Sludge (Japanese: ヘドロこうげき Sludge Stream) is a damage-dealing Template:Type2 move introduced in Generation I.
Sludge does damage and has a 29.7% chance of poisoning the target. Sludge cannot poison a target that has a Substitute or already has a major status ailment.
Generation II and on
Same as Generation I, though with a 30% chance of poisoning non-Template:Type2s instead.
In the anime
Koffing: Koffing spews sludge at its opponent.
Horsea: Horsea squirts sludge from its mouth.
- Sludge is one of very few moves that only Pokémon of its type (with no secondary type) can learn. All Pokémon that learn Sludge are pure Poison-types.
