I recently found out that the Japanese word for an adult antlion (薄羽蜉蝣) translates "thin-winged mayfly," and I believe Vibrava's design takes that literally. Since it's the mid-stage evolution and all of its names are partially derived from larva or nymph, I'm guessing that it may have been based on a mayfly dun (whereas Flygon would be the mature adult, albeit based on different species). EDIT: It should also be noted that antlions nor dragonflies have this kind of middle stage, which may further support Vibrava being inspired by mayflies. [[User:Icycatelf|Icycatelf]] ([[User talk:Icycatelf|talk]]) 22:05, 17 June 2019 (UTC)

Name origin

[1] - Vibrava's name may also come from the "vibra". - unsigned comment from Vhazhiphor (talkcontribs)

Another possible name origin

There is a dragon-like creature mentioned in these legends called a Vibria. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vibria#Dragons_in_Catalan_mythology - unsigned comment from Fimbulwinter2012 (talkcontribs)

How is that distinct from the origin mentioned directly above you, which happens to already be mentioned on the page? —Minimiscience 02:16, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

Levitate

Potential error, If Vibrava's natural ability is Levitate, how can it have a Hidden Ability of Levitate? - unsigned comment from PKMN Soldier Berlioz (talkcontribs)

Vibrava's has it's hidden ability when it evolves from a trapinch with its hidden ability, sheer force. This allows the vibrava to still pass down the hidden ability through breeding Zombiedude347 (talk) 13:40, 6 August 2014 (UTC)

Physiology

The physiology section states "Vibrava is a Pokémon strongly resembling a dragonfly." However, Vibrava looks much more like a mayfly than a dragonfly. The presence of antennae and the "rhombus shapes at the end of its tail" representing the cerci, as well as the curl of the abdomen are evidence of this as dragonflies lack these features. The Trapinch line are all based on Antlions, but I can definitely see the resemblance to mayflies. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 18:59, 16 November 2012 (UTC)
Yes that's true. But this stage doesn't resemble an adult antlion very much either. I think its resemblance to a mayfly should be mentioned in the article. BlameTheMedia (talk) 05:33, 17 November 2012 (UTC)

Origin

I recently found out that the Japanese word for an adult antlion (薄羽蜉蝣) translates "thin-winged mayfly," and I believe Vibrava's design takes that literally. Since it's the mid-stage evolution and all of its names are partially derived from larva or nymph, I'm guessing that it may have been based on a mayfly dun (whereas Flygon would be the mature adult, albeit based on different species).
