Any way to do this?

Since this is a talk page, I'm wondering if it's possible to eliminate the regional Pokédex entries from the template if there's no data for them, instead of having that dash. It'd make it a lot easier to see at a glance which regions the Pokémon's naturally available in, or what generation it is. Might be a bit problematic if we take into account Pokémon in the Hoenn dex beyond 202, though. Feedback? Tom Temprotran 02:39, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

I can't say I particularly like this change to the numbers section. It does not cope well with the case where a Pokémon is not in the regional Pokédex. Also, it's a blatant copy of what Wikipedia does for their infobox. - 振霖T 22:58, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

I'm not fond of it either. It's not particularly useful and it doesn't fit the rest of the template very well, I think. --Pie 23:09, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
Since we are agreed, then I will change it back. - 振霖T 05:32, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
All right. Though... I never changed it in the first place, because I know I'd've screwed something up. I was just wondering if it was possible. Tom Temprotran 01:17, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
No, we weren't talking about your proposal, which is reasonable, if difficult. - 振霖T 08:37, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
Ah, okay. Sorry 'bout that, then. Tom Temprotran 07:33, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

Habitat?

Should the habitat (based on the FRLG dexlist thing) be included in the infobox? It'd of course be N/A for Gen IV and beyond Pokémon, unless that's still in the data like the color is...

The only problem is that we'd have to go though the first 386 to include it. Should we? --TTEchidna 18:42, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

The MS sprites.

Should they even be in the infobox? TTEchidna 21:41, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

Yes, but not until someone finds a good-looking way to include them. And we should add the animated Emerald sprites for Pokémon from Generations I-III. --Shiny NoctowlTalk | Contribs480MS.png 21:42, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

Name Pronunciations?

Should we add a section on how to pronounce the Pokémon's name to the Infobox? I for one have trouble correctly pronouncing a name correctly if I read it but don't hear or see it pronounced correctly, so I think that it would be a feature that would be a good addition to the Pokémon pages. I know that it might take a lot of work to find and input all of the pronunciations, but I think that it would be worth it. Goldenpoke111 16:46, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

I tried to help put them in but it wouldn't work,what's wrong?Ultamatecharizard 19:23, 8 November 2008 (UTC)

Type categories

So, does anyone know why all Pokémon stopped being categorized by type? I'm guessing it's here somewhere... --ElectAbuzzzz 09:40, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

Base Happiness

Should there be a section on the base happiness of a Pokemon? TehPerson 05:55, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

I think there should be. It's a shame that there wasn't any discussion on this. TorchicBlaziken (talkedits) 21:59, 16 April 2013 (UTC)

Links

The pages for all the regional Pokédexes have been moved from "List of Pokémon by X Dex number" to "List of Pokémon by X Pokédex number". It's be nice if someone could update the links in the infobox to reflect that. --((Marton imos)) 22:22, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

Ability

Should we talk about when it was introduced for the Pokemon in which generation? Or should we put that in the article itself? ht14 01:20, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

probably. when TTE becomes available, ill talk to him about it. -- MAGNEDETH 20:19, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

Pron

Can't you just add the sc to the template? *tc26* 14:31, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

Basic Japanese romanization

Is it possible to add the Japanese pronunciation of the Pokémon's name? Such as showing that Lucario's name would be pronounced Rukario. I was hoping that maybe this could help stop weeaboos who think Pikachu's Japanese name is Pikachuu or thinking Blacky's name is Burakki. *shivers* I know we already have a page for this, but I think it might be helpful to have it on the Pokémon's page as well. --ケンジガール 05:13, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

Lucario's pretty much pronounced the same, it's just that the "Lu" is pronounced in the same manner that the "ruuuuuu!" of "Ran Ran Ruu!" is pronounced... which is kind of a "say L while you're saying R". TTEchidna 00:08, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

Why?

