What does G stand for? This seems like a silly way to save five characters, especially since when reading the wikicode, it's easier to parse Pokémon breeding than breeding. Plus, the former doesn't require a template invocation. — Laoris (Blah) 16:48, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure G was for game, originally, although this template is useful for linking to things like Pokémon breeding and Pokémon battle. It seems that we use it mostly for ease, so people don't have to find the e-acute. --((Marton imos)) 05:11, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

Okay folks.

No more using g to replace good old placement of Pokémon whatever. It was originally there for use by all of the games, before we moved them to their real names. Now it'd only see use for Colo/XD. Then someone had the bright idea to change every aspect of Pokémon Trainer to Trainer! What's worse? Well then someone decided "OH HEY, I KNOW! LET'S JUST USE THE TEMPLATE WITHOUT PARAMETERS" and we get things like Pikachu is a . Now, I know, Pikachu's straight-up, y'all. But really. Honestly. The G in this template was supposed to stand for game. It's not meant to be a stand-in for the thing that this wiki is all about, especially since you're writing it out anyway when you link it. Pokémon Trainer. Easy as anything. Noobs barely understand the concept of link templates anyway, let's not make it MORE difficult.

I move for the deletion of (or at the very least, very heavy restriction on the use of) this template. This has become the ultimate in laziness templates. Pikachu is a Pokémon ... Honestly. TTEchidna 00:51, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

I feel that, at the very least, we should rig the template so that, if anyone tries to use to link to Pokémon, we have it display "Lazy, lazy!" (or a similar message) instead, as well as add any page that uses it this way put into a special category; the category would note that the pages in it use the template improperly and that the link should be changed to a proper link. We can work in other lazy uses into displaying similar messages the future, but at the very least, we should get rid of the most lazy use now. --Shiningpikablu252 03:07, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
After reading this and getting a response on the List of link templates page, I understand what the template is for now. I knew that using will result in that incorrect link, which was why I link to the whole article Pokémon this way. I will admit that I started using the template incorrectly when I saw anime in episode articles. I'll go back and fix all of my episode summaries. By the way, can an admin change DP episode to eliminate the anime in the first line? --rockersk08 16:01, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

Seriously.

Why do we have this? --AT 03:31, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

For the same reason that we have every template. --RexRacer 03:32, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
I mean, it's recommended in one of the guidelines (can't remember which one) to try not to use it because it's a laziness template. If it's recommended by a guideline to avoid it, what's the point in having this? --αワニノコ 03:35, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
