Welcome

Bulbapedia logo.png
Welcome to Bulbapedia, 444Zekrom!

Here are a few links to help you get started:

The Manual of Style, or MoS, outlines the format of all pages on Bulbapedia.

Our friendly team of staff are here to help! Talk to them if you have any questions or problems with Bulbapedia.

On talk pages, please sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~), or by using the "Your signature with a timestamp" (button_sig.png) button at the top of the edit window.

On Bulbapedia, the ability to edit personal userpages is a privilege. Per our userpage policy, this must be earned by first making constructive edits to the mainspace. Once you can, remember to keep userspace edits (edits to User:444Zekrom) to a minimum.

For a complete list of policies and editing advice, please see the Welcome Portal.
Thank you, and have a good time editing here!

...

...seriously, why did you link Bulbasaur as "the"? Bulbasaur. Link templates, mah boi. TTEchidna 08:10, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

Talk Page Comments

Removing talk page comments, including the initial welcome template, is prohibited per Bulbapedia's talk page policy. Please do not remove any comments in the future. If you wish to clean old comments away, you should archive your talk page instead. Thank you! --Psyライダー 05:22, 22 August 2010 (UTC)

Userspace limits

Hi. I noticed you have been editing the User: namespace a lot recently. Please don't do it any more, though. Bulbapedia's Userspace policy restricts the amount you can edit your userpage: no more than three edits per day. This policy was instated to prevent strain on our server, and also to promote people helping out in the mainspace. Bulbapedia is an encyclopedia, after all, so help us out by contributing to some articles before coming back to your personal userpage. The more often you edit in the mainspace, the more you will be allowed to edit your userpage. Thanks! --—darklordtrom 05:28, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

Welcoming users

Hi. If you want to welcome a new user just type {{subst:welcome}} which will put up the welcome template and even sign it for you. As you found out, if you copy and paste the coding then you'll get the wrong signature and the wrong timestamp. Thank you for your time and happy editing.--Beligaronia (talk) 06:56, 6 September 2010 (UTC)

ShiroReshiram?

It has come to our attention that you and ShiroReshiram appear to be using the same computer. So, what is your relation to ShiroReshiram, and why do you two appear to be using the same computer? - Kogoro | Talk to me - 07:33, 6 September 2010 (UTC)

I don't know who is he/she.--444Zekrom 08:07, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

MD2 walkthrough

For the Mystery Dungeon 2 walkthrough, please use words like you and your instead of the player. A walkthrough is really only directed at "you". Turtwig's A-B-Cs (talk | contribs) 11:57, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

Userspace limits

While things in your sandbox are more lenient against the userspace limits, please try to keep editing to a minimum and use the preview button. Userpage tags aren't for the mainspace or helping anyone really, so just try to keep the editing low. Thanks. Jellotalk 15:21, 8 October 2010 (UTC)

Ahhh... Sorry.--444Zekrom 15:22, 8 October 2010 (UTC)
Sorry to bug you again, but the usertag policy states that atleast 5 users need to be using the the tag before it's allowed in the main template space. Jellotalk 15:29, 8 October 2010 (UTC)
Ohh... eheheh... I guess I missed that. Then... ahhh... just rip it off then. Thanks for telling me. And need not worry, I'm not working on anymore tags.--444Zekrom 15:35, 8 October 2010 (UTC)

Userspace & Signatures

The userspace policy says no more than three userspace edits per day, not to mention that the site message states "edit userpages as little as possible". Over 10 edits to your sandbox, for personal content... Sorry, dude, but your userspace privileges have been revoked. We may return them to you after the server conditions are back to normal, as long as you make constructive mainspace edits through that period. Thanks, - Kogoro | Talk to me - 14:08, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

Aahh... sorry.--444Zekrom 14:09, 9 October 2010 (UTC)
You know, actually, thanks. You've successfully made me find another thing to do than mess around in my sandbox.--444Zekrom 14:12, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

Dream World Article

Sorry, I was only asking.--Black Yin Zekrom 21:24, 10 October 2010 (UTC)

Please do not link to pages about fake Pokémon

Sorry to break your bubble, but please do not link to pages about fake Pokémon like Regicrystal. This is a warning and you may get blocked by doing so. Thank for your time. MaverickNate 05:00, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the warning, ha.--444Zekrom 14:06, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

Templates

Like the one you just made in the Template namespace should have been made in your userspace FIRST. After that you should have asked an admin for approval. We can't have useless templates up like that. I hope you understand. Thanks. Jellotalk 20:36, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

Chill the hell out

  • 1. It's a Japanese game. I see no reason why would they derive the name from Chinese.
  • 2. A Japanese man will pronounce the word 集合 as "shuugou", not "jihe".
  • 3. You speak Chinese, so you should know that "j" is just a foolish spelling of PinYin romanization. It's pronounced with a "ch" sound, not "j" sound.
  • 4. What the hell does Jihead have to do with gathering?