Why was the pronounciation field removed? Chocolate((Talk to Me|Look at My Contributions)) 22:49, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

I think it'd be better to, possibly soon, implement sound files that play 1: the cry from the games, 2: the anime cry (Japanese and English), and 3: PBR pronunciation ripped from the game, or just ask Ken Gates himself to record the pronunciation... TTEchidna 00:04, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

Changing how the wiki looks

I think the wikicode for the infobox should be changed to this. It makes it a lot easier for people who are new to the wiki to correct any mistakes. Is there a quick way to change all the articles at once? (Take a better look by clicking here)

Um, well, it is pretty much like that. And they have all been converted to that now. If you're confused about the mass of code on the template page, that's because of the ridiculous amount of variables for color, type, etc. Nothing to worry about. — THE TROM — 10:09, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
Click edit, to see what i mean. It doesn't show that well otherwise. - plau 10:20, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
In an article, or here? Don't worry about here, but in an article just scroll down past that until you see paragraphs. Even better, click on the section edit links to edit a small part of the article, not the whole thing at once, unless you're changing something in multiple places. — THE TROM — 10:21, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
In an article, I meant it would be easier for people to edit information in the infobox. - plau 16:18, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
all the information is currently properly situated and doesnt need to be edited. and if it does, it really isnt that hard to edit anyway. -- MAGNEDETH 17:45, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
As for a quick way to edit them all at once? Ahahahahaha, don't count on it. We were lucky to change them all to upgrade the template so quickly. TTEchidna 04:13, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

"pron"

When I edit a (Pokémon) page, I see a part in the infobox called "pron", which is apparently how to pronounce the name. I don't see it on the infobox when I'm not editing the page, so what's the use of it? CuboneKing (Planet CuboneBone Club) 20:41, 19 December 2009

its there for pronunciations. we initially started to add them for some Pokemon, and they were directly from a Pokemon handbook, but a number of the pronunciations were contested by fans (including myself) for being anywhere from a little off, to outright wrong. so we have removed them and not included them. at some point we would like to include them, but for now, they will not be used. -- MAGNEDETH 21:10, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

Raticate's catch rate

Raticate's catch rate changed from 90 to 127 between Gen II and Gen III. But I see no way to note this in the infobox. Is there one, if not can we make one? --sp unit 262 02:28, 3 March 2010 (UTC)

Question

HG/SS or HeartGold and SoulSilver? FR/LG or FireRed and LeafGreen? R/S or Ruby and Sapphire? We've simplified it in the past, and now we're expanding it? Why? ht14 22:29, 28 April 2010 (UTC)

Weight box overflow and egg cycles error

Okay, two things I noticed that are wrong with the template:

  • 1: If the Pokémon's weight is too long, the weight box protrudes from the side of the table. The best way to fix this is to change the table width from 30% to 36%. I tested it and 36% is the minimum width required to accommodate a five-digit weight for both pounds and kilograms using all 8's (the widest digit).
  • 2: Pokémon in the No Eggs group have a note next to their egg cycle number that says they are not obtainable from an egg. It should say that they cannot PRODUCE eggs, since baby Pokémon belong to the No Eggs group, but they CAN be obtained as an egg.--A Tell-Tale Heart 06:23, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
What screen resolution do you use? It's worth noting that, since we use width percentages and not pixel values, users with larger or smaller screens will see more or less space in some of the boxes.
In this particular case, most width values are designed for about a 768x1024 screen size, since that's roughly the standard size (only very small screens, or very old computers, still use the 600x800 size).
Assuming it still overflows at a standard sizing, someone can work on a fix for it. If it's overflowing at a smaller size, most likely it'll just need a slight adjustment so that the overflow is still readable (not much point in designing the template around a size that's already cramped). -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 16:17, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Base stats?

