Rocket Scientists are the subset of Team Rocket which is used to keep the Team on top of techonological developments. They help design and impliment many of the devices used in Team Rocket's plans, as well as being the foremost group which experiments on Pokémon.

In the Games

Kanto

In Red/Blue and Fire Red/Leaf Green games, some of the Silph Co. Scientists join the group for power and money. Both they and the Rocket Grunts will attack the player to stop the player from saving Silph Co from the Rockets.

Sevii Islands

In Fire Red/Leaf Green, when the player obtains the Sapphire from the Ruin Valley cave, Rocket Scientist Gideon drops down and steals it. You will face him after defeating all Rocket Grunts in a local warehouse. After defeating him, the player is told about Giovanni's son and read a file regarding a high-frequency sound wave machine which would influence Pokémon Evolution.

In Johto

A group of Rocket Scientists, as well as Grunts and Rocket Admins, try to stop the player from destroying the high-frequency sound wave machine which would influence Pokémon Evolution.

Manga

Kanto and Johto

In the Kanto and Johto sagas they don’t make many appearances as they are more keeping to the shadows. In fact, the only Rocket Scientist to be known to the public is Blaine who helped on the Mewtwo Project. In Chapter 20, it was shown that the Eevee Red was asked to get for Erika was part of the "Eevee Bio-engineering Scheme" that would allow Team Rocket to have a weapon with the skills to freely transform between any of its three forms without the use of stones. The scientists did this at Giovanni's command. Most of the Scientists were killed Mewtwo when destroyed the Cinnabar Lab in Chapter 34.

Anime

The Rocket Scientists possibly worked under Dr. Fuji, creating Mewtwo. However, they were killed when Mewtwo destroyed the lab. Then, other Rocket Scientists worked under Professor Sebastian making the forced Pokémon evolution beam and the crystal system that traps the Electric Pokemon. Further into Johto, a team of Rockets working under Namba managed to trap two Lugia, a mother and child.

In Gold/Sliver/Crystal, Rocket Scientists may carry any of the following: Magnemite Koffing Ditto Porygon
