Roserade (Japanese: ロズレイド Roserade) is one of the Pokémon introduced in Generation IV .

Biology

Physiology

The three spikes that Roserade had on its head when it was a Roselia have been replaced with "hair" made of white rose petals. Roserade no longer has a leafy skirt, but a leafy cape instead. This Pokémon species has eyes that are similar to the Pokémon of Ralts's evolutionary line. The single roses that Roserade had in its hands when it was a Roselia have now become bouquets of roses instead.

Gender differences

A female has a longer cape than a male.

Special abilities

Roserade can generally use any attacks that its pre-evolutions can use, but with greater strength. Roserade is able to learn how to perform Weather Ball. As a fully evolved Pokémon, Roserade can use Hyper Beam.

Behavior

Roserade tend to have quite a deceptive nature. A Roserade lures anything to it with a pleasant aroma and kills the victim with thorny vines hidden within the bouquets it holds in its arms. This is may be how Roserade hunts for food.

Habitat

Roserade lives in fields and woods with temperate climates.

Diet

Main article: Pokémon food

Since Roserade is a plant-based Pokémon, Roserade probably nourishes itself through photosynthesis. Roserade probably eats insects that are attracted to the scent of flowers like the ones Roserade has.

Roserade in the anime

Roserade first appeared in Oh Do You Know The Poffin Plan, under the ownership of Forsythia. Forsythia first met her Roserade when it was a Budew. Roserade also protects Forsythia's garden from being ravaged.

Another appearance of Roserade was in The Grass Menagerie! when Ash was battling Gardenia.

Drew is revealed to have evolved his Roselia into a Roserade by May in DP076, and was first seen in "person" watching the Wallace Cup with Drew in DP079.

In the manga

Gardenia used a Roserade while battling against Berlitz.

Trivia

  • A Roserade costume is available in Pokémon Battle Revolution to the Cool Girl class.
  • Though Jynx is more noticeable, Roserade may have been based on ganguro, a style in Japan that was popular around the 90's where women would bleach (or dye) their hair to blonde or some other light color and wear brighter make-up.

Origin

Roserade is based on a bouquet of roses.

Name origin

Roserade's name is probably a combination of rose and masquerade, due to the appearance of wearing a mask.