They're quite an important feature of Pokémon, so I don't see why it's not included in this template, in favour of EV yield. I personally don't really want to have to scroll down half the page to view those base stats. (The ranges don't have to appear in the infobox, just the base stats themselves.) Ztobor 03:04, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

Artwork

Has anyone else noticed that the FRLG art now shows the art from Red/Green? Dragoness 00:02, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

Yes. It is because it is Red and Blue's birthday today. This has been asked on like 5 different pages. Blake Talk·Edits 00:10, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
Fair enough... Has anyone ever considered making these into announcements or news articles or maybe adding a section to the main page going, "Happy Birthday Red/Blue!"? Just a thought. Dragoness 00:45, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

Signature Move?

User:SpecialK/PokémonInfoTemplateEdit

I put in a Signature Move Section, but I'm not sure how to make it work. I'l leave the link here and ask if someone would make the edits needed and put it on the Page for me. Thanks ~ SpecialK Leiks Lucario and the Celebi Glitch 12:42, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

I don't think we need a signature move section in the infobox. --SnorlaxMonster 02:09, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

Broken link

For Legendary Pokémon.com's Gex III dex (under external links). The template links to it as http://www.legendarypokemon.net/rs/pokedex/093, where the actual entry is located at http://www.legendarypokemon.net/rs/pokedex/haunter. This is for all Pokémon. たかはり 06:19, 9 November 2010 (UTC)

New Exp. gain formula

Now that BW is out and we actually know the formula, the infobox formula should probably be updated accordingly. Specifically, change this section:

{{#iferror: {{#expr: {{{expyield|0}}} - 1}}|Unknown|{{#expr: floor({{{expyield|0}}} * 50 / 7)}}{{tt|*|Based on battling a wild level 50 {{{name|{{{tmname|Missingno.}}}}}}}}}}
to this:
{{#iferror: {{#expr: {{{expyield|0}}} - 1}}|Unknown|{{#expr: floor({{{expyield|0}}} * 50 / 5) + 1}}{{tt|*|Based on battling a wild level 50 {{{name|{{{tmname|Missingno.}}}}}} with a level 50 Pokémon}}}}

Also, MediaWiki's space wrapping sucks. Ztobor 00:56, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

Designer

Could we add a section for the designer (If known)? Look-a-troopa 17:54, 31 August 2011 (UTC)

This is something that I really think we should work on. Thing is, we only know something like 7 of the before Gen V mon's. MaverickNate 18:14, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
But it isn't even mentioned on the pages of Pokémon with known designers. Look-a-troopa 10:43, 1 September 2011 (UTC)
It could probably just go in the trivia. If we ever get a complete list of designers for a whole region of Pokémon or something, then maybe it could be added. For now, see User:Maverick Nate/Designers. --SnorlaxMonster 11:09, 1 September 2011 (UTC)

Another idea

Is there any way to set it up so you can direct link (dl) the body picture to the section in List of Pokémon by body style. This might mean changing the names of pics etc but it is something as a reader I have found annoying and a coder something impossible to input due to the nature of the template. I am willing to re-code 649 pages if you do change the section... Epsilonexus 16:28, 6 November 2011 (UTC)

It can be done with the current image names. Tip: to use an image as a link, put [[File:001MS.png|link=Special:Random]] which gives, 001MS.png Obviously replacing this image and link with the ones you want. Werdnae (talk) 23:50, 6 November 2011 (UTC)
Thanks Werdnae, I described that awfully and wasn't quite what I meant. Can you put a direct link into the infobox for the body styles to the appropriate place eg. the bipedal tailed image image to the Bipedal tailed section of List of Pokémon by body style like this, on the actual picture? I can link images but it's the template which is the problem because I can't actually edit the code on each page because it is all referenced and locked away over here. Seriously, why point out numbers in the Hoenn dex that are not shown? I mean, without trying to offend anyone, I really think it's stupid to consider saying that Bulbasaur is number #203 (not shown). Obviously there was never the intention by the programers to even include Bulbasaur and other Pokémon not belonging to Hoenn into that Pokédex, and those numbers are just a leftover from the new ordering (Hoenn listing) that ignores the rest of the Pokémon. Moreover, no official sources make mention of numbers beyond 202 (Deoxys) nor the Hdex lists them (both here in Bulbapedia nor in the game, which doesn't even expand further if you own a Bulbasaur). All of this is the same as if we said that in Diamond and Pearl, Bulbasaur was #152 in the Sinnoh Pokédex, which in this case is not true, because the programmers did think ahead. In short, in my opinion, Hoenn dex numbers should be removed from any Pokémon not listed in the official Hoenn dex, even if they DO have a number which is not shown for obious reasons. I will not do it until we have an agreement to remove them. hfc2X 21:35, 21 December 2011 (UTC)

