Article states that "This attack can achieve up to 412.5 Base Power if powered up with Lickilicky's STAB and a Silk Scarf." Silk Scarf only boosts by 20% in Generation IV, as I recall. Does Life Orb (30% boost) not affect the power of Explosion because of the inability to remove HP? --<span style="color:#A000DF">Zukiedo</span> <small>(<span style="color:#00A0DF">Talk</span>)</small> 05:12, 24 February 2010 (UTC)

If an ability like Pure Power were Skill Swapped onto a Lickilicky holding a Silk Scarf, surely it would do even more damage? And would this be worth adding to the section about the maximum possible damage? Mattachu 15:41:45, 04 May 2010 (UTC)

:I don't think so, since that bit is more about move modifiers than ATK modifiers. Explosion would do even more damage with +6 ATK and -6 foe DEF, but that doesn't seem very noteworthy to me.

Max Damage
I used Pokemon.marriland's calculator with a lv100 golem against a lv100 chansey:
That attack will do between 2337 and 2749 damage!Ashclaw
:That's nowhere near the maximum damage this move can do. The maximum is 19476 damage. That's when it's used by a level 100 Lickilicky with an Attack IV of 31, 252 Attack EVs, a nature beneficial to Attack, holding a Silk Scarf uses Explosion on a level 1 Chansey with a Defense IV of 0 and a nature that lowers Defense hits for a critical hit the with the highest random number generated. However, we won't be mentioning it in the article. The maximum damage award goes to Rollout. --<span style="color:#A70000">Snorlax</span><span style="color:#0000A7">Monster</span> 08:50, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

Strongest move?
I know that under optimal circumstances (abilities, natures, held items, weather, etc.), lots of moves are more powerful.  But is it still worth mentioning it has the highest unmodified power of any move, or has that changed? --KingStarscream (talk) 14:43, 17 May 2013 (UTC)

Revision as of 14:45, 17 May 2013

Should we add the fact that only two Pokémon can get STAB from this move - Lickilicky and Smeargle? (I think so, anyway.) 281Tinaδ281 03:17, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

  • So you're implying that due to STAB, Explosion will do 1000 damage, right? ht14 22:25, April 11, 2008 (GMT)
    • No, the STAB would make it 750, not 1000, as the STAB multiplier is 1.5x not 2x.--Wikifixer 15:45, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
      • The STAB boosts the Base Power from 250 to 375, Silk Scarf further boosts it to 412.5, and i don't know how that translates into actual battle damage, but 412.5 BP sounds brill to me. Though a Blaze/Overgrowth Fire/Grass Type with Overheat/Leaf Storm and a Charcoal/Miracle Seed does more I think... like 600+ or something. user:494alex 23:19, May 13th, 2009 (GMT)
        • I really think what keeps the record is Sunshine+STAB+Flash Fire+Choice Specs(+Heatran's Sp. Atk)+Overheat keeps the record. BP with all those multipliers is 1.5*1.5*1.5*1.5*140=708.75, and combined with Heatran, it's really terrible.

Focus Sash

Does the Focus Sash save a Pokémon from fainting when it uses Explosion? Zesty Cactus 04:50, 22 July 2009 (UTC)

Yes of course it does. Stop posting this on every page. —darklordtrom 20:44, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
Are you sure? I'm pretty sure he means the user of explosion and that wouldnt make much sense to me. Dexington 22:00, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
Focus Sash does not prevent it from fainting...Forretress killed Abra along with itself...--PsychicRider 22:14, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
Dexington's right, I meant "does it protect the USER of Explosion", I guess I should have made that clearer. Thanks guys.Zesty Cactus 02:27, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

Both trainers on their last Pokemon

If both trainers are on their last pokemon, and one uses Explosion/Selfdestruct, knocking the other out, who wins? In the following situations:

  • In-game, the player's last pokemon uses Explosion/Self destruct and knocks out a wild pokemon.
  • In-game, the player's last pokemon uses Explosion/Selfdestruct and knocks out an NPC trainer's last pokemon.
  • In-game, a wild pokemon uses Explosion/Selfdestruct and knocks out the player's last pokemon.
  • In-game, an NPC trainer's last pokemon uses Explosion/Selfdestruct and knocks out the player's last pokemon.
  • Over the GTS/link cable, one player's last pokemon uses Explosion/Selfdestruct and knocks out the other player's last pokemon.

- unsigned comment from The Void (talkcontribs)

  • Both die, no EXP given (unless the EXP share is on a different Pokémon)
  • Both die, it counts as the player losing the battle and blacks out
  • Both die, the player blacks out
  • Both die, it counts as the player losing the battle and blacks out
  • I haven't tried this, but I imagine it's a tie game

Stunky/Skuntank

Actually, the part about Stunky and Skuntank exploding - which was recently removed - is true. It happened to me, at least. "Skuntank would like to join your team. <No> Skuntank exploded. Skuntank went away." I think it's like that for Pokémon with the Aftermath ability. Needs confirmation, though. FireMeowth 20:10, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

Life Orb
