Several wild Pokémon had a recurring role in the Pokémon anime.

Original series

Fearow

Main article: Ash's Fearow

Fearow's first appearance was the first episode of the anime, where it appeared as a Spearow. It attacked Ash and Pikachu after Ash threw a rock at it. Its second and final appearance was in Pallet Party Panic, where it was shown to have evolved into a Fearow. It battled against Ash's Pidgeotto, who soon evolved into a Pidgeot, Ash attempted to capture the Fearow while riding on Pidgeot's back. Despite its weakened state, he was still unable to capture it, and left Pidgeot behind to guard against any future attacks. It was seen in a flashback in Fighting Flyer with Fire.

Ho-Oh

Main article: Ho-Oh (anime)

The second recurring wild Pokémon in the anime, and the one that made three appearances.

After Ash and Pikachu were exhausted from fighting a flock of Spearow, Ash saw a glimpse of Ho-Oh flying over a rainbow. The Pokédex couldn't record the data of Ho-Oh as it was unknown at the time. Since then, it would often fly around.

Haunter

Haunter
Main article: Sabrina's Haunter

Haunter first appeared in The Tower of Terror. After Ash befriended it, he attempted to use it to battle Sabrina, but Haunter decided to goof off. At the end of Haunter Versus Kadabra, Haunter decided to stay with Sabrina.

Jigglypuff

Jigglypuff
Main article: Jigglypuff (anime)

The fourth recurring wild Pokémon in the anime, and the one that made the most appearances, is Jigglypuff.

Jigglypuff's first appearance was in The Song of Jigglypuff. At first it couldn't sing, but that changed once Brock gave it a piece of fruit which soothed its throat. Jigglypuff followed the gang throughout their journey until the Advanced Generation series. It set a goal to accomplish what it had failed to in the first episode: to have someone listen to its song in its entirety without falling asleep.

Jigglypuff is perhaps best known, however, for its running gag. Whenever it saw that its song put its listeners to sleep, it would inflate angrily, making a distinctive "honk" sound, then doodle over the faces of its audience with its marker.

Slowking

Slowking
Main article: Slowking (M02)

This talking Slowking lived on Shamouti Island, and was the guardian of the shrine located on the island. He gave Ash advice on where to find the Ice, Thunder and Fire Spheres. He later praised the Team Rocket trio, upset that no-one saw them being heroes, telling them that their heroic actions did not go unnoticed.

Slowking reappeared in Slowking's Day.

Suicune first appeared in the anime in the episode Don't Touch That 'dile as a form of energy. When Ash, Misty and Brock were lost in a forest, Togepi and Pikachu sensed something and led the trio to a lake. Suicune was standing on a small island in the lake. At first, Ash did not understand what Pokémon it was and wanted to capture it. However, Suicune ran away towards the direction of New Bark Town as soon as Ash made an attempt to battle it. Ash and group chased it to New Bark from where they began their Johto adventure.

Suicune appeared once again in the episode, For Ho-Oh the Bells Toll!. After Team Rocket had removed a Crystal Bell from Ecruteak's Tin Tower, many Bug-type Pokémon invaded the city. They wrapped Jessie, James and Meowth in a web by using String Shot and blocked off the entry to the Tin Tower. The bugs even attacked Ash, Misty, Brock, Morty and Eusine when they wanted to go to the Tin Tower. Suicune appeared, calming down the Pokémon and freeing the Rocket trio as well as the city from the webs of the bugs. Eusine wanted to capture Suicune and sent out his Alakazam to battle it. Alakazam used a Disable, but Suicune easily blocked it with a Mirror Coat. It then used Roar to send Alakazam back into its Poké Ball and fled from the place before Eusine could even react.

Personality and characteristics

Suicune was a calm Pokémon as shown as it didn't get angry at anyone who tried to battle or capture it.

Pichu Brothers and friends
Main article: Pichu Brothers

The Pichu Brothers were first introduced in the third mini-movie Pikachu & Pichu, where they met Ash's Pikachu who was lost after falling off a nearby building, in which Ash was planning a party celebrating the anniversary of when he and Pikachu first met. Pikachu and the Pichu Brothers went all throughout the town chased by a Houndour who eventually helped them when the local Pokémon Playhouse was collapsing.

They also have a number of friends living in Big Town that regularly take part in their adventures. They have all made appearances in various side story episodes, as well as a cameo at the beginning of Giratina and the Sky Warrior, and the gang have also received their own game for the Pokémon mini, Pichu Bros. mini.

Lugia first appeared in Around the Whirlpool as a silhouette swimming underwater. Ash and his friends who were clinging on their Pokémon, as they were being dragged into a whirlpool (after another mishap involving Team Rocket), when it suddenly disappeared, which was followed by Lugia's mysterious silhouette and its strange call.

In The Mystery is History, it appeared when Oliver, Ash, and his friends were playing with the child Lugia, Silver. Lugia and Silver played with the group underwater.

In A Parent Trapped!, Lugia looked for the child after it was told that it was kidnapped by some members of Team Rocket. Lugia became enraged after finding out what happened until Ash mentioned that the group will find and rescue Silver. When Lugia found Silver in a cage, it went for the cage. Despite the group warning Lugia not to get closer, the parent Lugia was caught alongside its child.

In A Promise is a Promise, Lugia was taken captive to Team Rocket's base. Jessie, James, and Meowth attempt to free it until they got interrupted by Butch and Cassidy. Their battle accidentally freed the adult Lugia and it went on a rampage until it reunited with Silver. Although doing so, pieces of the ceiling were falling down and Lugia protected Silver and the group with Safeguard. After escaping from Team Rocket's base, Silver stayed with the adult Lugia with Oliver saying goodbye to them both.

Personality and characteristics

Lugia is very protective of its child, as shown when people it hasn't seen before were near it. Following Team Rocket's attack, Lugia and Silver left, with Silver having to separate from Oliver.

As Wynaut Megumi Hayashibara Kayzie Rogers

Wynaut is a wild Pokémon who followed Ash, his friends, and Team Rocket around in Blackthorn City. Even though it followed them everywhere, Jessie's Wobbuffet, Ash's Bayleef and Noctowl were the only ones to see it.

Wynaut first appeared in Fangs for Nothin' where it was briefly seen taking some food from Team Rocket. Wobbuffet only saw it doing so.

In Great Bowls of Fire, Wynaut popped its arm out of the bushes while Ash, Misty, Brock, Clair, and Liza returned to the Blackthorn Gym for Ash's Gym battle.

While Charla was about to eat some food in Better Eight Than Never, Liza provided to her, Wynaut quickly snatched the food from Charla, unbeknownst to her.

In Why? Wynaut!. While Team Rocket were spying on Ash and his friends, Wynaut sneaked over and took their snack, putting the blame on Wobbuffet. Wynaut went for Ash's Badges but Wobbuffet caught Wynaut this time. However, despite doing so, it was unable to tell Team Rocket that Wynaut took the badges. Later, Wynaut met Ash's Bayleef and Noctowl while they were searching for Ash's stolen badges. After finishing the berries Wynaut found, Wynaut went back inside a bush. When Team Rocket attacked Wooper and Bayleef, Wynaut jumped out and countered Arbok's Poison Sting and went back hiding in the bush. After defeating Team Rocket, Wynaut found the Rising Badge that Ash needed and gave it to Bayleef secretly. Wynaut left before Ash found out.

Personality and characteristics

Wynaut had a tendency to pop up out of nowhere at random moments, especially in its final appearance Why? Wynaut! when it popped out of nowhere and took the case containing Ash's badges (which Team Rocket had stolen from him) away from Wobbuffet who was guarding the case while its teammates were away. Wobbuffet was very confused and startled to see Wynaut, and panicked even more once Wynaut took the case away just as its teammates came back.

