in the same set are cards that were from Japanese decks that were merged into an English set. Oh, and things like Unown. The DP series brings back levels and introduces a new game mechanic based on them. This organization method is based on universalness. It also helps to better organize cards that switch around from set to set from Japanese to English. As for Base Set 2 and Legendary Collection, since they're total reprint sets, I'm not planning on having separate articles for cards reprinted there. I do plan on having articles for other reprints of cards though. Things a reprint of Potion in some set would get a separate article.

::The only thing that I haven't been completely sure of is making separate articles for Trainer cards that only get one print as the main article for the card and for its print in a set. I guess that if there's only one print, it could be a redirect... Then again, things like [[TM06]] get their own articles... I'm not too sure on this issue. I have most everything else planned out. I guess it's just a matter of getting everyone to agree now. I really believe that this project can work. -[[User:Happy Mask Man|Happy Mask Man]] 04:31, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
:::Fine.  Whatever.  I really don't even care anymore.  I've been working my butt off trying to find some way to organize that section - I should be glad someone else is taking it on. --[[User:Pie|Pie]] ~[[User talk:Pie|♪]][[Special:Contributions/Pie|♫]] 04:34, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
::::Now that I am recategorizing articles, what should I do with the English number for cards that have holo and non-holo versions? -[[User:Happy Mask Man|Happy Mask Man]] 05:47, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
:::::If the non-holographic versions of cards all have to have separate articles now, could the holographic version at least keep the default name and have the non-holographic version say "Non-holo" in the title? -[[User:Happy Mask Man|Happy Mask Man]] 21:31, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi! I guess someone as technical as you already knows this, but here's a shorter shortcut to "é" you can recommend to other editors: '''ALT+130''' (maybe yours is more correct because of the amount of digits and all that... :S). Also I wonder if there's a way to insert them in Bulbapedia edit fields via a button combination of ALT and some other letter for example. I notice the Manual of Style has a section about "é and other characters", but it doesn't advise how to input them (character palette, ALT, etc.). --[[User:Johans|Johans]] 17:49, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
:Huh, no, I didn't know that.  Well, 0233 is sort of already ingrained into my memory..  ^^o  As for an even shorter shortcut, if anyone would know, it'd be Zhen, so bug him about the idea. --[[User:Pie|Pie]] ~[[User talk:Pie|♪]][[Special:Contributions/Pie|♫]] 18:40, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

== ...KYAPISU? ==

Hey. o.o<br />What does "KYAPISU" mean, exactly? I have absolutely no idea, but *his* use of it is really starting to piss me off.--[[User:Urutapu|Loveはドコ?]] ([[User talk:Urutapu|talk]] <small>•</small> [[Special:Contributions/Urutapu|contribs]]) 19:15, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
:I tend to, when upset and explaining policy and the like to someone, end with "Capisce?", which is Italian for "Understand?" and used in slang.  From what I understand, he's gotten into the habit of using it as well, but in Japanese romanization sort of spelling.  I don't know if it's a way of mocking me or just coincidence.  But it bugs me a lot.  --[[User:Pie|Pie]] ~[[User talk:Pie|♪]][[Special:Contributions/Pie|♫]] 19:42, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
::''Aha.'' I know what "capisce" means, I'm Italian on my dad's side, but. Yeah. That's a...strange thing for him to do. >>; "kyapisu". That lso means he doesn't know how it's ''pronounced'', since it should be a "shu" or something at the end. Anyway.<br />...hasn't this guy ever actually gotten in ''trouble''? Seems like a given by now.--[[User:Urutapu|Loveはドコ?]] ([[User talk:Urutapu|talk]] <small>•</small> [[Special:Contributions/Urutapu|contribs]]) 23:22, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
:::I believe "su" = "shu" in Japanese, actually.  But anyway, we've mostly given him a lot of warnings.  He tends to back off when we point out that he's crossing the line.  If he oversteps his authority again any time soon, he will probably get a temporary ban.  --[[User:Pie|Pie]] ~[[User talk:Pie|♪]][[Special:Contributions/Pie|♫]] 23:26, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

