Trivia
- Tangela's original name was "Meduza," a misspelling of "Medusa" (a Greek mythological character).
- Tangela is the only pure Grass-type in Generation I. Others were either Grass and Bug, Grass and Psychic, or Grass and Poison.
- Up until Generation IV, Tangela was the only Generation I Grass-type to not evolve into or from something.
- Although it is said to live in plains, its friend area in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon is the Jungle. Also, its Pal Park area is the Forest.
- Tangela bears a resemblance to a blue Fry Kid from Ronald McDonald fame.
Origin
Tangela is probably based on Medusa, a gorgon of Greek mythology, who had a head of snakes and turned any creature that saw her into stone. The tentacles on Tangela, however, are vines.
Name origin
Tangela's name is probably based on the word tangle. Its Japanese name may be based on もじゃもじゃ mojyamojya, which means shaggy, or unkempt.