Later on in the episode after the case got open and the badges went all over the place, Ash and his friends as well as Noctowl and Bayleef searched everywhere for the badges. At first they found seven of them, and then Noctowl and Bayleef set out to find the one they had missed, and that's when they saw Wynaut who gave the badge to them, and then Bayleef called to Ash and gave him back his badge and he thanked her and asked her if it had just been lying on the ground. Bayleef tried to explain to her trainer about Wynaut, but it was already gone, causing both Bayleef and Noctowl to become confused, so Wynaut has a tendency to appear out of nowhere when a Pokémon is nearby and then disappear when people come around, showing that there's a possibility Wynaut either doesn't want to be seen by humans, or just likes playing a little joke leaving those who did see it very confused.

Loudred first appeared in A Hole Lotta Trouble, where it ran by and stepped on Jessie when she was climbing up to the next floor or Granite Cave. In the next episode, Jessie fell on top of it while it was sleeping when she hastily ran to catch whatever was attacking Ash and his friends. Loudred then sent her, James and Meowth flying with an extremely loud Screech attack.

It reappeared again in Turning Over a Nuzleaf, where it was pinched on the ear by Ash's Corphish. Loudred ran around in pain, screeching, causing the Silcoon to fall from May's arms and roll off, separating it and the other Pokémon that went to its rescue to become separated from their Trainers. Loudred's last appearance was in A Three Team Scheme! where Professor Birch fell from a Wingull's nest on to it, waking it from its sleep. Loudred screeched at him before leaving.

It appeared in a flashback in Exploud and Clear!.

Personality and characteristics

Loudred does not like to be disturbed while it's sleeping, which it does most of the time, and this could mean that it's a lazy Pokémon. If it gets disturbed while it's sleeping, it'll become very angry and chase after the person or people that woke it up.

Spoink first appeared in Pearls are a Spoink's Best Friend. It had lost its pearl, and Ash and his friends were trying to find it. As it turns out, Team Rocket had found it and had traded it to the Magikarp salesman for a Magikarp. After learning this, the travelers confronted the salesman and demanded he give back the pearl. Team Rocket also demanded he give them the pearl back as well. In the ensuing battle, Spoink's pearl was returned and Team Rocket was sent blasting off.

It made its second, and final, appearance in Clamperl of Wisdom. Like the previous time, it had lost its pearl. This time, it was lost in the ocean without any way of retrieving it. But the travelers learned from a scientist named Isaiah that Spoink's pearls come from Clamperl. Eventually, they found a Clamperl who was willing to give its pearl to Spoink. They said goodbye to Spoink, and it hasn't been seen since that episode.

Personality and characteristics

After losing its pearl, Spoink has a habit of using Psychic to move any round objects (and after a while, even not-so-round objects) on its head, including an angry Electrode, much to the dismay of those around it. It developed a friendship with Ash's Torkoal during its adventures with the group.

Groudon nullified Kyogre's Drizzle with its own Ability, Drought. Groudon fought Kyogre in the ocean. Because of Brock and May's interference with Kyogre, Groudon was able to defeat Kyogre with Solar Beam. After the Blue and Red Orbs went in the sky, Groudon went back in a volcano.

Personality and characteristics

Groudon's personality is unknown as it was only seen awakened once. However, Groudon may be somewhat helpful, as it awoke in order to stop Kyogre from drowning Monsu Island into the sea.

Kyogre first appeared in Gaining Groudon sleeping in the containment room of Team Magma's ship. It was freed by Shelly who infiltrated the ship in disguise as a member of Team Magma. After being freed, Kyogre escaped Team Magma's ship and destroyed it with Hyper Beam. Kyogre was later seen sleeping in its containment chamber on Team Aqua's ship. Kyogre once again escaped after Team Rocket failed to catch it with their net electrified.

