The Skull Fossil (Japanese: ずがいのカセキ Skull Fossil) and Armor Fossil (たてのカセキ Shield Fossil) are fossils from the Generation IV games.

The Skull Fossil can be regenerated into a Cranidos, and the Armor Fossil can be regenerated into an Shieldon.

The fossils can be revived by turning them in at a Scientist in the Oreburgh City museum.

Unlike previous games, where only one fossil would be available, but would be chosen from a set of two, in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, they are game-specific. Only players of Diamond can get Skull Fossils, and only players of Pearl can get Armor Fossils. In Platinum, only one or the other will be found based on the last digit of the player's Trainer ID number. An odd number (1, 3, 5, 7 and 9) will only generate Skull Fossils, while an even number (0, 2, 4, 6 and 8) will only generate Armor Fossils. However, there are unlimited amounts of them now found in the Sinnoh Underground, so players can trade revived Pokémon, or even the fossils themselves, to their friends without losing the chance to have them.

After unlocking the National Pokédex, players can also find the Root, Claw, Dome, and Helix Fossils and the Old Amber by digging in the Underground.
