Hi!

Welcome to my user page. Currently my presence here at Bulbagarden is very limited due to me perusing a post secondary education.

Me and Bulbagarden

I am 32 years old from Ontario, Canada. In 2008, I had decided to register here at Bulbagarden as to help out mainly on anime related things here on Bulbapedia. For the past 15 years of being a casual user here at Bulbagarden (mainly on Bulbapedia), I like to contribute (when I find the time) as well as if I happen to notice an error in facts or details, I will attempt to fix them. I generally try to stay out of the way of edit wars and if a disagreement arises between me and member(s) of the community, I will simply leave it up to the consensus of opinion to make the decision. I love to contribute to bulbapedia! I have been a member since November 10, 2008.

Me and Pokémon

I have watched the anime since its Canadian debut, back when I was was only six years old and in my second year of school. I became an instant Pokémon fan back in 1998 when YTV aired the very first episode. Looking back, I now feel a little privileged to have experienced the North American introduction of the Pokémon franchise at the same time as being a kid. Being a kid made it that much more exciting! Being able to see the first episode at its debut, seeing the first movie in a packed movie theater, getting the first ever Pokémon game, going to the store to get 50¢ individual Pokémon cards from a machine(do they still do that?). Thinking about it all brings back the nostalgia of my early childhood. Since those times, I have still have respect for Pokémon, and still show an interest for the anime despite my growing age.

It still feels like it happened yesterday. My first exposure to the big Pokémon craze started with the hype and the advertising of a revolutionary new TV show with Brock, Misty and Ash. Being a young shy kid at the time (finished kindergarten and about enter grade school), I had little to no friends at the time which led me to watching too much TV. Regardless of that fact, the advertisements had really caught my attention. I couldn’t wait for the TV show to debut despite the fact that school was just around the corner. I still remember begging my mother to turn it onto YTV so I could watch the show. She finally gave in and I was able to watch it. On April 14, 1999 (my birthday), I received my first Game Boy along with Pokémon Red. At first I didn't like the game as it was all about strategy, but after a while I got hooked on it. Later in that same year, I asked my father to go see Mewtwo Strikes Back and we did near Christmas with my cousins. Only after the first movie did I ever notice that the Pokémon craze had begun dying out, but it was still very much there and still present with the loyal fans in my school. I could see it start to happen in my second grade class. Some kids started to dislike the Pokémon anime when Pokémon: The Adventures in the Orange Islands came around. Out of some of the conversations I remember, most complaints were about how they didn't like the new opening and that Brock was gone. I too did not like that changes but still watched the anime to see when Ash’s progress.

At around this time, I had given up on my Pokémon Red game as I had mainly only used Charizard and the rest of my party was weak. Despite this fact, I had asked for Pokémon Stadium for my next birthday in order to play Pokémon in 3D. I was hooked for a little while and then lost interest in that game. The next year YTV had aired Pokémon: The Johto Journeys and my likings for the Pokémon anime had fully come back as it had a catchy new opening and more importantly, Brock came back! This subsequently restarted my interests with the RPG Pokémon series, so I had asked for Pokémon Silver for my birthday of 2001 to see all the new Pokémon on the game. I played all the way through and actually beaten the Pokémon league for both Kanto and Johto. The Christmas of 2001, I had received Pokémon Puzzle League and couldn't stop playing that game. Up to now I still play that game since it was heavily based on the anime. Unfortunately after the 4th season of the Pokémon anime, I lost interest in Pokémon altogether. I stopped playing my games and if the anime just happened to be on the TV, I'd watch it just because there was nothing better on TV at the time.

Shifting the time frame over to 2007, my younger brother came up to me and said the voices of the Pokémon anime are completely different. I though he was just joking with me, but I casually walked to the TV expecting the same old junk, but it hit me like a brick wall. The anime had changed completely from what I had grown up with since my early childhood. This is where I first met Bulbapedia. It was here on Bulbapedia that I learned what had happened. My interest for the anime portion of the franchise had somewhat came back, but to only see how well the anime would be after the changes in voices and new background score music. Then the Diamond & Pearl series came around on YTV and ever since the series premiere, I have gained an interest in the Pokémon anime again.

My Pokémon related works outside of Bulbapedia

I make renditions of the Pokemon anime music with my spare time (usually Saturdays). Here is just a taste of what I have done:
