Trivia

  • Simipour, along with Yanakkie and Baokkie, and their respective pre-evolutions, are the only non-starter Pokémon that can have a starter Pokémon-exclusive ability. In Simipour and Panpour's case, this is Torrent.
  • Simipour and its pre-evolution are the only Pokémon capable of learning Scald by level-up.
  • Simipour's Sugimori art shows its entire tail to be blue, whereas its in-game sprite, Dream World art, and TCG art depict it as tan with a blue tip.

Origin

Simipour is based on a monkey and a fountain; because of this, it may have been inspired by the water dwelling, monkey-like creature Ahuizotl or may be a visual pun on Sea-Monkeys. The ability to store water in its hair may also reference the Kappa, a Japanese reptillian yōkai that stores water on a dish of sorts on it head. Its chest fur resembles that of a volcano and may have possibly been based on geysers, subaqueous volcanoes, cryovolcanoes or the Guatemalan Volcán de Agua. It, along with its two contemporaries, seem to inspired by the three wise monkeys motif; with its eyes closed, Simipour represents "see no evil".

Name origin

Simipour may come from simian and "pour". Hiyakkie is possibly derived from 冷や hiya meaning cool water, and from monkey. It may also come from the word けっき kekki meaning vigor.
