Generation confirmed?

The article's infobox states that the game is part of Generation VI. Has this actually been confirmed? I would have thought now that it's more likely this game will be part of Generation VII. If the information is not confirmed, can we just remove it? Kidburla (talk) 21:17, 11 March 2016 (UTC)

2015/2016 confusion

"....held by Niantic CEO John Hanke on March 14, 2015, but was later cancelled..."

Isn't "2015" supposed to be 2016? Chaossy (talk) 20:22, 24 March 2016 (UTC)

Slightly late, but you are correct. Hopefully someone should fix it soon with more eyes on the page. --Super goku (talk) 16:01, 6 July 2016 (UTC)

Size and weight

Unlike core series, it's not fixed. Pokémon can be lighter/heavier and/or smaller/taller than the usual norm. For example, I have seen a picture of 0.65m/4.8kg Raticate (marked with XS for weight). Eridanus (talk) 12:55, 7 July 2016 (UTC)

Pikachu can be caught as starter Pokémon

Eeveelutions

The article currently says that eevee evolves based on its moves but that doesn't seem to be the case based on the data being compiled here - unsigned comment from Spexile (talkcontribs)

I read the post and thought I maybe understood what it wanted, but then I looked at the data spreadsheet and it pretty much stopped making all sense to me... The only thing I can understand from it is that, yes, it does appear Eevee's evolution criteria is not just the move it knows. Beyond that, I don't know it'll even be possible to draw any conclusions from that spreadsheet. Tiddlywinks (talk) 23:24, 9 July 2016 (UTC)

Regarding Available Pokemon and Items

Item list should be updated to include the disposable incubators. This user has found them at PokeStops with capability to incubate up to 3 eggs in total, one at a time. Possibility of stronger incubators?

Also, current PokeDex is listing user's owned pokemon out of available 250. While there have been little to no reports on Generation II Pokemon being seen or caught, it should be noted that the game is listing them as a possibility, likely at higher trainer levels. - unsigned comment from Carson3000 (talkcontribs)

You may want to double-check, are you really looking in the Pokedex (like here) when you see something like "X/250", or are you actually looking at just the Pokemon collection? Tiddlywinks (talk) 06:13, 11 July 2016 (UTC)
(edit conflict; sorry) I don't think the 250 capacity is (necessarily) any indication of Gen 2 Pokemon in the works. It's much more plausible, given the game mechanics, that the developers wanted to give people enough capacity to own more than one of each species. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 06:15, 11 July 2016 (UTC)
You can also purchase a Pokémon Storage Upgrade for 200 PokéCoins, so I really don't think this is a good argument. --SnorlaxMonster 07:47, 11 July 2016 (UTC)

Eevee evolution

People suggest that it depends on its special move; Body Slam is Jolteon; Swift is Vaporeon and Dig is Flareon. Unfortunately, I cannot test that. Eridanus (talk) 08:19, 11 July 2016 (UTC)

See #Eeveelutions above. --SnorlaxMonster 08:25, 11 July 2016 (UTC)

Team Descriptions

I would if I could... but the descriptions of each team/faction should be listed under the Pokémon GO#Teams header.

Here they are:

Instinct (Yellow)

"Hey! The name's Spark -- the leader of Team Instinct. Pokemon are creatures with excellent intuition. I bet the secret to their intuition is related to how they're hatched. Come and join my team! You never lose when you trust your instincts!"

Mystic (Blue)

"I am Blanche, leader of Team Mystic. The wisdom of Pokemon is immeasurably deep. I am researching why it is that they evolve. With our calm analysis of every situation, we can't lose!"

Valor (Red)

"I'm Candela -- Team Valor's leader! Pokemon are stronger than humans, and they're warmhearted, too! I'm researching ways to enhance Pokemon's natural power in the pursuit of true strength. There's no doubt that the Pokemon our team have trained at the strongest in battle! Are you ready?"

In the opening description about the teams, I think it would be good to mention that they are Professor Willow's research teams, each specializing in a certain area of Pokemon study. Usually, "team" in Pokemon refers to an organization/gang, so I feel it's something worth explaining for clarification. --Shinobi (talk) 03:56, 17 July 2016 (UTC)

The official Pokémon Go glossary has some images that are missing: http://imgur.com/a/bT3Cs Although, some of the images are not transparent... I don't know why, but wouldn't the official site have better images?

