NEXT PERSON WHO COMMENTS ON THE "OH GLAMEOW IS PEARL ONLY WHY IS IT UNDER DIAMOND" OR SOME EQUIVALENT GETS BANNED. READ THE ARTICLE BEFORE LOOKING AT THE PICTURES. Thanks! TTEchidna 22:08, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

^-- would mean the pedia is wrong about Nyaruuma (and Bunyatto) not being in Pearl x)

I think the format of this list caused confusion - from what I've heard, Nyarumā and Bunyatto are exclusive to Pearl, not from... --Pie 05:07, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

The following need to be moved from Diamond to Pearl. - Glameow / Purugly - Shieldon / Bastiodon - Misdreavus / Mismagius

From what I can tell the whole list needs to be switched around (Diamond = Pearl and visa versa).

That's because they're the Pokémon that are missing from the version in question, for all of them. TTEchidna 04:57, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Okay - now i feel stupid. Still, doesn't this seem a little backwards? It seems more natural to look for what you have and not what you're missing. That's probably just me. - kuja

Eh, true, but then we'd encounter a problem when it comes to the third versions. TTEchidna 01:10, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

I caught a Murkrow in Eterna Forest in Pokémon Diamond ... Actually now that I think about it I did have Pokémon LeafGreen in the GBA Slot. Hmm ... Whetever. File:Ani137MS.gif TESH File:Ani233MS.gifTALK File:Ani474MS.gif SAND 16:07, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

Um...The Pokemon in Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue team need to be switched around. All of them. --Chimchar007 4:02, 10 April 2008
No, they do not. Did you even read the disclaimer? The tables show the Pokémon that are missing from the games in question. It's ignorance like this that caused the page to end up protected in the first place. --Shiningpikablu252 20:19, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Hey, um...

I'm protecting this, simply because no one wants to read the disclaimer that "the Pokémon listed below are MISSING from that particular game, and will need to be traded from a game within the same generation that does not list them." I boldened it, nothing. So I'm gonna protect it for... oh, a year. Any comments? TTEchidnaFire echyGSDS! 05:06, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Well, it's not as if it needs updates nearly as much as the List of AG episodes did when it had to be protected. People won't magically start reading the bold before editing in the next year, though.
This is a good time to bring up an issue I have with the colours of the tables, though. Black on black? Seriously? --FabuVinny T-C-S 10:15, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
True, next time an update is needed is when GSDS or DPv3 comes out. TTEchidnaFire echyGSDS! 02:28, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
...which, DPv3 probably won't come out until 2009, and GSDS might not be planned. Tina δ 02:35, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
Either way, it'll be a while. TTEchidnaFire echyGSDS! 04:28, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Correction:

Vulpix/Ninetales is not in Pokémon Gold. Vulpix/Ninetales is in Silver/Crystal. Growlithe/Arcanine's in Gold.

Fail. Read the page. The bold text. You know. The whole REASON why this page got protected. Tina δ281 02:20, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
Yes, yes. I noticed that mistake. My bad. Forget I said anything. Chikoquil

Suggestion

May I suggest a color change? The blue on black is somewhat hard to read. MoldyOrange 23:04, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

You think blue on black is bad? The Mystery Dungeon sections have black on black! It's basically unreadable unless you highlight! I second this color change! --Shiningpikablu252 23:06, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Hmmm..

I think the confusion is due to the title of the Article... why don't you change it to "Pokémon missings in versions" or something like that? It sure is no big deal but... i just feel like annoying a little bit 8)

It might be, but there's no good way to do that. "Pokémon that are uncatchable in certain versions" just doesn't sound good. TTEchidna 03:22, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
How 'bout Version-exlcuded Pokémon? Elemento 17:56, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
I have to agree with Elemento. The title does cause a lot of confusion. I mean most people would expect to see Pokémon that are listed in the boxes to be exclusive to that particular game and not the other way around. I think Version-exluded Pokémon would be an excellent solution to the problem. Or you can just swap everything. Or leave it, whatever. I know that it silly that some people can't seem to figure out everything is reversed but, that's the way the cookie crumbles. --ケンジガール 01:17, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

Real professional

Could we get a clean-up on this article? it looks like it's completely hacked, or an editor totally lost it. - PDL