In The Scuffle of Legends, Kyogre was out in the ocean near Monsu Island where its appearance caused a heavy downpour and strong winds. Using the Red Orb, Archie took control of Kyogre where he had it attack Lance's Dragonite which Dragonite narrowly dodged the attack and then fought Gyarados. After Groudon appeared which nullified the weather, Kyogre fought Groudon. Because of the interference with May's Beautifly and Brock's Mudkip, Kyogre was defeated by Groudon's Solar Beam which separated the orbs from Archie and Pikachu. Despite Archie being saved by Dragonite, Pikachu fell in the ocean and Kyogre, released from the Red Orb, swam underwater to rescue both Ash and Pikachu. Kyogre resurfaced with the two and both the Blue and Red Orbs went in the sky. With that done, Kyogre returned deep in the ocean.

Personality and characteristics

Kyogre's personality is unknown as it was only seen under the control of Archie. However, it is shown to be immensely powerful, causing large storms and almost able to drown Monsu Island. However, outside of Archie's control, it was shown to save Ash and Pikachu from drowning, which may suggest that it is somewhat helpful.

Later, Solana investigated a cave as it was where the source of the geomagnetic disturbances that have been going on. She went on her own originally but ended up allowing Ash and his friends to tag along since she spotted Max behind some bushes. At the end of the cave, Deoxys emerged from a portal above a meteorite. It ended up battling Ash, his friends, and Solana. Solana tried capturing Deoxys with her Capture Styler but failed as it had to be in Normal Forme. Everyone finds out from Meowth that Deoxys was in pain. Max climbed up the meteorite with Meowth and Deoxys up there. Deoxys creates a Safeguard around it, Max, and Meowth. Max found out that during the space flight, it was cold and scared. Deoxys then took the two to its world.

In Pokémon Ranger - Deoxys' Crisis! (Part 2), Deoxys continued telling Max its story. After Ash and the others returned to the cave, Deoxys came out of its world. Everyone evacuated the cave as the meteorite was overloading with energy while Deoxys went back in its dimension. Deoxys emerged from the portal with Max and Meowth still inside. The group had another battle with it in an attempt for Solana to recatch it. During the battle, Meowth and Max were able to escape the alternate dimension. Sceptile battled Deoxys to get it to change into Normal Forme. Solana used her Capture Styler to capture Deoxys as it was in its Normal Forme and succeeded. Solana has it use Recover to heal itself and then protects the group from the meteorite's strong blast of energy. With the disturbance gone, Deoxys leaves, hoping to visit the planet even more.

Dawn saw the projected soul of Mesprit near Lake Verity in Following A Maiden Voyage!.

A statue and silhouette of the same Mesprit appears in A Secret Sphere of Influence.

Mesprit itself appeared in The Needs of the Three!, where it, along with Uxie, came to Lake Valor after Azelf was captured. However, it was also captured by J and Team Galactic, but before it was captured, it used Future Sight with Uxie, destroying her ship later on. It was then controlled by the team to help fulfill its goal. In The Battle Finale of Legend!, after breaking from their control with the help of Dawn's Piplup and Cynthia's Garchomp, it helped in stopping Cyrus's plot to use Dialga and Palkia.

It seems to be similar to Jigglypuff, as like Jigglypuff, it is also offended as its listeners fall asleep and it inflates itself in anger.

Personality and characteristics

As stated before, this Marill is very similar to the recurring Jigglypuff as it loves to sing for an audience and gets furious when it's audience falls asleep on it. The only difference between Marill and Jigglypuff is that Jigglypuff scribbles on the audience, whereas Marill uses Tail Whip on the audience.

It was then discovered that Hippopotas was lost and he was separated from the rest of the Hippopotas and Hippowdon. Ash and friends helped Hippopotas find his way back to the herd. Like a few other Pokémon, Hippopotas seemed to like to be carried on top of Ash's head.

Jessie had trouble saying the Pokémon's species name; she and her Team Rocket fellows attempted to steal Hippopotas for their boss.

Hippopotas's second and final appearance was in Sleight of Sand! with his father Hippowdon. In this episode, Butch and Cassidy also wanted to kidnap the Hippo Pokémon but they failed.

