Strength Sap lowers the target's {{stat|Attack}} stat by one stage, then restores the user's HP by the same amount as the target's effective {{stat|Attack}} stat before Strength Sap was used. The Attack stat considered is adjusted by stat stages, but not the Attack stat stage change just inflicted.

Strength Sap (Japanese: ちからをすいとる Strength Sap) is a non-damaging Grass-type move introduced in Generation VII.

Effect

Strength Sap lowers the target's Attack stat by one stage, and restores the user's HP by an amount equal to target's effective Attack stat before Strength Sap was used (taking any stat stages into account).

Strength Sap fails if the target already has -6 Attack stat stages. Strength Sap does not fail if the target has +6 Attack stat stages and Contrary, or otherwise cannot have its Attack stat lowered (such as due to being protected by Mist or having Hyper Cutter), still restoring HP in that case. Strength Sap does not fail if the user of Strength Sap has full HP, still lowing the target's Attack in that case.

If the user is holding a Big Root, Strength Sap recovers 30% more HP. If the target has the Ability Liquid Ooze, the user will lose the amount of HP it would have gained instead.

If powered up by a Grassium Z into Z-Strength Sap, the user's Defense stat rises one stage.
