Diamond & Pearl
Wig is first seen when Platinum lets him out of his Poké Ball, gives him a Pokédex for her bodyguards (who will arrive wearing red and green mufflers), and instructs him to give it to whichever one he likes. Matching the description, Wig chooses Diamond as its Trainer and gives him the Pokédex. Right after that, a flock of Starly appear and begin attacking the group, which results in the three starters fighting and defeating them after almost half an hour, much to Platinum's surprise (though she still mistakes the two for her bodyguards anyway). Though it didn't actually participate in any gym battles or major fights except the one it lost against the Torahiko, then a wild Luxio, it proved as a valuable training partner for Piplup due to its type advantage, and with the training it underwent, and the manzai comedy routine Diamond and Pearl gave to drop Platinum a hint, Piplup was able to win against Roark's Cranidos.

Tru first appeared in Stagestruck Starly, as one of the three Pokémon given to Platinum from Professor Rowan. Platinum sends him out of his Poké Ball alongside Chimler and gives him a Pokédex for her bodyguards (who will arrive wearing red and green mufflers), and instructs him to give it to whichever one he likes. Matching the description, Tru chooses Diamond as his Trainer and gives him the Pokédex. Right after that, a flock of Starly appear and begin attacking the group, which results in the three starters fighting and defeating them.

A while later, Platinum and the two boys then stumbled upon an apparition-like Rotom in the Old Chateau, where Diamond, Wig, and Lax managed to corner it. Afterwards, they meet a strange woman who, with her sharp senses, knew they stumbled across ghost Pokémon, humorously baffling when she discovers that they were in the deserted building (as she was too afraid to do so herself), and somewhat nudges them into challenging her the next day. So, when Wig and the other starters are training in Eterna City afterward for Platinum's Gym Battle with Gardenia, Cynthia walks past them and notices that the three Pokémon are about to evolve, with Wig becoming a Grotle. As the "undiscovered" League Champion coaches Platinum for her next gym battle, Wig's trainer accidentally sneezes on it, and sends the newly-evolved Prinplup's water attack flying straight toward the Galactic Eterna Building, which the adept trainer is able to trap into a psychic ball that contains the same technique and power to use later with her Spiritomb, something which she demonstrates with Wig's Razor Leaf. She really would have to put these moves to good use soon after they part, though, when a group of Galactic Grunts attack Rad Rickshaw and hold him hostage, and she frees him. Mistaking his savior for the trio due to the bits of rice all over the Razor Leaves at the time, he gives the three of them brand-new Bicycles to use, which the trio then have trouble coping with due to Platinum's inability to handle her bike.
In Ring Around the Roserade I, after leaving the Old Chateau the group meets Gardenia, who somewhat nudges them into challenging her the next day. The three soon begin training with the starter Pokémon when Cynthia walks by and notices that the three are going to evolve. Quickly after saying this the three evolve, with Tru evolving into a Grotle.

After Platinum wins the badge and they leave Eterna City, Cyrus attacks the trio with a powerful Rock Slide for being "noisy" around the site of his Nosepass and Magneton's evolutions, and the Luxio they met before allows Diamond to spot his friends in the rubble after he was the only one not buried, so Wig Tackles the rocks away free them and make a path to the Sinnoh region's East side.
In Passing by Probopass and Maneuvering around Magnezone, the group enter Mt. Coronet and encounter the leader of Team Galactic, Cyrus. He has his Probopass attack them with a powerful Rock Slide for being "noisy" around the site of his Nosepass and Magneton's evolutions, and Pearl and Platinum become trapped under the rubble. The Luxio they met before shows up and uses his X-Ray vision to find the two that were buried, and has Tru and Lax use Tackle to help break the two out.