I'd have to agree with hfc2x on this one; I was always wondering the same thing as to why this info would be even on the Pokémon pages if it's not seen in the Pokédex. ht14 21:43, 21 December 2011 (UTC)
I think rather than the numbers being "leftover from the new ordering", they are more likely there to prevent a game crash in the case that their Pokédex is opened before intended. Officially, they are not in the Hoenn Pokédex—however, internally, they are. Removing information is not something we should be doing, and this information exists in the games. Likewise, we mention that Arceus has a ???-type form, but not consider it equal with the used ones. --SnorlaxMonster 07:43, 22 December 2011 (UTC)
That's not information anyways. And if it is, it should be kept in an article accordingly, much like ???-type Arceus (which is considered more a hidden feature than an actual form). Something you are not able to see in-game is not notable imo. I still think that if numbers are to be kept, they should not be in the main Pokémon Infobox. hfc2X 06:48, 27 December 2011 (UTC)
Well, how about if the numbers are shown as -- on the pages? That way, we don't remove information (it is information), but also don't potentially make people who don't hover think it is in the Hoenn Pokédex. --SnorlaxMonster 11:46, 27 December 2011 (UTC)

Alignment of external links

I have a suggestion to change alignment of "External links" section to left. Compare, for example:

Now - looks quite messy Would be

For that only one string should be changed:

|- align="center"
| class="roundy" style="background: #FFFFFF; border: 1px solid #{{{{{type1|Unknown}}} color light}}; font-size: smaller;" |
{{Links/{{{generation}}}|pokefordex={{{pokefordex}}}|ndex={{{ndex}}}|name={{{name|{{{tmname}}}}}} }}

to

|- align="left"
| class="roundy" style="background: #FFFFFF; border: 1px solid #{{{{{type1|Unknown}}} color light}}; font-size: smaller;" |
{{Links/{{{generation}}}|pokefordex={{{pokefordex}}}|ndex={{{ndex}}}|name={{{name|{{{tmname}}}}}} }}

Thanks SnorlaxMonster for correcting this. Ruxax 21:06, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

{{{ability3}}} parameter

Since Kyurem now has three formes and three abilities, a {{{ability3}}} should be implemented to accommodate it. - Chosen of Mana 21:39, 17 June 2012 (UTC)

MisterE13 and I have been working on one. It still needs some tweaking, specifically so that the Pokédex numbers work properly, before it's ready for use. Werdnae (talk) 23:17, 17 June 2012 (UTC)

Opdex not working

On Mew and Deoxys, the Browser number isn't displaying. --Abcboy (talk) 18:51, 2 September 2012 (UTC)

HIdden abilities that depend on forme

The infoboxes on Tornadus, Thundurus, Landorus, and Giratina are misleading because they imply that they have their hidden ability in either forme. However this isn't true, they only have their hidden ability in Incarnate/Alterted formes. The ability doesn't change in Therian/Origin. Can the infobox be updated to reflect this somehow? Mega Evolution

What about "abilitym" for Mega Evolution's abilities? (Subzerobrasil (talk) 07:01, 29 September 2013 (UTC))