Combat Point calculation

In regards to combat points, or CP, research and a theory I'm developing will allow us to start quantifying the game much better. We should soon have modifiers for each Pokémon in the game, but we will likely have to do our own research, which will be difficult since randomness is implemented in the calculations. I don't think I can gather much data with my location, but I'd love to crunch numbers if anyone else wants to do a bunch of powerups on each species. Let me know what you guys think. - unsigned comment from PlatypusVenom (talkcontribs)

NA release date?

I don't get this, was Pokémon GO release in USA at the same time as Canada or is it not released there at all? Or was it released in USA at the 6 July and later in Canada? This is confusing because it said USA only on the page at first but then the USA only was removed. Was that because it was released in Canada or what? --Raltseye prata med mej 13:17, 13 July 2016 (UTC)

For consistency with other pages, the infobox lists the date of first availability within each region. The detailed, country-by-country breakdown is better served by prose than by the infobox. --Abcboy (talk) 13:58, 13 July 2016 (UTC)

Mystic Emblem is Wrong

The colors and the bottom of the hexagon are incorrect. Along with other things such as the curves of the feathers.

Here is a high quality version that uses the correct colors and hexagon: http://imgur.com/QCo3SFa

It is exported at 1,200 x 1,200 just like the other team's emblems. If you require the SVG, just leave a message on my talk page.

Cached Images

Since I cannot edit the main article, can someone change the size of the thumbnails of the team emblems? Right now, they are cached (on the CDN server) as the out-of date; fan-art versions at 50px. They are an eyesore, and I think that a more standard resolution of 48px or 64px would be more appropriate.

-- Thanks, Rmkane (talk) 14:55, 14 July 2016 (UTC) -- Rmkane (talk) 14:56, 14 July 2016 (UTC)

Can someone please update the cached images for the teams? The fan-art logos should not be appearing anymore. Updating the size of the images should create a new cached thumbnail. Thanks, Rmkane (talk) 18:21, 17 July 2016 (UTC)

The latest versions are showing up for me. Try purging your browser cache. --SnorlaxMonster 05:11, 18 July 2016 (UTC)

Well, I have tried four different browsers, and they are still using the incorrect thumbnail. This is not a browser cache issue. The CDN does not know that the image has been updated.

Fixed table, made thumbnail discrepancy more apparent. -- Rmkane (talk) 15:45, 18 July 2016 (UTC)

I can't really tell any difference between the thumbnails you have in the table above; it's hardly an eyesore. It'll be fine for about a month until it naturally ages out. We have a strict policy of not messing with image sizes solely to cheat these sorts of caching issues. Tiddlywinks (talk) 16:09, 18 July 2016 (UTC)

Gaining Experience

You can gain experience from visiting a pokestop, even if your bag is full. You appear to gain 50xp anytime you visit one and your bag is full.

I think that should be mentioned more explicitly in the table listing the ways of gaining xp, most likely attached to the 3 items or less case.

"Visit a PokéStop (3 items or less) 50" --> change to something like --> "Visit a PokéStop (3 items or less, including full bag) 50"

Ectropy (talk) 18:10, 14 July 2016 (UTC)

I think that's a good idea. I've made a change in that spirit. --SnorlaxMonster 03:51, 15 July 2016 (UTC)

Oh wait it may actually be possible to earn more than 50xp when spinning a poke stop if your bag is full. I just spun one and it appeared to give me 150xp. We may need to have people do some experimenting to figure out what exactly the behavior is. Ectropy (talk) 12:15, 15 July 2016 (UTC)

Release dates, Europe

Why does this article say that Pokémon GO will come out in France and Russian in 2016 and rest of Europe soon? What is the difference between soon and in 2016? --Raltseye prata med mej 10:59, 15 July 2016 (UTC)

The Pokemon.com sites in those languages specified a release date of 2016, while the official GO site and the other articles referenced only state "coming soon". The 2016 date is technically more specific than "soon", which is why it's noted for the relevant locations. --Abcboy (talk) 11:41, 15 July 2016 (UTC)

Skybunny (talk) 17:21, 15 July 2016 (UTC)

Player Levels?

Besides for bonus items and item unlocks. What do they do? - unsigned comment from Zage (talkcontribs)

Please add the Player's Guide at the top of the page

This page, which describes the general setup of Pokémon GO, and the Pokémon GO Player's Guide serve different purposes. Since, especially as this game is new, not all game mechanics are well explained by Niantic in any central place, much less in the game itself (but said mechanics don't really belong on this page), the player's guide should really be featured at the top of the page, probably as a disambiguation style remark. E.g. 'For specifics on how to play Pokémon GO, see the Pokémon GO Player's Guide. The Player's Guide should also be linked (or one of its subsections linked) when discussion becomes too specific for this page. Such as, 'For more about how Gym prestige works, see (...)'.