Oh wait, nevermind, people are too retarded about things, disregard what I said. - PDL

Eeeexactly. People were too dumb to read the article and skipped straight down to the list and are all "LOL KYOOGRZ IN SAFIRE NOT RUBBY ILL FICKS IT". So, protected, and even THAT didn't stop the stupid questions coming in. TTEchidna 05:13, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

So what's going to happen when Platinum is released in September? semi-protection? - PDL

There is no need to reduce the protection level on this one. A sysop can add the list when we get it. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 15:22, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
It's kinda funny how this whole shiploz could have been avoid if the titles of each field had "Not in (version name)". Or is there a particular reason why it hasn't been done. - PDL

Surskit and Lotad

Shouldn't it be mentioned that if you mix records with Emerald and Ruby/Sapphire, outbreaks can happen in one game that usually only happen in the other? For example, I mixed records between Sapphire and Emerald. In Emerald, I could from then on get Surskit outbreaks, and there'd be the odd Seedot swarm in Sapphire. Shouldn't any of this be mentioned? I'm Missingno. Master, and I approve this message. 01:23, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Serious Business?

Did somebody get EXTREMELY angry over some edits on this page? The reson I'm asking is because as soon as I go to the page it starts screaming at me about the obligatory third version. Its a little unsettling. --Cjhard 16:29, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

And also, its been said before but I'll say it again; the format of the page is confusing as hell. Much better to show pokemon that are exclusive to a version, rather than from a version. Cjhard 16:34, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
It looked worse before I edited that message down. And no, it is easier to list what is missing from each because of the third version. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 16:57, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

So is anyone going to change the banner colors for each version? Something about them being all black kinda bugs me, but that's about it. -- PDL

When people constantly change the page to say "LOL VUPLIX IN BLU NOT RED" and "KYORGY IN SAFIRE WAT U TALKIN BOUT IT IN RUBBY" you do tend to get pissed. TTEchidna 20:18, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

Porygon2

Red Rescue Team lists Porygon2 as missing from its version. Wouldn't it be possible to obtain it by evolving a Porygon, or is the Up-Grade item missing as well? ~$aturn¥oshi THE VOICES 17:22, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

The Up-Grade is available in shops in Wish Cave. However, Porygon2 still doesn't appear in the wild without a wondermail code and is much, much easier to obtain by recruiting. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 16:47, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Trade Evo's

Can Pokémon that evolve trough trade truly be considered exclusive?

Example: In Gen. III Scyther can only be obtained in Fire Red yet it also shows Scizor. But technicaly Scizor isn't actually available in Fire Red, so why is he on this list. Just because he evolves from a Version Exlusive doesn't make him also a Version Exclusive. Does it? Just wondering.Zabbethx 13:24, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Since you can only get a Scizor by evolving the exclusively Fire Red Scyther, it still counts as a version exclusive since that's the game of origin for all non-sharked wild caught Scizor. They are considered the same individual Pokémon, regardless of what evolutionary stage or how evolution is acheived. - PDL

hold on wait

perhaps thats why they change it! id much rather look at what i have than whats gone! i want it switched.Whatswithalltheextraspace 00:19, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

Is it that hard to tell what Pokémon you don't have in each version? The reason why it's set up the way it is is because the third version never has Pokémon that's totally exclusive to it and it alone. It only has missing Pokémon that you need the other two games if you want them. - PDL

i feel so backwards!!! *crys*Whatswithalltheextraspace 14:54, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

If you want to know which Pokémon are in a particular game, you will have to look at the entire regional dex listing. I would think it's easier to just see what isn't in your version after that. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 17:45, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

Uh, are you sure you got all the info correct? Most of the entries under Diamond are for Pearl, and most under Pearl are for Diamond... plus, Bonsly/Sudowoodo are Pearl, and Mime Jr./Mr. Mime are Diamond (neither of those lines are exclusive to Platnium).
And if you also want to get picky, the following lines should be opposite each other...:
  • Glameow and Stunky
  • Cranidos/Shieldon
  • Seel/Spheal
  • Aron/Slowpoke.

