The article says that Nintendo changed Jynx's design for Ruby/Sapphire. But... um... is it just me or did Gold/Silver already have the redesigned Jynx? Her lips are smaller, her face and hands are purple, and her arms are white, just like the redesigned version.

I think these sections need a major overhaul. They have a very biased tone. Whoever wrote them seems determined to leave the reader with the idea that Jynx is a racist steryotype and that other ideas are less valid. I'd rewrite it myself but I thought i should give some warning before such a major edit.[[User:Bug Catcher Wade|<span style="color: Purple;">'''Bug Catcher Wade'''</span>]] 06:58, 15 August 2010 (UTC)

== Jynx Origin stuff. also Dress is based on theater curtains? ==
I was checking in on this fat lady origin; its kind of cool and I never gave it much thought.
Anyways, should some mention be made about how Jynx is (ironically?) part ice, and that the character she may be based on (to some degree) dies by riding a horse into fire?
I mean, it kinda makes sense considering Ice types are week against fire, and not to sound racist or insensitive...but obviously you'd have blackened skin if you went into a fire.
Also, is it too opinionated to say that her red dress is like Curtains like at the Opera or any stage theater? Theater curtains are almost always depicted as Red.
I've seen blue, gold, silver and white used as the color of the Opera singer's costume in depictions of the fat lady singing, or the opera she hails from. So i don't think the choice for Jynx having a red dress was completely based on one depiction if any. (playing devils advocate, am not ripping on the fat lady singing thing) but the point is that her dress carries a likeness to curtains. In Pokemon Silver Edition, I caught several male Jynx. So, umm, is this just going by Red/Blue/Yellow standards? -- Kektklik 12:51, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

That sounds an awful lot like a glitch or a hack -- did you buy your game second-hand, or ever use a gameshark? Or maybe you game was a bootleg? Manga-in-a-bottle 13:13, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
I know I didn't find any males in Gold. (And I spent a while looking since I didn't know they were only female back then.) --FabuVinny T-C-S 15:12, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
I did buy it used, but I started a new game over the one that was already present. Kektklik 03:37, 19 April 2010 (UTC)

Jynx's Feet

This point probably isn't important but in EP090 (Stage Fight) Jynx is shown to have hairy feet - you can see them near the end of the episode when all of the Pokémon are dancing, kicking their legs/feet. Can this be confirmed? --Woodland:M 21:15, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

It does have feet, big ones too, but not hairy--KukiTalk 21:24, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

It doesn't really matter that they're not hairy, but that's the only time Jynx has been shown to have feet when it's generally accepted that Jynx doesn't have any. It's not really a big point but it should probably be added to its physiology unless it's a mistake --Woodland:M 22:22, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

Redesign Date

The article says that Nintendo changed Jynx's design for Ruby/Sapphire. But... um... is it just me or did Gold/Silver already have the redesigned Jynx? Her lips are smaller, her face and hands are purple, and her arms are white, just like the redesigned version. - unsigned comment from Razzia (talkcontribs)

Mean With Envy

From the controversy section: "This change was not reflected in the anime until much later, when Jynx appeared in Mean With Envy, an episode which could not be cut from airing due to its importance to the plot of the Advanced Generation series. Though appearing as black in the original Japanese, Jynx was recolored in the dub, causing a delay in the airing of the episode. Jynx has appeared since using its new design with no problems."

I don't watch the Japanese episodes, but wasn't she was purple in the Japanese version of that episode too? I remember people being very annoyed that the episodes aired late BECAUSE Jynx had already been fixed in them, even in the original airing, and Serebii also has pictures of the Japanese version of the episode and she's purple in them too. - unsigned comment from Razzia (talkcontribs)

This is correct, here are pics from the Japanese airing, Jynx is clearly purple. Someone please change this. --HoennMaster 00:46, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

Vandalism?

Orgin

Um....I know this will probably be taken as my opinion only by the more extremist of the community, but i'll say it anyways.

