Name

What was the reasoning behind the name change? ほうじょう (豊穣) only translates to "fertility." Moreover, it makes much more sense than "honor," especially given that Randorosu is known as the Fertility Pokémon. Kamen no Otoko 01:22, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

I was playing by "Kanji-mode". I remember "豊穣の社". I cannot reconfirm it because I have sold it off.
However, it seems to be able to confirm appropriate kanji on the information site in Japan. [[1]][[2]][[3]]Sawamular101 18:59, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
I am playing in kanji mode as well, but it just appears as ほうじょうの社 on the town map.
リンクのご提供、ありがとうございます。名前の漢字は、恐らく書いてある通りだと思いますが。Kamen no Otoko 19:11, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
It is memorized that kanji turned out in signboard or person's dialog. I'm sorry it is useless. Sawamular101 19:14, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
なるほど。まだ入っていないのでゲーム内のどこかで書いてあるか、自分ではまだ確かめていません。Kamen no Otoko 19:18, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
My misunderstanding it came to light.
場所の説明文「かつては 人が 暮らしていた 村で今も 当時の 空気が 流れる」
NPCのセリフ「この 土地は ランドロス様に守られて おるからのう 豊かな 土と 多くの 実りを 約束されて おるのじゃ あんたも ランドロス様の ほこらに あいさつしていくがええ」
Kanji is not explained. The dialog to associate is only described. Sawamular101 19:38, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
そういうことですかね。セリフまで書いて頂き、ありがとうございます。そのセリフを読むと、確かに「豊穣」だと思わざるを得ません。Kamen no Otoko 19:48, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
So is Honor Shine a valid translation? Or is Fertility Shine better? --SnorlaxMonster 10:27, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
Well, "Honor" has absolutely no relation to the original Japanese name: as I mentioned, ほうじょう (豊穣) only translates to "fertility" in the sense of a bountiful harvest. Far from valid, I would call "Honor Shrine" a completely arbitrary name that someone thought sounded "cool." Kamen no Otoko 14:01, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

Even if it did translate to that, it would likely be spelled "Honour" (the more used global spelling Wikipedia seems to prefer). So if the name change goes ahead, will we need to create redirects for "Honour Shrine" & "Honor Shrine"? Vuvuzela2010 11:22, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

Bulbapedia uses American spellings. A redirect from the page you move it from is automatically created, so "Honor Shine" would be made by moving the page. I'll make the other one now. --SnorlaxMonster 11:32, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
To clarify: Bulbapedia uses American spellings because the games, anime, etc. are all dubbed in the US. Wikipedia just uses the native language of the person who created the page. Apparently, a Briton/Commonwealther created the "Honour" article linked above. —darklordtrom 07:04, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
Also, in response to SnorlaxMonster's recent addition of the "move" tag, I thought I might reiterate that I am still in favor of moving the page to "Fertility Shrine"--or, at the very least, something less abhorrent than "Honor Shrine." Kamen no Otoko 04:34, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
Well, from my perspective "fertility" sounds a bit awkward. Maybe something like "Good Harvest Shrine"? (And Landlos can be named the "Good Harvest Pokémon".) ...assuming we're trying to go for more accurate translations instead of taking a creative license here. ~ solaris 04:42, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
I agree that "fertility" seems a bit awkward, but if "honor" isn't a valid translation, we should move this elsewhere ASAP. "Good Harvest Shrine" seems good. --SnorlaxMonster 12:31, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

I think Fertility sounds better. If the Japanese name has absolutely nothing to do with honor then why is it called this??? Seems obvious to me. Although Fertility isn't completely correct, as one said above "Good Harvest" shrine, which just sounds naff and is a mouthful too. Perhaps "Bountiful"? Fertility sounds a bit misleading actually. I thought it would be a place about Pokémon eggs? (CaptainSootball 09:36, 24 December 2010 (UTC))

FWIW, Serebii is reporting the official English name as "Abundant Shrine." I can definitely live with that. I'm just happy to be finally rid of this abhorrent "Honor Shrine" nonsense. \(^^)/ Kamen no Otoko 13:24, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