== Wikipedia Content ==

I just selected Recent Changes and saw this: [http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/User_talk:MudkipNDS]. It was I who suggested this; was I in error? Since Wikiproject Pokemon over there IS trying to encourage its members (including me) to use any info from there to fix up articles here... -[[User:WarthogDemon|WarthogDemon]] 19:47, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
:Bulbapedia and Wikipedia have incompatible licenses, I'm afraid.  And different styles, if you didn't notice; I'm rather particular about standardizing the headings in the Pokémon species articles.  I believe you can, however, incorporate the information if you rework it so the text isn't the same, matches Bulbapedia's styles and standards, etc.  We welcome the contribution, it's just the importing that's trouble.
:Though... what ''is'' going on there that prompted this?  --[[User:Pie|Pie]] ~[[User talk:Pie|♪]][[Special:Contributions/Pie|♫]] 19:54, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
::They do?!? Wow; I thought we did have compatible licences . . . basically there has been several months of discussion to a consensus that we merge all the pokemon to lists (20 per article). This has caused an alarm to some pokemon fans complaining about how there's a lack of content now. So we've directed them here. I'll tell them on the Project's talk page that if they get the content from Wikipedia's articles, they'll have to rework them and not just copy/paste. Sorry for the miscommunication, and don't worry; I doubt you'll have a massive flood of copy/pasters just yet. :p Cheers! -[[User:WarthogDemon|WarthogDemon]] 19:59, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
:::Christ, really?  That sucks, and doesn't sound like the best solution.  But yes, unfortunately, Bulbapedia has a different license than Wikipedia, and it does create some problems... --[[User:Pie|Pie]] ~[[User talk:Pie|♪]][[Special:Contributions/Pie|♫]] 20:09, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
:::Clarifying: the reason we're doing the merges in the first place is to make the Pokemon pages better organized, as some of the articles were not conforming to Wikipedia's policies and were litered with fan/gameplay info to the point where that was most of what an article was. -[[User:WarthogDemon|WarthogDemon]] 20:01, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
::::I see.  I'm aware that the Pokémon articles have been the subject of debate for a while now... --[[User:Pie|Pie]] ~[[User talk:Pie|♪]][[Special:Contributions/Pie|♫]] 20:09, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
:::::So it has. I hope we haven't accidentally allowed mayhem to run amok here. Anyway if you want the full stories, here's the page: [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Pok%C3%A9mon]. Yes it's big so feel free to skim. :p I myself didn't like the merges at first, but after reading the reasoning behind it all I found myself agreeing. Plus, it's given me a reason to make my inactive account active here. I've been meaning to use this for months... anyways hope I can become a good contributing member here. :) -[[User:WarthogDemon|WarthogDemon]] 20:12, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
::::::... wow.  Uh.  Well, yes, everyone's welcome here, and the information is definitely so, even if it may take a while to incorporate into the articles.  We could use the additional support, in fact.
::::::At least now I know my time as the acting editor in chief while Zhen Lin's away won't be boring... --[[User:Pie|Pie]] ~[[User talk:Pie|♪]][[Special:Contributions/Pie|♫]] 20:21, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
:::::::I was actually thinking it was a bad idea at first too, though I can see now why they decided to do so and support it. Plus, each Pokemon do have descriptions about it like [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Pok%C3%A9mon_%281-20%29]. (The lists look a bit like pokedex pages now if you ask me.) And some articles ''are'' being considered for staying. Pikachu, so far, is a definite keeper. -[[User:WarthogDemon|WarthogDemon]] 20:35, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Hey Pie I have a suggestion for the video game selection.  How about actually '''deleting'''  the Smash Bros. series??? Come on, the series only has a little to do with Pokémon through the addition of playable characters such as Pikachu! In my opinion, that isn't part of the Pokémon series. Instead, it's in a completely different genre by itself with just some playable Pokémon characters. [[User:MudkipNDS|themaestro2.0]] 05:43, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

I made the same mistake, and started adding those ages to the timeline.  But do you see how the ages are labeled as "年齢(推定)"?  Stick that in Babelfish and you get "Age (presumption)".  Meaning that most of them are estimated.  So, unless there's another source for the ages (for many, that'd be in-anime mentions; Brock's age is on official sketches of his character, though to be honest I've ''heard'' this information from sources I trust, but have not ''seen'' the images myself...) --[[User:Pie|Pie]] ~[[User talk:Pie|♪]][[Special:Contributions/Pie|♫]] 17:35, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

Do you think the original design of Jynx is a racist stereotype of African-Americans?
:I don't like making assumptions.  There are some things about Jynx which match that awful design, and then there are some things which seem out of place if that was their intent.  I think if there was any inspiration from it, it wasn't an intended or malicious insult to African-Americans.  But the fact remains that there are people still offended by Jynx, so. --[[User:Pie|Pie]] ~[[User talk:Pie|♪]][[Special:Contributions/Pie|♫]] 17:18, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