Thanks! Skybunny (talk) 17:16, 15 July 2016 (UTC)

We don't typically link to our walkthroughs from a game's main page. Doing so on this page would mean we'd have to do it on every other game's page, too. Which might not be a bad thing, but it would require Editorial Board approval... Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 15:50, 16 July 2016 (UTC)
We do link them in the "See also" section (as we do on this article), but since you seem to not have noticed it, maybe it's not prominent enough... However, for Pokémon GO, the guide is currently linked in the sitenotice, which should help people find it if they are looking for it. --SnorlaxMonster 17:00, 16 July 2016 (UTC)
Yeah, I definitely see your point, and I guess that's fair. What I was thinking of is an italicized note (that come to think of it, would be on all general game pages, yes), like the one in Template:PokémonPrevNextHead:
For specifics of the gameplay of \{\{PAGENAME\}\}, see the [[Appendix:{{{PAGENAME}}} Player's Guide]].
I'm not really strongly wedded to the idea, but if you think it's a good idea to have, maybe it is worth pushing up the chain. Best! Skybunny (talk) 19:32, 16 July 2016 (UTC)

On game publishers and developers

I'm not quite sure if I ever understood this, or if it's just a fuzzy definition per se. In general, here's what I believe:

  • The publisher is whoever releases the game, who manufactures it, ships it etc.
  • The developer is whoever makes the game, who programs it, who makes up the game concept (?), who tests it etc.

As a rule of thumb, publishers' names/trademarks can typically be found somewhere on the box of physical games, that of developers in the title screen in-game (plus, there may be overlaps). Now, apps aren't really shipped, so here, publishers are those listed as "developers" in the app stores (as crazy as it sounds). Developers are still who made the game, it's just that they are more likely also publishers.

That said, I trust Bulbapedia more than another billion article wiki (that lists Niantic as developer and The Pokémon Company as publisher) on that matter. So, could anyone clear that up for me? Cause from the app's title screens, I'd say developers are either Niantic+Pokémon, or Niantic+Pokémon+Nintendo+Creatures+Game Freak. (Also, I like how it's phrased in the opening paragraph.) Nescientist (talk) 11:24, 17 July 2016 (UTC)

Ok, seems to be tough. Well, could someone at least explain our current choice of publishers and/or developers? Nescientist (talk) 12:31, 24 July 2016 (UTC)
So, after discussion, the other billion article wiki now lists Niantic as both developer and publisher. I've changed the article accordingly, while still prominently stating that it's a collaboration in the opening paragraph. Nescientist (talk) 13:51, 28 July 2016 (UTC)

Game availability

We may want a separate section in this article distinguishing 'Countries in which it is possible to download the game' (released) and 'Countries in which it is possible to play the game at all', which as it turns out Niantic seems to be able to turn off on a geographic basis.

Niantic does not allow playing the game at all in South Korea, with the exception of the city of Sokcho, on the northeastern tip of the country. (Source: http://www.cnn.com/2016/07/22/asia/south-korea-pokemon-sokcho/ ). What I don't know is if this means Niantic simply turns off the ability to log in if your GPS is reported in a geographically blocked area, or if "there just aren't any gyms or Pokéstops in 'blocked areas'", which is probably a distinction worth researching. Also, if it's true in South Korea, it's probably true in other places. Skybunny (talk) 16:46, 26 July 2016 (UTC)

There just aren't any Gyms, PokéStops and Pokémon in the blocked areas.--PannenkoekenNL (talk) 07:50, 27 July 2016 (UTC)

Error moves

Prevously I added to Trivia sections of various articles where Pokemon in Pokemon Go were able to learn moves they couldn't in the main series, it was all removed. Since 20th August, however, Niantic have removed these moves from thos Pokemon and given them moves that they can learn in the main series which seems to suggest they thought them a mistake. Diamond Lanturn CodeName: 05308 09:28, 10 September 2016 (UTC)

These have already been noted on the Game move errors page, and the relevant parts are noted in the GO sections of the respective Pokemon/move page. While it is interesting, I don't think that it really needs additional trivia mentions (staff seems to think so too). VioletPumpkin (talk) 14:08, 10 September 2016 (UTC)