Personality and characteristics

Hippopotas was shown to be extremely friendly and trusting of Ash and his friends when he first appeared in Mass Hip-Po-Sis, and the reason is because Ash saved Hippopotas when he was stuck on the ledge of a cliff and then gave Hippopotas some food that he had been trying to reach. After Hippopotas was safe and full Ash and his friends continued on, but stopped when they noticed Hippopotas had been following them, and both Brock and Dawn noticed Hippopotas had taken a liking to Ash. In Hippopotas' next appearance Sleight of Sand Hippopotas met up with Ash and his friends once again after getting separated from his friend Hippowdon and he was really sad showing that Hippopotas loves hanging out with his friends.

Reshiram made another flashback appearance in Ash and N: A Clash of Ideals!.

Reshiram was revived from the Light Stone in What Lies Beyond Truth and Ideals!. Following the revival, Colress zapped it with his machine and Ghetsis took control of it. Because of Pikachu and Reshiram rebelling against the machine, Colress and Ghetsis lost control of Reshiram. Before Reshiram flies off, N stopped it and said that he always wanted to meet it. N asks Reshiram how it felt when it saw everyone battle against evil in the ruins and silently responded to him by looking at him.

N also asked if it could believe in humans as they believe in Pokémon. The world of truth that Reshiram wants and the ideal world for humans. N tells Reshiram that just like it, he will keep fighting for the ideal world that everyone can live in. Reshiram accepted N's request and flew away peacefully into the sky.

Personality and characteristics

Reshiram's personality is largely a mystery as it was only seen in flashbacks and under the control of Ghetsis. However, it appears to have a close association with N, and it is able to effectively commune with him.

Malamar first appeared in A Conspiracy to Conquer!. Unlike most wild Pokémon, this Malamar is an independently evil being who conspires to change the face of the world. It hypnotized an Officer Jenny who went to investigate at a radio observatory. As a result, she became Madame X. Together, the two went to a dark cave where Team Rocket were and hypnotized them, save for Meowth, who quickly slashed up his own face with Fury Swipes. With Team Rocket in tow, Malamar found the whereabouts of Ash and his friends by a tree. It took Pikachu with them and forced him to be under their control. By the time Ash, his friends, and Meowth arrived in the observation chamber of the radio observatory, Malamar cruelly took control of Clemont, Bonnie, and Serena. The Automatic Pikachu Retrieving Device that Clemont built earlier entered the observatory and crashes into Malamar, breaking its control over everyone it hypnotized. Officer Jenny went back to normal and explained what happened. Malamar revealed that it tricked them into believing that Madame X was a real person and it was using her as its pawn. Malamar also revealed that Madame X's goal of taking over the world was a lie and hopes to reconstruct the world using a mind control machine. Angered at Malamar's lies and dishonesty, Ash, Officer Jenny, and the gang went after Malamar who led them to a room containing the system of great significance. Since everyone saw what Malamar was doing, it destroyed the weapon that it was building and fled.

Malamar with its two fellow Malamar

Malamar reappeared in Facing the Grand Design! where it had recruited two other Malamar in a plan to distort the world using energy crystals. Malamar and the other two hypnotized the top scientists in Kalos to build the energy crystals. Afterwards, they stole three delivery trucks and recklessly drove them with the crystals to the Grace Tower to get their plan in action. When Team Rocket went to the top of Grace Tower, the Malamar trio spotted them after Inkay became furious at the one particular Malamar for what it did to them previously. Malamar was unable to find the Team Rocket trio after they fled.

Malamar discovered the trio along with Ash, his friends, and the Officer Jenny who it had hypnotized before. The three of them caught Ash, his friends (with the exception of Clemont), Jessie, and Officer Jenny by keeping them frozen in the air through Psychic, leaving Clemont, Meowth, James and Inkay to save the day. Malamar and the other two were defeated after being subdued by James's Inkay, a group of good Malamar and other wild Inkay who James and Clemont had brought to help, their crystals were deactivated by Officer Jenny's Manectric. Despite their defeat and Officer Jenny pointing it out, all of the crystals combined into one and the evil Malamar went in them as a method of escape, allowing all three of them to avoid capture and thus destroying any evidence of their plan. Before they left, they claimed they were heading into the future but swore they would return to fight once more and their plan would succeed someday.