It seems before viewing pages about shipping it still gives you a pointless warning before letting you enter. :No, no, you misunderstand as usual.  It's not that I think you're useless.  It's that I'm enough of a geek about this too that I don't get all shocked and awed about what you know and think your vast knowledge is amazing (for example, I kind of laughed that you used Miracle Cycle as an example, because from my perspective anyone who plays the games and reads the signs should know what that is).  We have a lot of bright minds here at Bulbapedia.  Yours isn't exactly outshining anyone.

==Sigs==
You appear to be the person to talk to. This site needs a sig policy, like, NOW. These sigs are insultingly huge, most likely lag the wiki, disrupt pages, and are inaccurate. Some even have outside links to things like youtube. I don't know much about policy making, but [http://pvxwiki.com/wiki/PvX:SIGN this site's] policy is excellent. Seriously, artful sigs are nice, and within reasonable limits make a wiki easier on the eyes. But these sigs lend an air of illegitimacy:

::::::In general, there are both aestetic and technical considerations. I know less than nothing about the state of this site's servers, but many wiki's simply hate having >1 image sigs. They create lots o lag. However, there is a workaround to this, namely, screenshotting your sig, and uploading its pictures, and making it your sig. This makes 1 image containing all the images you had(i do that on some wikis with policy). However, aestetic considerations are just as important. Tesh, for instance, has legally sized images(by most wiki standards), but far too many of them. I don't know of a policy that restricts invasive colors, but tesh's does push the limit on that. Also, one thing many wikis have a problem with is using their images to make a sig. The reason being, you end up accidentally clicking on say, tesh's polygon(w/e the hell pokémon that is), and suddenly, you havent found tesh, but instead found the image.[[User:Dark0805|<font color="Black">'''Dark0805'''</font>]] <small>([[User talk:Dark0805|''<font color="Pink">talk</font>'']]|[[Special:Contributions/Dark0805|''<font color="Blue">contribs</font>'']])</small> 19:20, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

::Figured out a great solution for a shorter code. Make your signature template, and then a template (Making both in the User namespace, mind you) containing the signature template, and then go to Preferences, adding in the code for the template that contains the signature template. (template template template template) For example, I added 'User:TinaTheKirlia/Signature' instead of the one that holds the code, 'User:TinaTheKirlia/Sig'. Much, MUCH shorter code. (And it auto-updates signatures. Wooooo.) [[User:Tina|Tina]] [[Special:Contributions/Tina|δ]][[User talk:Tina|♫]] 19:42, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

:::Ouch, that's generally a no-no. If you contribute to a lot of pages (you already do, I believe), you'll end up with your signature on lots of talk pages. Then, say you or, god forbid, someone else edits your signature template page? The Wiki now needs to update every page with a signature on it, and trust me, it doesn't take as much as you'd think to crash a server. :P
:::Generally, you can find some fairly short coding for a lot of things you might use. For example, Tesh's signature uses <nowiki><span style="color:#F05030;">'''TESH'''</span>, when you could also use <font color="#F05030>'''TESH'''</font></nowiki> and get the same result. Not a huge difference, but if you're using multiple colors in one signature, it adds up.
:::Another thing, on the subject of signature images: you can add <nowiki>|19x19px]]</nowiki> into the image link, and it'll resize. For example:
:::[[Image:Spr 3e 059.gif|70px]]
:::[[Image:Spr 3e 059.gif|19x19px]]
:::...and suddenly, it fits a lot better. Doesn't stretch out the page like crazy, so it's much easier to read. And doesn't stand out too much either.
:::And on the subject of outside links, that's really only an issue on bigger sites, I think. (Although Bulbapedia is one of the bigger Pokémon sites out there.) Basically, people could stick a link to their own website in their signature or something, and now, they've got links on every page of the wiki, practically. Not amazing by advertising standards, but it's still a free ride. Weather or not a Wiki allows or disallows outside links is really dependant on the Wiki itself though, it's not necessarily a bad thing on it's own. Hope that clears up a few things... -- [[user:Jioruji Derako|<font color="#237d00">'''J'''ioruji '''D'''erako.'''>'''</font>]] 22:03, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
::::Yeah, but the flip side to not substing the sig on every page is, if you change your sig, it changes everywhere. That way, it can always be recognised who posted, even if your sig takes on a radically different look. Plus, it also doesn't look like you're making a really good talk contribution. I often gauge the worth of reading a particular talk post by the number of bytes added (which can be seen on Recent Changes), and higher numbers generally mean longer posts. Except here. I've seen posts that add about 900 bytes to the page, and about 850 of them are the signature. It's ridiculous. Now [http://www.hrwiki.org/index.php/HRWiki:Signature here] are some good signature rules. They work excellently. I've been noticing all these terrible sigs for a long while, and I'm glad we're finally getting around to discussing setting some kind of standard to them. --[[User:DarkfireTaimatsu|DarkfireTaimatsu]] 06:43, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
:::::Just to note, Darfire, that's exactly why you shouldn't use a template. Because it changes everywhere. Meaning, I edit my signature template, boom, the server now has to update fifty, a hundred, maybe even more pages, all in one shot. That's a big drag on the server. And especially if I change a picture in my signature. Using the normal subst: system might have it's drawback, but it's not a big deal normally. If you're changing your signature that often, then it's really your own fault if you end up with inconsistent signatures across different pages.
:::::And even if you don't edit your signature template, other people can. Someone wants to vandalize the site? All they need to do is go to your signature template, and stick some massive coding in there. Having to do such a big update on so many pages at once will probably cause lag at the very least, if not crashing the entire server. -- [[user:Jioruji Derako|<font color="#237d00">'''J'''ioruji '''D'''erako.'''>'''</font>]] 11:20, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