Japanese names in the opening sentence

Should we maybe not do that for GO-related articles (and by extension, for anything that doesn't originate in Japan), move it to "In other languages" where all other languages are? I agree that for most things on here, Japanese names are more canon somehow than any other language (and may have been mistranslated or lost some connotation), so they somehow "deserve" such prominent placement, but when the original language is English and everything is basically translated to Japanese, I believe maybe we shouldn't emphasize their Japanese names in the same way. Does it? That seems like an unfounded generalization--KnightGalarie (talk) 02:15, 11 May 2020 (UTC)
Well, it has all the Pokemon in Pokemon Go, all the Pokemon in Raids, every area specific Pokemon in Pokemon Go. Why shouldn't it have all the events that happen in Pokemon Go? Necrozma800 (talk) 16:46, 11 May 2020 (UTC)
Because its massive size is the purpose of spinning it off into the List of events in Pokémon GO page--KnightGalarie (talk) 16:47, 11 May 2020 (UTC)
So you're saying that there's a massive difference between the Pokemon and the events? I say the article should at least mention the fact that there's a ton of articles with a link, right? Necrozma800 (talk) 12:31, 12 May 2020 (UTC)
Read section 3--KnightGalarie (talk) 00:34, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
This tells me nothing.Necrozma800 (talk) 06:10, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
Section 3 is the Literally the part of the page that links to the list of events. --Spriteit (talk) 07:34, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
Well no wonder i couldnt really find it, the whle things one sentence with a link! Could you expand it more? Necrozma800 (talk) 15:07, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
You couldn’t find section 3 titled “Events” in a table of contents when you were looking for events?--KnightGalarie (talk) 15:09, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
It was hard to find. I'm kinda new here so I'm kinda comparing this to wikipedia. Necrozma800 (talk) 15:13, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
Wikipedia behaves the exact same way. Like how recent years in American television have debuted so many programs that the section on the page solely consists of a Main page line to the article listing that year’s television debuts--KnightGalarie (talk) 15:34, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
Huh. well I want to write in my userpage but i can't because i Have to appearently edit pages and thats gonna be hard since every part is always updated, ya know?Necrozma800 (talk) 15:40, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
And you can end up bringing the updates if you put your heart to it. Like when Remote Raid Passes were revealed, I made the redirect, added them to the Raid Pass page and a passage about them on the COVID-19 pandemic page as it related. You’ll get there, trust me--KnightGalarie (talk) 15:45, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
Yeah but I feel like I just don't know where to start. I feel like I know the PokeDex really well but since you guys litterally have every Pokedex entry in there it's hard to edit anything now.....wait You forgot Pokemon Go's entries!...wait i forgot they're just the recent Pokedex entries...Dang it! Necrozma800 (talk) 15:53, 14 May 2020 (UTC)

Obstagoon and Perrserker

They are not going to be in Pokemon Go due to different PokeDexes. Necrozma800 (talk) 02:13, 13 May 2020 (UTC)