After a while of not seeing much action (as he wasn't used in the gym battle with Maylene, Diamond and Pearl meet Paka and Uji, Platinum's real, deserted bodyguards, and while fighting an army of Galactic Grunts and gaining experience, evolves into a Torterra along with Chimhiko (now an Infernape) at Veilstone City. Once the two are irrevocably trapped in what seems to be the Distortion World with their last words being a request for the two to guard their hirer, Wig's fully evolved form is put to good use fighting in the Seven Stars Restaurant, and later in Valor Lakefront battling some Galactic-hired Super Nerds though it fails to win in the latter due to falling asleep. However, in what is seemingly his biggest moment of glory, Wig manages to defeat Crasher Wake's Quagsire with a Giga Drain when he was borrowed by Platinum as she failed to acquire any new Grass Pokémon. Again after going a while of not seeing many opportunities to battle, Diamond is taken to Iron Island to train with Riley to guard Mesprit, where it learned to overcome its weakness in speed after much training against wild Pokémon and thugs alike through firing a single Razor Leaf with speed amplified manyfold, while perfecting its accuracy so that it wouldn't miss. It then uses this move, which the boy names "Razor Leaf Dia Special Mach One and Only," to destroy a secret hovering camera set by the Galactics, from which Riley is able to sense an aura of evil, as the same grunt tricked Platinum's father into believing that his daughter had been kidnapped.
In Stunning Staravia & Stinky Skuntank II, Tru is used in the fight against the Galactic Grunts in order to stop them from capturing Platinum. He starts by using Razor Leaf to block his opponents view and attack at the same time, impressing Paka and Uji. With their advice Tru uses Stealth Rock to assist Chimler by making a platform for him to reach the middle of the battle. Chimler then uses a spinning Ember, defeating the group of Staravia. The two then evolve into Torterra and Infernape and the group flees to the top of a building with a satellite dish on top of it. With Paka and Uji's guidance Chimler attacks wildly with Ember and Tru attacks with Earthquake, causing the satellite dish to fall on top of the Grunts. Pearl then realizes that Chimler's random attacks forced the Grunts into the spot behind the satellite and weakened it at the same time. With Tru's Earthquake knocking it down the Grunts had nowhere to run, trapping them.

History

Diamond & Pearl arc

As a Turtwig

Tru first appeared in Stagestruck Starly, as one of the three Pokémon given to Platinum from Professor Rowan. Platinum sends him out of his Poké Ball alongside Chimler and gives him a Pokédex for her bodyguards (who will arrive wearing red and green mufflers), and instructs him to give it to whichever one he likes. Matching the description, Tru chooses Diamond as his Trainer and gives him the Pokédex. Right after that, a flock of Starly appear and begin attacking the group, which results in the three starters fighting and defeating them.

In Bombastic Bibarel & Heroic Hippopotas, Tru is used in a double battle alongside Chimler at the Seven Stars Restaurant, fighting against a Trainer's Bibarel and Hippopotas. Bibarel attacks Chimler with Water Gun and Hippopotas attacks Tru with Sand Tomb. The two counter with Fury Swipes and Wood Hammer, knocking out both Pokémon.

In Dramatic Drapion & Crafty Kricketune II, Tru is used to battle two Scientists that were attacking Diamond and Platinum. With his high defense he easily takes the Scientist's Kricketune's attack, but soon falls asleep from its Sing.

As a Grotle

In Floatzel and Jetsam, Tru is used in Platinum's Gym battle against Crasher Wake and his Quagsire. The two start by charging each other and begin a wrestling match. After a while Quagsire used its superior strength to pick up Tru and throw him into the water, which also knocked Platinum in as well. In a few moments neither of them surface and Wake assumes they drowned and calls the battle off. Platinum calls out from the other side of the arena, revealing that they slipped by him when underwater. Tru then attacks with Giga Drain, knocking Quagsire out.

In Lucky Lucario I, Tru is trained on Iron Island by Riley alongside Lax and Don. The three start by battling against Riley's Lucario and are quickly defeated due to Lucario's speed. Despite the loss Riley points out that the three have amazing defense and work wonderful together. After this Riley took the group into a cave and they are attacked by a wild Steelix. Lax and Don manage to hold it down long enough for Tru to attack with Crunch, making the Steelix flee. After the training Tru learned to overcome his weakness in speed and learned a technique called "Dia-Mach-One-and-Only Razor Leaf" which allows him to fire a single Razor Leaf at a high speed.

In Chancing Upon Chingling, once Diamond was spotted by the Advanced level Grunt, Tru was used with Diamond's other Pokémon to battle against him but proved to be no match for his strength. In Double Trouble with Dialga and Palkia VI, Tru was used alongside the other Pokémon to battle against the Legendary Pokémon Dialga and Palkia. With the help of Diamond and Pearl's Pokémon and with a combined technique, they were all able to destroy the Red Chains controlling them.

Platinum arc

In Unplugging Rotom (Heat, Wash, Mow, Fan, Frost), Tru battled against a wild Rotom that Diamond and Pearl were trying to protect. Diamond sent out Tru to battle against it due to it having a type advantage over Rotom's Wash Form, but Rotom continued to switch and attacked with Overheat, Air Slash, and Blizzard, rendering Tru's attacks useless.

Personality and characteristics

Like his Trainer, Tru is a very relaxed and carefree Pokémon, and adjusts well to difficult situations, similar to how he can take great amounts of damage due to his high defense. He is caring and kind, always willing to help out. He is very brave as well and does not back down from a challenge.