Hope you understood. --Maxim 10:12, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

  • 1. I know. But it's a historical thing. Kanji are now a part of Japanese language.
  • 2. But it no longer is. In Japanese Kanji are read only in on- and kun-reading nowadays. Chinese doesn't play any role in Japanese language anymore. Also, no other Pokémon name was derived from Chinese, unless the Pokémon itself was based on some Chinese thing. This doesn't apply to Jihead. Dragons are everywhere. Chinese is no longer the most influential language in the East. New Chinese-derived words in Japanese is a rarity.
  • 3. Great argument... I happen to know Chinese phonology system and I happen to know that Mandarin Chinese doesn't have voiced consonants at all. It only has unvoiced and aspirated ones. "J" is unvoiced counterpart of aspirated "Q". Neither are pronounced as in English. You know Chinese, so you should know NOT TO ASSOCIATE PinYin spelling with the pronounciation.
  • 4. That's the most farfetched thing I've ever heard.
  • 5. What the hell? I DID sign my message. I always do. --Maxim 10:31, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

Page has been protected because of counter-productive editing. Talk this out instead of reverting it out. —darklordtrom 10:41, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

Thanks trom.--444Zekrom 10:42, 31 October 2010 (UTC)
  • 1. It no longer does. Most Chinese loanwords in Japanese now sound nothing like Chinese. The languages evolve. Japanese has evolved greatly since Middle Ages and so did Chinese. While it's true that on-yomi reading of Kanji evolved from Chinese, they really drifted apart from each other by those years. Also, modern Chinese no longer sounds like Middle Chinese (especially Mandarin, which is one of the most peculiarly evolved dialects. Cantonese or Min-Nan are way more conservative).
  • 2. Keep in mind that Game Freak are game creators, not linguists. They don't care about such things as ages-long evolution of a Chinese word to Japanese. Nowadays "Shuugou" and "Jihe" sound nothing alike. Game Freak aren't etymology specialist.
  • 3. What dialect do you speak? Certainly not Mandarin. Mandarin doesn't possess voiced consonants, like English "j".
  • 4. Really, if GF really wanted to name their Pokemon after gathering, why would they choose the Chinese word? Pokemon names in Japan are mostly derived from Japanese and English. Using a Chinese word sounds really unlikely for them. Also, I still don't understand what makes you thing that Jihead's name would be derived from gathering. Okay, his heads "gathered" into two. But it's still very farfetched and over-complex. GF doesn't choose such far-fetched origins for the Pokemon names.
  • 5. You have a bad sense of humor.
  • 6. I happen to be a linguist.
  • 7. Good that the page is protected. Also, thanks for an edit conflict. --Maxim 10:52, 31 October 2010 (UTC)
Why not? How much does one cost? (so, I've convinced you, haven't I? That's very good.) --Maxim 11:05, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

OMG!

Just curios about it, why did you warn MAGNADETH? Do you know he's our Admin + E.B member? Any particular reason regarding the userspace limit warning? ♫♪AdyNiz♪♫ 14:58, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

Just because they're admins doesn't mean they can get away with breaking the rules wait yes they can no they cant yes they can shut up--Cold (talk) 15:44, 31 October 2010 (UTC)
What did Magnadeth do? I check his page's history and there were no such recent edits then on what basis you warned him? And Cold, he is an Editorial member and I don't think he'll break a rule. Anyway, Zekrom can you explain your reason please? ♫♪AdyNiz♪♫ 16:52, 31 October 2010 (UTC)
He hasn't edited his userpage since September, so I don't know why you gave him that warning. Also, next time you do actually warn someone going over the 3 limit per day, use {{subst:Userspace warning}}. Thanks. Jellotalk 17:09, 31 October 2010 (UTC)
Actually, I don't think 444 was warning Mags, I think he was telling Mags to warn TTE, since TTE's talk page is protected--Cold (talk) 17:16, 31 October 2010 (UTC)
Oh, I see now. But TTE was editing something that would eventually be mainspaced and it wasn't for his own personal needs. The rules are more lenient on that. Jellotalk 17:25, 31 October 2010 (UTC)
FYI the Editorial Board is allowed unlimited use of the userspace for testing purposes; for personal edits we are limited as are the rest of you. —darklordtrom 20:40, 31 October 2010 (UTC)
