November 2007: Beckett rumour

Here's my source: [1]. File:164sMS.pngShiny?! 21:50, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

but right now we can consider it a "rumor" until Nintendo or another source reveals new information. That's what your source says about this. --Shiningpikablu252 21:56, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
I'm really wary of this. If there is a so-called Platinum, it wouldn't be a GS remake; did the RB remake come as one game? No, it was two. It wouldn't make sense, either, as DPv3, due to its name. I also tried to visit [www.pokemonplatinum.com Pokemonplatinum.com], no site. [www.pokemonamethyst.com Pokemonamethyst.com], however... that redirects to Nintendo...
Best possible course of action: someone contacts Beckett and asks where the hell they got the information. TTEchidnaFire echyGSDS! 01:08, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
That's wierd that it redirects to Nintendo site! --File:Spr 3e 059.gifFile:Spr 3e 132.gifTheryguy512 File:Trozeiani025.gif 15:23, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
It's not unusual. Nintendo often reserve possible game names, many of which are not used. If they haven't done so for Platinum, that would be more telling. --FabuVinny T-C-S 15:34, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
Sounds like a job for Gamespot's Rumor Control...--Shiningpikablu252 02:48, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
Interesting.......But a new Ranger DS! That's cool! But that is good proof for Platinum Version....--File:Spr 3e 059.gifFile:Spr 3e 132.gifTheryguy512 File:Trozeiani025.gif 15:21, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
Deleted for now: While a third game to DP is inevitable, "Platinum" is still only in rumour territory right now. As WPM pointed out, Beckett aren't that reliable for new game news. --FabuVinny T-C-S 15:28, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
Besides, if we were to keep this page, we'd also need a Ranger 2 page based on the same reports. --Shiningpikablu252 15:30, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

This game is confirmed. http://www.pokemon.co.jp/special/platinum/ the name makes sense. in japan the kanji says "Platina" ans who does that remind us of? Giratina Arutoa 13:04, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

May 2008: Corocoro announcement

  • sighs* The scan looks...Real. Very real. But it still could be fake |: I think everyone should just WAIT until CoroCoro is released, then make new articles + add new info. Takoto タコト 14:59, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

Version?

Should this be titled "Pokémon Platinum Version," like all the rest? --ニョロトノ666 20:38, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

I hit that when I edited the Template:Main series. But the Pokémon Platinum Version was protected from being created by TTE•Pokemaniac102 20:39, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Delete this, this is Speculation, can somone put the Delete Tag, I want OFFICAL Proof, a Corocoro scan isn't Offical proof.--Quick Man 20:51, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

You're acting just like TTE. But he would blow his head off. We have scans of the whole magazine. but I want official proof too•Pokemaniac102 20:58, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
The new Famitsu magazine came out as well with a Pokemon Platinum article. Same information. And now don't tell me someone is crazy enough to create fake scans for each magazine. [3] Goldchaos 21:24, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
There's someone crazy enough to create fake scans for each magazine. There, I told you•Pokemaniac102 21:47, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
I have finally found someone with the same sense of humour as myself! OrigamiGuy-Talk-Contribs 18:13, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

I have to agree; until there is actual confirmation of anything from official sources, there shouldn't be a full page, perhaps just a discussion page, but no article. I've also seen this called Opal version, and there was a shiny photoshoped image to go with that one too! Remove this until there is proof, now. NonaSuomi 00:40, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Yea but that was merely a photoshopped image. But this was complex frames from two unrelated magazines. TTEchidna also said that since it is on Famitsu, that it's likely official•Pokemaniac102 00:49, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Now it's official >_> --Mycroft 12:27, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Irony

This page was up for deletion 2 weeks ago now we all can't wait for more info to be added to it --lord mada 15:13, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Two weeks ago it wasn't confirmed. Now it's official. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 15:19, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Origin form