I thought that too.The name is misleading--DCM((TalkContributions))
Just thought of this... since it isn't a strict template, just a regular table, could it be constructed so that perhaps if BOTH version-exclusive Pokémon are in the third version, the version exclusive will take up two rows for games 1/2, and just repeat the data in one row each for the 3rd version (middle column)? I'll work on an example of this and put it here once I'm finished, since my explaining skills are slightly lacking now. ←{Berrymaster|Talk|Contrib}→ 22:30, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

What are everybody's opinions on this chart format? Just a suggestion by me... ←{Berrymaster|Talk|Contrib}→ 23:07, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

I'm fine with it, it's easy to read. That's ALL the missing ones? That'd leave a lot of empty cells in the table :x MK 01:45, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
I dunno. We've always done it like this. There's an easier list to keep those that are explicitly missing from each game than to tell what's exclusively in that game, always due to the third game clause. TTEchidna 03:10, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
Well, part of being part of the MediaWiki family and open to all contributors is to be able to evolve, change, improve. In all due respect TTE, an argument of 'we've always done it that way' I don't think is the greatest defense of the current system. It's just a suggestion I came up with to see if we can make this slightly less confusing, if a large amount of people like the change (including you admins) then we can update.
I also have another question unrelated to this about the Diamond/Pearl/Platinum charts... aren't the Seel and Spheal lines corresponding version exclusives? The Seel line is listed beside Slowpoke, and Aron line beside Spheal. It'd make more sense for Seel and Spheal to be together, as they are found in the same areas in the wild (Battle Zone), while Aron and Slowpoke are found using the Poké Radar in nearby areas (Fuego and Route 205 respectively). It seems to make a little more logical sense that way. ←{Berrymaster|Talk|Contrib}→ 21:02, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
Yes, that is the way it should be. They should match the areas, as that's how it's done in the game and makes most sense. The only exceptions are when that doesn't apply for some reason (like Raichu not being in Yellow). MK 21:50, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
It's not just that we've always done it this way, but do you wanna list all of the Pokémon catchable in one version?
Actually, heck, here's an idea. Let's copy/paste the Ndex in here, indicating what games it's found in. TTEchidna 22:29, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
I'm not sure if you're serious or not, but that's a good idea. I can see it now, "List of Pokémon by game". Gligar 19:35, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

Latias and Latios

Shouldn't they be included in the RSE list? I mean, technically they're both found in all three games, what with events, but how about non-event? For Ruby, it would say Latias. For Sapphire, it would say Latios. And for Emerald, it would say Latias or Latios* with a sub-note depending on the choice. Gligar 19:42, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

I almost got banned because I almost didn't notice this as well. In the Gen. II table there are the Teddiursa and Phanpy families listed to be missing in Japanese Silver and Gold, respectively. And I see that nobody hasn't edited the page itself to the one I suggested yet, though no one has shot it down here. Why? UltimateSephiroth (about me · chat · edits) 22:26, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

I just know I'm gonna get blasted for this, but...

The article is titled "Version-exclusive Pokémon". So why doesn't it show them under the version they are exclusive to? — THE TROM — 03:52, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

Read the top or the article.--Coolピカチュウ! 03:54, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I know. But having it the other way would make much more sense as the content would actually match the title and stop TTE making harsh threats to new users. — THE TROM — 03:57, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
Well thats what they desided and it's not new with the TTE thing.--Coolピカチュウ! 04:12, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
Well now could we decide to make sense? — THE TROM — 05:01, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
The other thing is, this page does not match in any way the tables listed at the likes of this article. — THE TROM — 08:48, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

Before anyone gets mad

Let me just say that although the big red bold font is eye-catching and may force some people to read it to get your point across, it was terribly unprofessional looking and made it look like this page was written by a temperamental middle schooler.

So revert it if you want, but I'd suggest that a re-write and cleanup is necessary, although what I removed was mostly redundant anyways. --Dhargk 16:51, 25 December 2008 (UTC)

If you look at the few coomments above you can see noone got the Idea of the whole article, So TTE goes Haywire and puts up a big, Intimidating, Terrifying, Atrociuos thing......--Force Fire talk 02:20, 26 December 2008 (UTC)
So somebody pitched a hissy fit and we're gonna just leave the article looking like a temperamental Myspace layout? What's stopping people from re-writing it in a way where it conveys the point of the gigantic red stuff without looking like the page has been vandalized? --Dhargk 13:26, 26 December 2008 (UTC)

