Let's examine the past for a moment, shall we? Let's go back and look at Ash's party over the course of all of the regions. Each time it is changed, I will note the episode number.

Kanto

EP001

Ash starts with Pikachu. Oak gives him a Pokédex and five Poké Balls with which to capture Pokémon.

Ash captures a Caterpie. This is why Ash's Seaking is notable: Ash caught it.

Ash is an idiot! He sends Caterpie into battle against a Pidgeotto! True genius. Glad he's matured since then... for real. He calls Caterpie back because Misty tells him he's an idiot, sends out Pikachu, and then captures Pidgeotto!

Looks like SOMEONE wasn't paying attention... So now, Ash has 7 Pokémon, with a Pokédex listing of 9. And he's already going for his third badge.

BUT WAIT. FRLG and E have just come out! You know what that means! FILLER SEASON!

And so, Brock and Ash leave May and Max in Hoenn and it's time for them to go...

Back to Kanto

AG133

Ash starts off again from Pallet Town, now going to see all the stuff he didn't see the first time he went through Kanto (in 80 episodes!), and to take the Battle Frontier challenge. And to start off, he dumps his crybaby at Oak's for a Johto Pokémon that didn't get much screentime...

And it's not Cyndaquil. DAMMIT.

Plus he dumps his iceball.

Next up?

Yay Sinnoh League. Yay not really exciting. Yay Ash beats Paul and gets to face a cheater with a fricking DARKRAI. You can't enter it in the Battle Tower. That's not legit. No legendaries. It's bull. And we're of course not going back to Johto, even though glorious-ass Kanto got a return trip in AG.

And of course, this means Totodile got screwed over. THANKS, WRITERS, FOR GIVING US FIFTY FUCKING FILLERS BETWEEN CANDICE AND VOLKNER. Now we'll never resolve Ash's journey at the Bell Tower, never see that fucker Petrel, never get rid of Team Rocket, FOR GOD'S SAKE. They're planning on DUMPING BROCK at last in BW, but TEAM ROCKET IS STILL AROUND? Goddamn! Give Plasma some actual plot, unlike the past four generations where you completely fucked up on any trace of coolness Rocket, Magma, Aqua, and Galactic had! I know, I know, kids' show. Advertising the games is the #1 point. But MY GOD, we got our Kanto and Johto remakes. We're not going back. Leave them to the past. Move forward to Isshu. We're starting over. I'm ready for it. No more Zubat, instead we have Koromori. No Drowzee, instead we have Munna. I'm cool with it. Cyndi Quil returned to my side for one last hurrah, but now I'm ready for my firepiggy, and I'm not looking back at Generation I, II, III, or IV, and wishing for the good old days in Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, or Sinnoh.

Sigh. Well. Better get to work on the teams for Dent and Iris.