Wouldn't some of Jynx be based on "the fat lady?" You know the one with a horned hat, spear, sheild and a golden chest plate you see in Opera? I'm pretty sure its singing has been mentioned somewhere, and it appears to be animated singing in its Emerald sprite. Its FR/LG Sprite seems to take a singing stance.

color-wall-st-fat-ldy-web.jpg

that picture ain't pretty but it should convey the point. Yami 22:53, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

I believe the word you're looking for is "Valkyrie". --Psyライダー 22:55, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, the opera character is a Valkyrie if I read right. I changed the picture to something a little more pleasant. Its just I've kind of always put the two together, even as a kid. I'm surprised there was no mention of such a thing in Jynx origin. Many focus on the it being from a Japanese trend, or go to the racist thing and might over look the other things it could originate from. Yami 23:04, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
Should I add the info on it possibly being based in some part on the "fat lady" aka Valkyrie Brünhilde? Or would that seem to opinionated/need some kind of pain in the butt citation? From experience I know a article could be full of uncited and/or opinionated things, but when I come around I get confronted and told off. I think this would be a welcomed addition, and might level out some of the negative origin. Yami 23:30, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
The problem I can see with it is simply this: would it be reasonable to believe that Jynx is based off of them? I'm not familiar with Japan, so the main question is whether they're well-known over there; enough so to be the origin for a Pokémon. The Dark Fiddler - You enter a poorly lit room... 23:53, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
I don't see why they wouldn't know of the Fat lady or the reference pretending to her in Opera and in cartoons. You have to remember that before the US had any influence in japan it was Europe mostly. I think the school girl uniforms are based on British sailor uniforms if I remember right. Then you have to take into account the Japanese love for Disney. DBZ which was made in the late 80's early 90's had three characters based on the Cinderella song "Bibidi Babadi Boo." Also I think Bugs Bunny has crossed over there in his 50+ years along with the other Looney Tunes. If Disney never made a reference to the Fat lady then Looney Tunes would defiantly be the next best bet. Opera started in Italy if I am correct, and we can all think of two Italians that came from Japan and made Nintendo lots of money. If Nintendo could bank on Italian Plumbers as a mascot for a multi-billion dollar company, I'm sure they have been influenced by western culture. Yami 00:36, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
So....would there be any objections if i add this? I just don't want to add the info then have to fight for it tooth and nail with someone wanting citations or anything. I've had plenty of experience with that, mostly on wikipedia but it is still a pain.
I'm still thinking of how to word it so the addition might not be done right away. I'm not sure if Valkyrie would be too vague or generic, or if the addition should be blunt and say Jynx appearance and behavior (look at the game sprite(s) in later gens) may be based of the stereotypical Fat lady that sings. Yami 16:11, 21 November 2009 (UTC)
Regular Wikipedia claims that Jynx's design was based on a blackface design; more specifically, it looks like a Golliwog, a rather racist doll depicting a black person. I understand the Valkyrie business, but since the U.S. version banned an episode because Jynx was black instead of purple, I think it's worthy of being mentioned in the article. Native Region

Jynx is not available in the Kanto region except through the trade in Cerulean City, should it be noted that perhaps Jynx may not be native to Kanto? --- Convoy

In HGSS, Jynx can be caught in Seafoam Islands. While it may have been imported there, or have migrated there, it would be speculation to say that it isn't from Kanto. This goes against Bulbapedia policy. `—darklordtrom 09:08, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

Possible name trivia

Is it worth noting that, if "y" is not counted, Jynx has no vowels in its name (and is the only Pokémon for which this is true)? --Jared 20:59, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

But that's just the thing.. "Y" is sometimes a vowel. There are even words in English that have "w" being the vowel. Kektklik 03:39, 19 April 2010 (UTC)

Racial stereotype?

Personally I disagree with Carole Wethorfords opinion. Jynx is tinted purple, not brown. The original desighn was jet black, not brown. Is black magic racist? Are shadows racist? Are black cats racist? If so than she would have alot of problems with fiction. Second, Jynx has blonde hair. The only blondes I know are caucasions. Wethorforde must have a lot of problems with evil.- unsigned comment from SeanWheeler (talkcontribs)

That may all be, but doesn't change the fact there was controversy about that Pokémon. This is, quite frankly, not the page to discuss whether the controversy was justified, the most you could discuss whether it belongs into the article.--Afrael 18:02, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