so its got giratina in 'origin' and 'another' forms, but only 'another' appeared in d/p. i guess this means that platinum will have to send a data patch when trading an origin form from platinum to d/p. right? OrigamiGuy-Talk-Contribs 15:24, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Probably. I mean, i'm pretty sure the "Origin" form sprite isn't programmed into D/P. So yeah... :\ Takoto タコト| サソデイ = 愛 15:39, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
i guess this means a new version of pokesav will be in order, to comply with the differing forms of giratina. OrigamiGuy-Talk-Contribs 15:46, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
Or just pull off a Deoxys and just revert back when it gets traded to DP. Tina 15:50, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
that would annoy people though wouldnt it? i mean the deoxys sprites were all coded in, and trades have been used to transfer data patches before, how hard can it be to add 2 sprites, the relevant animation data and modify the pokedex to accommodate a new form? OrigamiGuy-Talk-Contribs
Wait, what trade has transfered data patches before? I'm curious. Tina 15:56, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
Deoxys (MathijsP 16:06, 15 May 2008 (UTC))
The Berry Glitch was a data-patch trade, so to speak. I seemed to remember that in gen 3 there was a patch that was transferred by trading, i may have made a mistake. But surely when D/P connects to Platinum, Platinum will detect the following:
  • whether its connected to D/P or PL (platinum shortening)
  • if its D/P, whether said D/P has the patch or not
and then send or not send the patch accordingly. OrigamiGuy-Talk-Contribs 16:15, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

If You can get Origin form in D/P you might be able to get it over wifi whenthis game is released. User:Darkmaster0

Hey everyone, ain't it obvious? Giratina will ONLY be available as Origine Form in Platinum and when traded back to D/P its stats will be recalculated and its sprite will change to Another Form, much like Deoxys in previous games. Also there ARE patches transfered through trades, or have you forgotten already? what about the national dex in R/S? it is unobtainble until you trade with FR/LG or Emerald that has it already. hfc2X 19:37, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
yes. but only fire red or leaf green, not emerald Pikachu25 17:22, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

and another thing

(link) - should this be mentioned? it says that regigigas and shaymin get new forms, volkner is no longer on the sunyshore gym, and the underground will go wi-fi. opinions? OrigamiGuy-Talk-Contribs 17:47, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

We should stick to the information in the magazines and on the website. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 18:18, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Clothes

Well, it isn't confirmed, that there will be a new main outfit. Many players think that the blue jacket is only for the snow areas off Sinnoh (Snowpoint, R217, R218, Mt. Coronet) --Furanty 19:29, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Well, certain areas or not, it's a new outfit. Porygon-Z 19:39, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
We're still jumping to far too many conclusions here. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 19:41, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
This is just my guess but I think Lucas's(If he gets a bew look) new look is going to be something like this File:Koki in Platinum.PNG to comparison to this File:Koki.png--CoolPikachu! 01:02, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

A word of notice

I know everyone is excited about this new game and only wonder what will be new. HOWEVER this talk page is not the place to do it. please take any "Oh I hope this is in Platinum...." or anything discussion like that to this thread on the forums. There is a difference between discussion to help the article and discussion about the game. Thanks! -Sketchies 20:23, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

LISTEN TO SKETCHIES DAMMIT. Talk pages are purely for the article, NOT FOR BLOODY SPECULATION! Glinn Mgraw 11:08, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

Battle screenshot

I don't think the battle screen is actually updated. Looking at it, it seems to me like the HP bar and stuff are still sliding into space. Lucas doesn't have any Poké Balls by his head yet, and the background's still doing something weird, so I think it's still transitioning into the battle. --Martonimos((Talk)) 06:12, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

Yes, but the text doesn't appear until after the battle screen has finished transitioning, so maybe the 'pokeball bar' doesn't appear, or doesn't appear in wild battles. OrigamiGuy-Talk-Contribs 10:02, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
Or it's still beta. TTEchidna 11:20, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
Hang on a moment, let me steal my brother's Pearl. ...OK, yeah, that was me failing. I haven't played a game since Sapphire, and that was only until I got all the Pokémon I needed to trade him, so I'm not familiar with how the new games work. Apologies. --Martonimos((Talk)) 20:45, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

'Forme?'

