Trivia

  • Shibishirasu and its evolutionary relatives are the only Pokémon to have no weaknesses that are not Ghost/Dark. However, this is due to their ability, Levitate, which eliminates their sole weakness to the Ground type.
    • This, by extension, means they are the only Pokémon with no weaknesses that is a single type, and cannot be invincible if given Wonder Guard.
    • Also, they are the only Pokémon to have no weaknesses that have evolutionary relatives.
  • Despite being based on marine animals, Shibishirasu and its evolutionary relatives are not Water-type, nor can they learn any Water-type moves other than Rain Dance.
  • Because it can only learn Normal and Electric-type moves, the only way Shibishirasu can damage Gobitto or Goruugu is through Struggle.
  • It is the only Generation V Pokémon incapable of learning TMs.
    • This means that despite learning Thunder Wave and Charge Beam by level, Shibishirasu is incompatible with both TMs that teach the moves.

Origin

Shibishirasu and its evolutionary relatives may be based on electric eels, lampreys, jawless fish and possibly leeches or lancelets. The fact that it is Electric-type may be an allusion to bioluminescence. It also resembles leptocephalus, larval stage of the eel.

Name origin

Its name is likely a combination of 痺れ shibire, numbness, and シラス shirasu, young of sardines.
