Rhydon glitch
The Rhydon glitch affects glitch Pokémon with an invalid Pokédex number in Generation I when the Pokédex entry is shown upon catching it. All Pokédex numbers from 1 to 151 contain official Pokémon, so are valid. After the Pokédex entry is displayed, an affected Pokémon will immediately revert back to a Rhydon since it is the first species indexed by the game code. Due to all hybrid glitch Pokémon having Pokédex numbers equivalent to official Pokémon, they are not affected by this glitch. Although most glitch Pokémon with a Pokédex number of 0 do not usually show their Pokédex entry upon capture, the fossil and ghost Missingno. can.
If a glitch Pokémon is captured and turns into a Rhydon, it can be changed back into its glitch form by being brought to the Day Care Center. This allows these glitch Pokémon to learn every move Rhydon can. In order for the Day Care trick to work, the Rhydon/glitch must be transferred to Bill's PC when it is captured.
Methods of avoiding the Rhydon glitch
- Obtaining a glitch Pokémon with a Pokédex number less than 152 which is not 0.
- Obtaining a glitch Pokémon which doesn't show its Pokédex entry upon capture.
- Activating the flag which is the same as the obtained flag for the glitch Pokémon.
- Obtaining the glitch Pokémon by evolution.
- Trading the glitch Pokémon from another version to obtain the equivalent glitch Pokémon.
