Tranquill (Japanese: ハトーボー Hatoboh) is a Normal/Flying Pokémon introduced in Generation V.

It evolves from Pidove starting at level 21, and evolves into Unfezant starting at level 32.

Biology

Physiology

Tranquill is a bird-like Pokémon that is light gray, gray, and black in color; interestingly enough, the majority of its coloring is the inverse of its prevolution's coloring. Its beak and eye color is yellow and the pink cere from its prevolution has brightened into a hot pink, enlarged and became a marking above the eyes. It has a black, crest-like arrangement of two feathers on its head and has also gained a petal-like arrangement of feathers on the back of its neck. It possesses a long rectrice feather that is tipped in black.

Gender differences

None.

Special abilities

No matter how far a Tranquill travels, it is always able to return to its Trainer.

Trivia

Origin

Judging from both its Black and White Pokédex entries, Tranquill may be based on a dove, often used as a symbol of peace, and possibly a homing pigeon, a domestic pigeon bred to find its way home over extremely long distances. Its design is similar to that of the Greater Roadrunner.

Name origin

Tranquill is based off of "tranquil," meaning calm or unstressed. It also incorporates the name quail.

Hatooboo's name may be derived from 鳩 hato, meaning dove, and 逃亡 tōbō, meaning escape or 尨 'bō' meaning shaggy hair.