:::::::Most vandals don't go checking user talk pages for helpful ways to vandalize. Trust me, most vandals ''would'' know about that stuff... remember the vandal a little while ago who was impersonating admins here? had one just like him on GuildWiki a week or so ago, taking advantage of the fact that lower-case "L" looks like upper-case "I" (lIllI, can you see the difference). And days later, a vandal tried the same trick on another wiki. Never underestimate vandals; they generally vandalize because they know all this stuff, it makes them feel "smart" when they can do so much damage like that.

:Not trying to boss you around here, Thery! Just suggesting some policies on signatures and whatnot. Time spent on a site shouldn't credit or discredit an idea. Dark's not trying to make you do anything here, he's only using your signature (among others) as an example of some signatures that might not be all that great for the site. Not a matter of who's better then who, but a matter of what's the better option for the website itself.
:But if you want to get technical, I've been a member here since March. :P So don't think I'm a new member either, I haven't edited as much as you have, probably, but not for lack of experience or anything of the sort. -- [[user:Jioruji Derako|<font color="#237d00">'''J'''ioruji '''D'''erako.'''>'''</font>]] 22:43, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

:Tbh, the newness of a user should never bar his opinions from being considered. But i totally understand where your'e coming from thery, and i can say confidently both me and jioruji have experience with puffed up 2-contribution users making noises about change. However, i beseech you to realize that while i am new to this site, i am not new to wikis/wiki bueracracy. And jioruji put it perfectly, i have nothing against you, or even your sig, i have somethign against the lack of policy.[[User:Dark0805|<font color="Black">'''Dark0805'''</font>]] <small>([[User talk:Dark0805|''<font color="Pink">talk</font>'']]|[[Special:Contributions/Dark0805|''<font color="Blue">contribs</font>'']])</small> 13:16, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

:This is the kind of stuff that makes you ''leave'' for mental health reasons, IMO. :P But I think it's mostly cleared up for now; I'm going to suggest a loose signature policy on the forums, and work things out from there. (by the way, hope your, um, mental health is feeling better. :D) -- [[user:Jioruji Derako|<font color="#237d00">'''J'''ioruji '''D'''erako.'''>'''</font>]] 23:22, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

:::As it is, there's currently no rule that says you can't do that... just generally, if someone's clicking your signature, they expect to be taken to your userpage, not to a totally different website. People shouldn't have to worry about where that signature's going to take them when they click it. (I've personally had to get into the habit of hovering over links and checking the status bar, so I know where I'm going.)
:::...can't you simply post a link on your own page as well? That way, you can give a bigger, better explanation of why the song is so awesome, and why people should click it. People clicking your signature are going to end up at your userpage, so they'll see the YouTube link when they get there... -- [[user:Jioruji Derako|<font color="#237d00">'''J'''ioruji '''D'''erako.'''>'''</font>]] 06:30, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