Personality and characteristics

Unlike most Pokémon, Malamar is a cruel and evil Pokémon with a mysterious dark past. Though there have been many mischievous, manipulative and misunderstood Pokémon in the series, the wild Malamar are unique for being one of the only to seek world dominion without any known human influence. Malamar had no trouble with its plans for world domination as it hypnotized people and Pokémon to do its bidding. However, Trainers with a strong bond with their Pokémon such as Ash with Pikachu and James with Inkay are able to break free of Malamar's hypnotic control, or by pain as seen in Meowth's case, snapping out of it by scratching himself - or others such as Ash - repeatedly in the face. The three evil Malamar are shown to be psychopaths for they showed no signs of remorse, guilt, or redemption after their plans were stopped by Ash and his friends. They're also shown to be very merciless when their leader brainwashed several Pokémon, Ash's friends, Team Rocket, Pikachu and Officer Jenny and forced them to attack Ash and Meowth without any decency or mercy. They even lack the sense of honor and morality when they refused to accept defeat or learn from their previous mistakes.

Rayquaza first appeared in Mega Evolution Special II where its slumber was disturbed by Alain and the gang when they excavated a giant megalith. It appears in a fit of rage and violently attacked, fighting against Alain and Steven with their Mega Charizard X and Shiny Mega Metagross, gaining the upper hand before destroying the megalith with Draco Meteor. It then left and returned to the ozone layer.

It reappeared in Mega Evolution Special III where it stopped a battle between Primal Kyogre and Primal Groudon.

Personality and characteristics

Not much was seen of Rayquaza's personality as it was mostly seen in a fit of rage. However, it was shown to stop the violent clash between Primal Kyogre and Primal Groudon when the two clashed.

Wooper and Goodra

Prior to the events of A Slippery Encounter!, Wooper was close friends with a lone Goomy who lived in the wetlands. The two were very happy together and often played with the rest of the Pokémon in the wetlands. One day, while Wooper and Goomy were playing together in a lake, the wetlands were invaded by a Florges and her Bug-type and Poison-type army. During the chaos, Wooper became separated from its friend Goomy as Goomy landed on a fleeing Swanna.

Wooper made its first onscreen appearance in Defending the Homeland! where it got to reunite with Goomy who was now a Goodra. When Goodra, who remembered all the good times it had with it, called loudly for its friends, Wooper recognized its voice and was the first to go find it. When it saw Goodra, it approached Goodra and was happy when Goodra recognized it. The other Pokémon then came out to greet Goodra. Wooper had a happy reunion with Goodra, but this was cut short when Swanna warned then about Florges's arrival.

Florges's army attacked once again. Goodra was able to get Wooper and its friends to fight back, and Goodra bested Florges in the battle. After the fight, when Goodra was recovering from a surprise attack, Wooper stayed with Goodra to watch it recover. During the nighttime, an Ariados kidnapped Wooper, Pikachu, and Dedenne while they were sleeping.

In Beyond the Rainbow!, Wooper was placed in a special cage. It saw that Florges was holding her weakened child. Wooper, along with Pikachu and Dedenne tried convincing Florges that Team Rocket was lying but Meowth cutted them off by accusation. After Ash, Bonnie, and Goodra found and confronted Team Rocket, Florges attempted to attack after hearing the truth but Team Rocket escaped on their mecha taking with them the cages containing Wooper, Pikachu, and Dedenne, and the stolen spring water. Wooper was found on the back of Team Rocket's airship. It was freed after Pumpkaboo accidentally slammed into the panel. After defeating Team Rocket, Goodra placed Wooper on a Yanmega to escape the falling airship.

Wooper was then seen interacting with the other Pokémon after Floette became fully healed. Goodra was then told to stay behind with Wooper and the other Pokémon in the wetlands since it belonged there and it was no longer a Goomy. Thus, it could protect the other Pokémon from future dangers.