What's with the extra e on Giratina's Origin Form? Who's spelling it like that? Has it even been officially translated into English yet?--Amp 19:17, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

It's a conspiracy by the Church of E. - Cassius335 19:38, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

Locations and Pokedex entries on pokemon pages

Is it really needed now? Because I dont like the part under Pearl in locations that says "Platinum:Unknown"Krakash 13:07, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

Yes it is. Information pops up sooner than you think! TTEchidna 00:43, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
No it isn't. There is no point having the templates set up until we actually have the information. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 15:15, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Trivia section

Gamefreak had obviously planned for Giratina to be the mascot with the sharing of syllables (giratina and platina), so I think it's a fact that the platinum on Giratina is the skin.--Shinin 13:53, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

And with the gir possibly coming from girare which can mean wander, it would basically be wandering platinum, which is what Giratina basically is.•PM102 01:01, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Colour to Version

Ho-Oh's primary colour is red when looking at at, so the Trivia point isn't exactly valid as it stands. Gywall 15:39, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Your point is valid, but there was already a Pokemon Red... Also Lugia isn't really silver, it is white, but that makes no sense. hfc2X 02:27, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

Protection request

A lot of people have making changes and undoing changes. I say we protect it for a while. --ケンジガール 20:39, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Just because it gets changed doesn't mean it should be protected. Porygon-Z 20:41, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
But there are edit wars going on. That's why it should be protected. --ケンジガール 20:45, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
There is no Edit war, just a bunch of reverts and suchC is for Cookie 20:46, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
By going through the history I see just 1 small war. Porygon-Z 20:47, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
But it's a minor one and there is no need for protection. There isn't one now. is there?•Pokemaniac102 20:56, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
Okay fine. --ケンジガール 21:11, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Escher?

Where'd the Escher comment from? Admittedly, I haven't seen this shot. But even so, it seems awfully POV. MidnightCeltic 18:34, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Serebii.com has a screenshot[4]. I guess the Torn World invokes the feelings of Escher's "Crazy Stairs" painting. ~$aturn¥oshi THE VOICES 18:54, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
Meh, I saw it, but I don't see Escher. But a question arises. How in the world do you get around in platforms like that? MidnightCeltic 18:34, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
My best guess would be some type of tile. Like a Warp Tile. ~$aturn¥oshi THE VOICES 18:39, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
I think the vine things help. and i think the screenshot needs to be rotated 90 degrees anticlockwise, judging by the way round lucas is standing. OrigamiGuy-T-C-M 18:40, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Please do not go off topic. the article is the only thing that should be discussed here. Thanks. -Sketchies 18:43, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

New Designs

I found this.Is this how they are going to look like?--CoolPikachu! 01:33, 12 June 2008 (UTC) From a Scan

Yes.--Loveはドコ? (talk contribs) 03:27, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

I was going to remove this; but then I realized this does have merit to the article. -Sketchies 03:36, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Dawn already has a Platinum picture on her page. We need to make a picture of Lucas...better than this one though, the outline is all messed up. Pearl too. Although his design barely changed, so a simple description would suffice for a longer time...--Loveはドコ? (talk contribs) 03:39, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Other Trainer sprites changing

Do we actually know that other Trainer sprites will change to accommodate for the cold?--Loveはドコ? (talk contribs) 04:04, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

I don't think so. There's not even any evidence that it will be colder; just the people wearing seeming winter clothes. --Martonimos((Argh|Blargh)) 04:36, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
Everyone's actually reporting Sinnoh's climate has changed; that much seems to hold true. Everybody else's sprites, I dunno.--Loveはドコ? (talk contribs) 05:37, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
Serebii hasn't always been the best source in the past. I'll let it go for now, though. --Martonimos((Argh|Blargh)) 07:36, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
In one screen with the two new characters there is snow on the ground in Eterna city, the climate looks like it's changing. -Alec2792 16:40, 13 June 2008 (EST)

Proven?

  • When transfered from Diamond and Pearl, Shaymin automatically changes into Sky Forme.

Can this be proven? I don't know if this was said directly in the Japanese mag, if it was then please excuse this. If not it should be removed.GJ 18:52, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

It's in the Famitsu scan. -Sketchies 18:58, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

The battle screenshot

there is a lack of ground on the giratina battle screenshot. my theory is this. cyrus summons dialga & palkia at spear pillar. a portal to the torn world opens and giratina comes through. when the player goes up to giratina, it returns to the torn world but the portal stays open. the torn world is much colder than sinnoh, thus sinnoh's climate goes colder. the player then goes through the portal into the torn world in search of giratina. Giratina is found floating above no ground and battled in the torn world. my evidence? compare the ground in the torn world with the ground under lucas in the battle screenshot. they look pretty similar to me... plus the origin(e) form can fly, yes? thus the lack of ground under giratina.
