Tangrowth (Japanese: モジャンボ Mojumbo) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.

It evolves from Tangela when leveled up while knowing AncientPower.

Biology

Physiology

Tangrowth is a 6-foot-tall Pokémon with a black body wrapped in blue vines. Its stubby black feet are tipped with red. Tangrowth has grown a pair of blue arms that have three fingers that are tipped with red. Tangrowth's arms are boneless and are unable to respond to pain, meaning that the arms can break off and Tangrowth wouldn't mind if the situation actually did occur. If one of Tangrowth's arms is cut off it will grow back. A pair of saucer-like eyes peek out from beneath the tangled mess of vines.

Gender differences

A female Tangrowth's fingers are completely red while a male's fingers only have red tips.

Special abilities

Much like Tangela, Tangrowth can ensnare and entangle its foes with its vines. Tangrowth can also launch powders that stun or poison the foe. Tangrowth has also been found with the special ability Leaf Guard, which prevents status problems in sunny weather. Tangrowth is capable of swinging from branches in a somewhat ape-like manner with speed and agility, making it able to potentially dodge enemy attacks.

Behavior

Tangrowth are quite unintelligent and slow, but also very friendly. Its vines grow so profusely that, in the warm season, it obscures Tangrowth's eyes.

Habitat

Tangrowth live in or near jungles with its pre-evolution Tangela and other Template:Type2s.

Trivia

Origin

It is based on vines. Considering Tangrowth's shaggy appearance, Tangrowth may be based on an exaggerated concept of a shaggy caveman. It may also be based on a Green Man, a motif that is represented as a face surrounded by leaves and vines.

Name origin

Tangrowth's name is derived from tangle and growth. Mojumbo's name comes from もじゃもじゃ mojyamojya, which means shaggy or unkempt. It is also possible that the "jumbo" part of its name refers that it is roughly twice the size of Tangela.

In other languages

  • German: Tangoloss - From Seetang (seaweed) and Koloss (colossus).
  • French: Bouldeneu - From boule de nœuds (knot ball).
  • Korean: 덩쿠림보 Deongkurimbo
  • Chinese (Taiwan): 巨蔓藤 Jù Màn Téng - Literally "Giant tendrilled/creeping vine".
