Magical Taruruuto-Kun connection?
So, apparently, in the 1992 Sega Genesis/Mega Drive video game Magical Taruruuto-Kun (based on the Egawa manga and anime of the same name), there is an enemy that bears a very close resemblance to Flabebe.
Normally, that would be chalked up to mere coincidence, but there's one very interesting fact about that game that just changes everything. Before Game Freak made Pokemon, they made a lot of games, including some based on existing properties. Turns out, one of those games just so happens to be the Sega Genesis version of Magical Taruruuto-kun (keep in mind that Game Freak only developed the Sega Genesis version. Any other games for other consoles that share a similar name, including the Game Boy, Game Gear, Famicom, Super Famicom, etc. versions, were outsourced to different companies). The end credits of the game show that several soon-to-be regular Pokemon staff members, including Pokemon designer Ken Sugimori, lent a hand in the development of Magical Taruruuto-kun. Perhaps Sugimori designed Flabebe after his previous experiences in the video game industry, only changed it up a bit to avoid lawsuits from Sega, Tatsuya Egawa, Shueisha or Toei Animation? It's definitely not the only time that a Pokemon was inspired by a previous non-Pokemon Game Freak video game, as some inspirations for Pokemon designs can be found in Smart Ball and Pulseman also, though that is a different story. --Fergzilla (talk) 00:04, 18 November 2013 (UTC)

It's pretty obvious Flabébé's name is a combination flower and bébé. The a in Flabébé is probably derived from フラワー (i know its technically flower, but hepburn renders it as something along the lines of furawā). --The Truth aka Relicant 17:31, 6 December 2013 (UTC)

Species

It's species is the Lone Flower Pokémon. MasterZ (talk) 19:08, 14 June 2013 (UTC)

Size

It's size is 0.1 meters. Which when converted to inches/feet comes out rounded up to 4 inches. - unsigned comment from Hero11 (talkcontribs)

Origin

It appears to be based on fairies, pixies, and sprites, as well as the idea of pollination. Also, the fact that it lives and dies with the flower, could be a reference to dyrads and their trees. CoolDudeAl (talk) 19:01, 12 June 2013 (UTC)

I think some more or less obvious sources of inspiration are Tinkerbell and Thumbelina as they are both associated with flowers. Also, I think there is such a thing as tulip fairies but I'm not sure. - unsigned comment from Fredhigh (talkcontribs)
It could also be based off of a Fairy Ring. Dialgafan1 (talk) 16:18, 14 June 2013 (UTC)
Is there perhaps, at least a possibility, that part of its inspiration could be drawn from a bee, as it is on top of a flower, is small, has growths from its head resembling insect wings, possesses what may represent a small proboscis, and has a small stinger-like lobe dangling from its abdomen. Plus, it is also roughly the shape of a generic bee. I doubt this is its only inspiration, as I do believe Dialgafan1, Fredhigh, and CoolDudeAl have all brought up interesting origin points, however, I still feel that it may be based, at least in some part, off a generic bee.--ShinyPatch (talk) 20:54, 1 July 2013 (UTC)

It's a fair point, and as I said it at the very least represents pollination (which bees participate in), so bees could of been a partial inspiration. CoolDudeAl (talk) 05:50, 9 August 2013 (UTC)

I just saw a plant called the Orchis Italica, or the Naked Man Orchid, and apparently it's known as a fairy trap...? Maybe that could be an inspiration for Flabebe » £ilurα -τ- -¢- 17:47, 6 September 2013 (UTC)

height and weight

the height and weight have already been confirmed. Add them already! 0danmaster0 (talk) 19:38, 12 June 2013 (UTC)

name

Could "bebe" from his name come from the japanese transliteration of the english word "baby"? Bêbê is also baby in Portuguese and Bebé is baby in Spanish.I guess it have a kinda baby-like appearence... - User:Ishlishl

"Flower" (フラワー furawā) and bébé (French for "baby"), I'd wager.—urutapu (talk) 22:59, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
I think it's safe to say it's from French "bébé", seeing that everything else in this game is based on France. q~Bisumito~p 04:43, 27 July 2013 (UTC)

English name confirmed. "Flabébé." I wonder what is it's name origin though. -user:구미호 the Ninetales 12:24, 13 June 2013 (UTC)

Is it worth mentioning in the Trivia section that this is the first English Pokémon name containing a letter with diacritics? Kikugi (talk) 13:23, 14 June 2013 (UTC)

Height and weight

It is the smallest and lightest Pkmn in the same time, whereas Gastly+Haunter are only the lightest and Joltic is the smallest. Do you get what I want to say, isn't this Trivia worthy? Rajjoaby (talk) 10:33, 14 June 2013 (UTC)

Making it the tiniest Pokemon? I highly doubt gen IV will introduce any smaller Pokemon Acellutor (talk) 11:10, 14 July 2013 (UTC).

Additional things we can note

We can note that the flowers carried by Flabebe are not all visually the same, and in trivia we can note this is the first Pokemon to have accent marks in it's name. - unsigned comment from CoolDudeAl (talkcontribs)

I could be mistaken, but

Unless I'm missing something, Flabébé might be the only Pokémon so far whose English name uses any sort of accented letter. Schiffy (Speak to me|What I've done) 16:15, 14 June 2013 (UTC)

With loads of new information on Generation 6 being introduced, more important things are being focused on right now. Perhaps once things settle down, there may be more time to add such trivia to the articles. --Landfish7 16:19, 14 June 2013 (UTC)
@Landfish7 That response did nothing to address the question being asked and was borderline rude. @Schiffy Yes, that is the only Pokémon with an accented letter, I'll add the trivia now. --Pokemaster97 19:44, 14 June 2013 (UTC)
I apologize for coming off as rude. @Schify Yes, Flabébé is the only Pokémon whose English name uses any sort of diacritical mark. I just wanted to be sure you understood that trivia is not a main priority on this wiki, and while trivia can be fun, it should not be prioritized over edits that will improve an article content-wise, or orthographically. --Landfish7 20:08, 14 June 2013 (UTC)
Don't worry Landfish, I didn't perceive it as rude at all. I understand that it's not the top priority for a brand new Pokémon, but I figured it might be noteworthy to bring up for someone to add when they get the chance. Schiffy (Speak to me|What I've done) 20:47, 14 June 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for understanding. Happy editing! --Landfish7 21:03, 14 June 2013 (UTC)

Color?

Is it true that one can encounter different colored flabébé with different colored flowers? Mesuxelf 18:50, 14 June 2013 (UTC)

We haven't seen any examples of it so far, so it may just be dex entry fodder. Time will tell if Flabebe's got any variation in flower color. Luna Tiger * the Arc Toraph 19:04, 14 June 2013 (UTC)

Behavior

Flabébé searches for a flower early in its life. It will then care for and protect this flower with life. It draws energy out of its flower that it uses in its attacks. Pokeprof1 (talk) 05:00, 5 July 2013 (UTC)
