Simon (Japanese: ラング Lang) is a character of the day in the Pokémon anime.

He appeared in The PokéSpokesman with the ability to talk to Pokémon. When he saw that Ash's Pikachu was weak, he asked it what the problem was. He then told Ash that the minerals in the ground were causing Pikachu to lose electricity. He invited them back to his rest stop were Pikachu could be recharged. During there stay, they were visited by Officer Jenny who believed Simon was a fraud. When she was about to arrest him, missiles were fired causing a smoke screen and Simon vanished. Team Rocket saw him get taken by a group of men. It turned out that these men were fake Pokémon interpreters and wanted Simon to join them. Officer Jenny had confused the work of those interpreters with Simon's. He refused to join them saying that what they were doing was wrong. However, they felt that he was a fake just like they were.

Simon eventually leaves them in order to check on Pikachu who had to be rushed to the Pokémon Center because it inhaled the smoke caused by the missiles. It was there that he told Ash that he discovered his ability to talk to Pokémon when he was a boy. However it was much clearer to him when he was younger.

Simon's abilities are finally proven to be real when the fake interpreters send their Magnemite and Magneton to suck up the electricity at the Pokémon Center. He is able to explain to them Magnemite and Magneton that they were hurting other Pokémon by what they were doing and they stop feeding on the electricity. The Magnemite and Magenton eventually turn on there trainers and hold them long enough until Officer Jenny arrives. She thanks Simon for saving the Pokémon Center and arrests the fakes.

Befriended

These are the Pokémon Simon first spoke to. They kept him company while he was down in a cellar during a tornado. He never saw them again.

Trivia

  • Simon's Japanese name, Lang, is a pun on the word "language". His English name may come from the children's game Simon Says.
  • Simon's ability to communicate with Pokémon is not unlike Anabel's.
