You know, I still don't see how it can be found in the Great Marsh. Look at its Dex area in the game, it says Area Unknown. Kangaskhan doesn't, and it's one of the Post-NDex rare Pokémon.

Name

Isn't it possible that the name could have come (directly or indirectly) from the genuine ancient reptile Tanystropheus (Tropius is surely a homophone with the tropheus bit) which apparently means 'Long Necked One'? --NeilTarrant 13:47, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Triffid

Incorrect Base Capture Probability

Minimum probability is 1/3 * Base, which for tropius is 0.667, page says it is 0.261. Yet to check if it's on any other Pokemon, Pokepro97 (talk) 11:33, 28 May 2014 (UTC).

Edit: Calculations directly from the catch rate formula appear to give very high catch rates, formula Stats#In_Generation_III_onward. Formula in my spreadsheet where each cell reference is to a cell with the appropriate data to prove my math is correct:
