Welcome

Welcome to Bulbapedia, Callyne4!

As a new user, you may wish to learn a few things that will be useful in your editing:

  • For a basic overview of wiki code, see this page.
  • The manual of style is very important. Make sure to read it. It outlines all official policies of Bulbapedia.
  • The word Pokémon is spelled with a capital P and an accented é. The P, of course, is accessed easily by holding Shift and pressing the P key, while the é can be accessed using Alt + 130 or Alt + 0233 on a Windows computer, and Option + e, then e again on a Mac. Otherwise, you can click it in the character palette below the editbox.
  • The word Poké Ball is spelled as two words. The "Poké" part is identical to the four beginning letters in "Pokémon"; "Ball" is spelled with a captial B (which is, again, accessed by holding Shift and pressing the B key). The spelling "Pokéball" arises frequently, but is incorrect.
  • The word "you" and all forms of it should not be used on encyclopedic pages unless it is a quote from Pokémon media. Bulbapedia is an encyclopedia, not a walkthrough.
  • On talk pages, please sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
  • The use of link templates is official policy. For an explanation on their use, see the page on shortlinks.
  • If you happen to spot a vandal in the recent changes that has not been dealt with, please see this page for how to deal with it.
  • A list of pages that are linked to, but have not been created, can be found at this page. A list of short articles that may require more information can be found here, while a list of articles that need improvement can be found here.
  • A list of the admins that you can contact in case of a problem, can be found here.

Thank you, and have a good time editing here! TESHIGIGAS 13:10, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Romanizations

We use the official copyrighted romanizations of the Japanese Pokémon names: for example, Krabby's Japanese name is クラブ, romanized if you were merely going syllable by syllable as Kurabu. It is, however, copyrighted as (and pretty obvious that it actually is meant to be) "Crab".

A similar example is Pikachu: ピカチュウ romanizes to Pikachyuu. Mewtwo: ミュウツー romanizes as Myuutsu. Just because it may end up pronounced in Japanese in that manner doesn't mean that it's actually meant as that. You know how American tourists are well known for going to other countries and messing up their languages, well, speakers of Japanese have a hard time with English words as well: it's because the languages are so evolutionarily distinct that it's really hard to switch between them.

...besides. Many people pronounce "Groudon" as "Ground-don". We don't put an n in there because of that.

...wow. Um. Didn't mean to rant or anything on your talk page. Think it'd be an idea for me to put this on the MOS? TTEchidnaFire echyGSDS! 18:03, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Gift Box DPt - Pikachu

So, as I understand it, Chimchar, Turtwig, Piplup and Pikachu are all holographic, but Pikachu is also non-holo. Now, the difference is, Chimchar, Turtwig and Piplup are listed with a quantity of one, but Pikachu is listed with a quantity of two. This is why I've slightly amended your edit on the Gift Box DPt page. Also, thanks for the images - always liked your site, the scans are really great quality. Just been informed of something. It seems site-stamped images aren't allowed on the Bulbagarden Archives, so do you have any versions of those scans that aren't site-stamped? Cipher (Talk) 17:31, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

collectorviper.com scans

Cheers.

For the record, the scans are from my own site, and I uploaded them myself. I am more than happy to share my scans of Japanese cards if there are none available in a higher quality elsewhere. On my own site, collectorviper.com, it is stated that the images are general fair use, so long as the watermark is kept in tact.- unsigned comment from Callyne4 (talkcontribs)

Please do not sign after you have been corrected with {{unsigned}}. The time will most likely be different, and people will get confused. As well, as per our Signature policy, you signature must reflect your username in some way. "Collectorviper.com" will not cut it.--freezingCOLD (page, talk) 23:22, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Please

Please sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~) so that everyone knows who put the comment there. Thanks!----freezingCOLD (page, talk) 23:16, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Talk Page Comments

Please don't erase talk page comments for no reason. Trust me, you do NOT want to end up like Big Johnno, who got into an edit war with a sysop over comments the former had erased and was trying to keep erased. That user ended up blocked and subsequently had every erased comment restored. ----freezingCOLD (page, talk) 23:18, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

re: edits

and please do not alter my message which I had cleaned up and signed. It'll grow tiresome if I have to keep adding my signature to that one comment over and over, cheers. collectorviper.com 23:22, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Will this work better then, since I'm clearly not allowed to just have my site listed as my signature? ^_^; Callyne4 of collectorviper.com 23:25, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

That works, yeah. Cipher (Talk) 23:27, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

The Preview Button

Instead of editing a page several times in a row, try using the preview button to make sure your edit looks the way you want it to. It's right next to the Save Page button. Please try it out, so as not to clog up the Recent Changes. Also, if you want to edit multiple sections of the page, make sure that you click "edit this page" at the top of the page rather than editing it by section.