Split

This article could very easily be reduced to a definition of the term"Version-exclusive Pokémon" and a link to a separate article that lists Pokémon by version unavailability or something similar. That would help avoid confusing our readers/editors. And please, nobody give me any bullshit about "theyre jus not trying hard enough." I doubt you read the whole article when you look up something like Soundwave or F-22 Raptors, you just skip to whatever section holds the information you're looking for. --Marton(I'm Jewish)imos 03:05, 26 December 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, that makes sense to meDCM((曲奇饼妖怪Spy on My Edits))
I guess I was a little angry and overzealous about this before, so sorry. Anyway, I'd like you guys to consider the option at any rate. --Marton(I'm Jewish)imos 04:19, 26 December 2008 (UTC)
Or, you know, we could just move the Pokemon in the article to the version that they are exclusively in.......-RexRacer -talk 04:30, 26 December 2008 (UTC)
The reason we don't do that in the first place is because the third version kind of screws things up. We might be able to come up with a table to accommodate that, of course, but in the meantime we should look at other options to help readers stay out of trouble. --Marton(I'm Jewish)imos 04:32, 26 December 2008 (UTC)
It doesn't seem that hard. Just make a list of Pokémon that do not appear in either of the other games in each trilogy. You could still use rowspans, i.e. have Seedot/Nuzleaf rowspanning Ruby and Emerald, rather than simply sitting in Sapphire and causing truckloads of confusion. How do other websites do this? — THE TROM — 06:43, 26 December 2008 (UTC)
I see now that Serebii lists the games individually. Could that be an option? — THE TROM — 06:45, 26 December 2008 (UTC)

(indent reset)I'm voting for the split as suggested in the first message. "Pokémon by version unavailability" sounds a lot more of what the page contains now than "Version-exclusive Pokémon". UltimateSephiroth (about me · chat · edits) 11:59, 26 December 2008 (UTC)

How about this?

I've thrown together a wall of code here (most of it can be removed, but I'm no expert). What do you guys think of this for the page? I think this will clear up any confusion, as it uses a similar style to the locations articles, such as Route 102.

Pokémon Games
200 Misdreavus D P Pt
198 Murkrow D P Pt
114 Tangela D P Pt
366 Clamperl D P Pt
A colored background means that the Pokémon can be found in the specified game. A white background with a colored letter means that the Pokémon cannot be found in the game.

Thanks, — THE TROM — 05:08, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

Hmm... the highlighted columns indicate availability, I take it? I'm so used to the way the article is right now, the intuitive solution confused me for a second. --((Marton imos)) 08:54, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
...OK, I've actually read the footer and get it now. Looks good to me. --((Marton imos)) 08:56, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
Awesome. I'm just working over some templates at the moment; I can take responsibility to update the whole page when some other editors have checked this over (unless someone else really really wants to do it). I have nothing else major on at the moment, that's why I offer. — THE TROM — 09:01, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

Much, much easier to understand than what it is currently. Get it mod-approved immediately and replace the article so viewers won't be intimidated* be confused by the strange format of the current article. - s.Combusken 07:05, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
Evkl likes it, as does Martonimos. Jio's chimed in on my subpages, and I've asked him if i can mainspace it. — THE TROM — 07:25, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
OK, moved to Template:VexHeader, Template:VexFooter and Template:Vex(1,2,3,fl,4). I'll sort the article out tonight, as soon as I can. — THE TROM — 07:37, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
Fully updated now. — THE TROM — 09:16, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
I notice your Gen 1 tables lack Green... this is because it's the same as the English Blue, right? Perhaps a note to that effect is in order. --((Marton imos)) 10:08, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
That's better. Anyone who gets confused can just scroll up, see the notice, and get things figured out. --((Marton imos)) 10:13, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
I like it, but I think it'd look better if it went R/G/B/Y, with the notice at the top (oh wait, no one reads those!) saying that Green is English Blue. Not that, you know, anyone cares about Gen I anymore... TTEchidna 10:16, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
I thought about that, but it would be more confusing than two blue columns. We possibly could lose the brackets and extra characters though, and just keep it as J and E. — THE TROM — 10:19, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
...is this discussion still ongoing? I don't want to archive it if you two are going to try replying as I'm moving it. --((Marton imos)) 10:41, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
