Talk:Ambush encounter

Alright guys, I have started to work on this page, but I have some questions:

1. In some location pages, the clouds that Alolan Diglett and other Pokémon appear in are called "dust clouds", while in others they are called "dirt clouds". Which one should be used in this page?

2. The Pokémon that dart out of dens in Verdant Cavern aren't identified as being ambush encounters in the Verdant Cavern page, however aren't they the same thing as the dust/dirt clouds except they happen at specific locations?

3. In the Haina Desert page, the ambush encounters are identified as "sand clouds", however, they work the same way as the dust/dirt clouds and the name "sand clouds" is also given to the encounters in Hano Beach, which work differently. What should be done in this case?

4. Should the bubbling fishing spots be included in this page? They aren't ambushes, but they work similiarly to the rippling water from Gen. V and I don't think they deserve their own page.

To answer your questions:

1. Does the official guide book give a proper name for it? If so, we should use that name. For now, we can list it under dirt, as that makes more sense to me.

2. They should be classed as ambush encounters. They stop you and attack you without fail when walking past.

3. Again, official guide book should help clear this up.

4. As for this, nope. The bubbling should be listed on the Fishing page under Generation 7.

Other suggestions I have: Separate Gen 6 and 7. Also, missing several Gen 7 encounters, from Lush Jungle comes to mind. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 18:23, 24 December 2016 (UTC)

As far as I'm concerned, "ambush encounters" are based on a very specific mechanic: after a battle, they may drop an item. This means that, no, fishing is not an ambush encounter; and neither is Gen VI stuff that looks similar.

I've also fixed all the pages to be consistent with the guide's divisions (which lists 8 kinds). Haina Desert's ambush encounters aren't the same as dirt clouds like in Diglett's Tunnel, though; they do look like Hano Beach. It'd be easy to miss, so you should also note that the pre-Totem Pokemon in the Vast Poni Canyon trial site are another ambush encounter (which is kind of different from any of the 8 in the guide). Thanks for the answers. I know I'm missing some stuff, don't worry, I went through all Gen VI and VII pages and made a list. And thanks Tiddlywinks for fixing the pages. But I think the Gen VI stuff should be here. Like, the shaking bushes for example, work the same way in X/Y and Sun/Moon, the only difference are the items. But this doesn't mean it isn't the same, it's just that the mechanic was updated. But that's just how I see it, I don't have the X/Y guidebook, so I don't know what the Gen VI encounters are called there. TepiGreninja (talk) 17:41, 26 December 2016 (UTC)

Pokémon X & Pokémon Y: The Official Kalos Region Guidebook (page 23) lists "Special places where wild Pokémon appear", and has "Ambush (bushes)", "Trash Cans", "Ambush (cave)", "Ambush (sky)", and "Cracked Rocks". In that case, I'd be comfortable including the bushes/cave/sky ones here. I can see why the trash cans might be separated, but I could also be okay with including those specially. Breaking rocks

Do you mean Pokémon found by using Rock Smash? If that's the case, no. There are rocks you can break with Tauros in Sun/Moon but as far as I'm aware they only have items, not Pokémon. TepiGreninja (talk) 15:34, 20 January 2017 (UTC)

I doubt so, this article describes situations when a Pokémon attacks you from some spot similar to phenomena in Gen V. What you're talking about seems more similar to headbutting trees to me. Kikugi (talk) 20:44, 20 January 2017 (UTC)

Actually, I think that perhaps it could be added based on what Tiddlywinks mentioned above on The Official Kalos Region Guidebook. It might have been mistaken on it occurring in X and Y, but it does claim that it is special place to find Pokémon like the others in Gen VI and the encounters are surprise encounters. --Super goku (talk) 20:52, 20 January 2017 (UTC)

Separating Gen 6 and 7

I feel that Generation 6 and 7 should be separated, so, there's a Generation 6 Header, followed by the ambush encounters in that generation, then Generation 7 followed by the ambush encounters.