Niantic have stated they’re going to be added and their data was added to the game code in the most recent update. So, yeah, they are. GloverMist (talk) 07:45, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
Then why not have all the evolutions in Pokemon Go. And what generation are they going to be in? Unknown? Necrozma800 (talk) 23:44, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
They’ll be the start of the Galar Pokemon integration. Obviously. Come on.--KnightGalarie (talk) 00:06, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
Well I know that. But if that's the case, will meltan and Melmetal finallybe in the Alolan Pokedex? Necrozma800 (talk) 06:03, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
What does that have to do with it?Necrozma800 (talk) 15:10, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
Well I'm just saying are they're going to be more Regional Pokedexes now that more evolutions are going to be added? Necrozma800 (talk) 06:31, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
None of us here are Niantic staff members. We'll have to wait and see. --Spriteit (talk) 07:34, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
Awww....Well are there going to be any other pokemon besides Obstagoon and Perrserker that are going to be in the game? Necrozma800 (talk) 15:10, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
Yeah, all Kanto to Hoenn Pokémon are. I think there’s some stragglers from Sinnoh and a good portion of Unova Pokémon still waiting. Kalos and Alola Pokémon still have to come through too. It’d be naive to assume they never come--KnightGalarie (talk) 15:15, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
Yeah, but I guess now they're going completly haywire and adding Galarian evolution while not following the pokedex. Guess they're getting them out of the way? But then again why aren't they put all the Galarian forms in with the evolutions, ya know? Necrozma800 (talk) 15:26, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
They added Alolan variants years before the wholly new native species could be added. You’re being overly exaggerating and acting as if they’re not going to do the things you’ve suggested unless you suggest them--KnightGalarie (talk) 15:32, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
Well still I think It's weird they're putting Obstagoon and Perserker despite them being Specifically only gen 8 pokemon. Necrozma800 (talk) 15:37, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
Except unlike Galarian Slowpoke in the Main series who currently sits standalone until whatever it evolves into is revealed, Obstagoon and Perrserker have already been revealed, so they might as well be made available with their Galarian preevolutions--KnightGalarie (talk) 15:45, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
Wel what about Galarian Farfetch'd and Sirfetch'd or Galarian Corsola and Cursola? They could technetically be in there too, right? Necrozma800 (talk) 15:48, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
At this point you’re not really listening, you’re just being impatient and anxious--KnightGalarie (talk) 15:49, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
Niantic adds new Pokémon over time. As another admin stated above, none of us here work at Niantic. Those Pokémon will more than likely be added at a later point in time, please be patient. Thank you. Frozen Fennec 15:50, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
Well I guess you're right. Hey by the way, Is there a page on here that deals with the mobile game of "Monster Carnival"? Necrozma800 (talk) 15:56, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
No. We are a Pokémon wiki, we don't cover non-Pokémon based apps or games unless there is a crossover event with Pokémon. Frozen Fennec 16:01, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
And for that matter, no unlicensed stuff that parades itself using actual Pokémon imagery and/or does so without actually having the Pokémon in the game--KnightGalarie (talk) 16:04, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
It kinda does both of that. It's a free to play game that has Pokemon in it and you can train and evolve it. The name is a bit misleading I know but it has Pokémon in it. Necrozma800 (talk) 16:08, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
So you’re saying it’s unlicensed and you’re only here to attempt to legitimize it by giving it this platform. This is not an advertisement service--KnightGalarie (talk) 16:10, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
Well I don't know if it's unlicensed, but there is a crossover with pokemon. It's basically a Pokemon game but .....roblox style. I thought you guys would have it since theres Pokémon in it.
If it was licensed it would be able to use the Pokémon name. It’s not a crossover, it’s a copyright infringement case--KnightGalarie (talk) 16:18, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
Well I can tell you it's not licensed, it uses Pokemon sprites up to 3D models, and its on the app store so is it illegal? Necrozma800 (talk) 16:21, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
Stop trying to give it legitimacy. Are you trying to drive up your edit count by prattling on?--KnightGalarie (talk) 16:23, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
Umm...no I'm just trying to see what I can do on here. T-T Necrozma800 (talk) 16:27, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
This conversation has gone entirely off-topic from the original question at this point. You both need to stop. Continued arguing on the talk page may lead to you both being temporarily being blocked from being able to edit pages. Please and thank you. Frozen Fennec 16:37, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
I told him to stop, he continued. I did nothing wrong. I am not responsible for Necrozma800’s stubbornness and his decision to change topic-KnightGalarie (talk) 16:42, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
You continued responding to him regardless, that counts as arguing. Please just drop it and move on, thanks. Frozen Fennec 16:48, 14 May 2020 (UTC)

Banned Names on Pokemon GO

Apparently P. Klang is an inappropriate name on Pokemon Go. I don't know what to do with this info so I'll leave it up to you. Necrozma800 (talk) 22:46, 30 June 2020 (UTC)

Pokédex Entries from Pokémon GO on Bulbapedia?

Should Bulbapedia have a separate area for each Pokémon's Pokédex entries, like in the area where one can see its Pokémon GO stats or up with Pokédex entries from other games? I would think it could be a nice edition to each Pokémon page to have their Pokémon GO Pokédex entry.
Gallade User 22:22, 9 December 2020 (UTC)

Apparently the game's being suspended in Russia.

Is this worth putting in trivia, if not someplace else? ¿¡Unowninator?! (talk) 16:25, 11 March 2022 (UTC)

The release section works. glikglak 17:20, 11 March 2022 (UTC)
Alright then, thanks. ¿¡Unowninator?! (talk) 18:03, 11 March 2022 (UTC)

Load screens broken pictures

The load screens sections have broken pictures for the last 14 or so versions, starting with the Christmas of 2019 load screen. --Neos (talk) 18:58, 5 July 2022 (UTC)

Routes

since last week Pokémon GO implemented a new Gameplay feature called Routes, we need to add that mechanic into the article, and since a year ago half the load screens in the gallery are broken starting with Christmas of 2019. --Neos (talk) 18:49, 1 August 2023 (UTC)
