If starting from the eastern end of the route, those wishing to cross Route 226 must first make their way through a brief patch of tall grass. Surfing around a few rocks, players will soon encounter the Meister's house. He is a multilingual traveler who lives alone in a house on a small island. Inside Meister's house, the player may trade a Finneon for a Magikarp. This apparently unfair trade will unlock the multilingual Pokédex entries option, as the Meister's Pokémon is German in origin. In , the Pokémon and language lists are limited, but from Platinum, all Pokémon are supported by this feature.

Trivia
Trivia
* If the player's party contains no Pokémon other than Finneon that can learn Surf or Fly and lacks a Pokémon with Teleport, trading away Finneon to Meister can effectively strand the player until Magikarp evolves and can learn Surf or faints in a battle, instantly taking the player back to a Pokémon Center. If the player has managed to progress to this point without obtaining any fishing rods, and does not have enough Rare Candies to make Magikarp evolve (or cancels evolution), or trades a Level 100 Finneon, they will be stuck on Meister's island permanently.
* It is possible for the player to become stranded on the Meister's island after trading with him. This can only happen if the player's Finneon is the sole Pokémon in their party able to learn Surf (which is used to reach the island) while no Pokémon in the party can learn Fly or Teleport. Once the Meister's Magikarp has been received, the player no longer can access a field move to leave the island; ways out include using Vitamin to evolve Magikarp into Gyarados who can learn Surf, fish for battles and catch a Pokémon who can learn Surf, use said battles to give Magikarp enough experience to evolve, or deliberately use said battles to cause all the player's Pokémon to faint, returning them to the last Pokémon Center. However, it is possible to block off all of these methods as well: the player can progress through the game without being required to pick up any fishing rods, and the player can reach the island with no Poké Balls or Rare Candies in their Bag. Since Finneon requires a Fishing to catch in-game, this setup requires receiving Finneon via a trade from another game. With all of this, if the player saves the game here, they can never leave the island.
** However, to have gotten the Finneon without getting fishing rods, one must trade with another game to access this Finneon, as it is only available via fishing.

Route 226 (Japanese: 226ばんすいどう Water Route 226) is a water route in northeastern Sinnoh, located in the Battle Zone. It connects the Survival Area, Route 227 and Route 228.

Route description

If starting from the eastern end of the route, those wishing to cross Route 226 must first make their way through a brief patch of tall grass. Surfing around a few rocks, players will soon encounter the Meister's house. He is a multilingual traveler who lives alone in a house on a small island. Inside his house, the player may trade a Finneon for a Magikarp. This apparently unfair trade will unlock the Foreign Pokédex entries option, as the Meister's Pokémon is German in origin. Certain Pokémon, once imported from non-English games, will display their Pokédex entries in the language of the game in which they were originally caught. In Diamond and Pearl, the Pokémon and language lists are limited, but in Platinum, all Pokémon are supported by this feature.

The remainder of the route is simplistic in nature. There are a few Trainers with high-leveled Pokémon, and many wild Pokémon on both land and in the water. Rock Climb is required in order to access the upper area of the Survival Area.

Trivia

 • It is possible for the player to become stranded on the Meister's island after trading with him. This can only happen if the player's Finneon is the sole Pokémon in their party able to learn Surf (which is used to reach the island) while no Pokémon in the party can learn Fly or Teleport. Once the Meister's Magikarp has been received, the player no longer can access a field move to leave the island; ways out include using Rare Candies to evolve Magikarp into Gyarados who can learn Surf, fish for battles and catch a Pokémon who can learn Surf, use said battles to give Magikarp enough experience to evolve, or deliberately use said battles to cause all the player's Pokémon to faint, returning them to the last Pokémon Center. However, it is possible to block off all of these methods as well: the player can progress through the game without being required to pick up any fishing rods, and the player can reach the island with no Poké Balls or Rare Candies in their Bag. Since Finneon requires a Good Rod to catch in-game, this setup requires receiving Finneon via a trade from another game. With all of this, if the player saves the game here, they can never leave the island.