Wooper made a brief appearance in Master Class is in Session! and Performing a Pathway to the Future!, watching Serena's Master Class Pokémon Showcase along with Keanan and the other wetland Pokémon.

Personality and characteristics

Wooper was a very close friend of a single Goomy and was almost always with it during its time in the wetlands. It appeared to be the closest friend of Goomy, as the two would often happily play together along with the other Pokémon in the wetlands. Much like Goomy, Wooper is very playful and friendly.

Due to it being especially close to Goomy, Wooper was the first to recognize Goodra when it had returned, now fully evolved. It was also the first to approach it, despite warning from the other Pokémon in the wetlands. It also stayed with Goodra while it was recovering from a surprise attack caused by Team Rocket.

As Litten Chinami Nishimura Lisa Ortiz

In the past, Litten was rescued by an aging wild Stoutland, and the two began to live together. However, the Stoutland soon became too old to search for food by itself, leaving Litten to do the gathering.

This Litten first appeared in Alola to New Adventure!, relaxing on the beaches of Melemele Island before it was accidentally stepped on by Ash when he was racing with Pikachu. Litten, in anger, attacked Ash with Ember and walked off. Litten was later seen in SM004, being fed by an old lady in a marketplace on the beach, where it saw a wild Rowlet carrying off a wind chime.

In SM007, Litten approached Ash and Pikachu in an attempt to get something to eat. When Ash offered it a piece of the sandwich he was going to have for lunch that day, Litten stole the larger portion and ran off, only to be stopped and foiled by an Alolan Persian. Annoyed by Litten's trickery, Ash promised to catch Litten. The next day, Ash and Pikachu saw Litten being attacked by the previous Alolan Persian and stopped it. Litten, despite being on the verge of collapse, protested against being brought to the Pokémon Center, biting and scratching Ash all the way there. After being treated, Ash brought Litten to Kukui's house, but it managed to escape in the middle of the night. Ash, Pikachu, and Rotom followed Litten to an abandoned house, where they discovered that Litten had been gathering food for an old Stoutland. Having learned this, Ash decided to give up on capturing Litten, leaving it to care for its caretaker. Suddenly, the group was attacked by the Alolan Persian from earlier. Ash had everyone leave the house, where Pikachu and Litten then started battling the Persian. Litten eventually defeated Persian, and successfully protected Stoutland. The next day, Ash discovered that Litten and Stoutland had relocated. After being assured by the old lady of the marketplace that Litten was doing fine, Litten appeared from behind her to grab the fruit she had prepared and ran off into the distance.

Personality and characteristics

Litten is a stubborn Pokémon that tends to keep its emotions and motives hidden. Its closest friend is an old Stoutland that once helped it when it had lost consciousness. Litten has been seen training itself with Stoutland's guidance. Litten has a very close relationship with Stoutland, and deeply cared for it, as evidenced by Litten's dreams about it. Litten has difficulty getting close to humans, but seems to get along well with the old lady of the marketplace, often visiting her when it needs food.

A Tapu Koko appeared in Alola to New Adventure!, in which it gave Ash a Z-Ring equipped with an Electrium Z. It reappeared in The Guardian's Challenge!, in which it challenged Ash and Pikachu to a battle. It taught them how to use the Z-Move Gigavolt Havoc and fled after the Z-Crystal shattered from use.

Tapu Koko reappeared in SM009, where Hala revealed that the Z-Ring it gave to Ash was stolen from him. It then watched Ash's battle against a Yungoos, a Gumshoos, and the Totem Gumshoos at Verdant Cavern. The following day, it watched Ash's Grand Trial Battle with Hala. After Ash won, Hala was about to give him a Fightinium Z as proof of his victory, but Tapu Koko quickly stole the Z-Crystal and replaced it with another Electrium Z.

Ash and Pikachu met Bewear after they got lost in a forest chasing after a Grubbin. Ash and Pikachu greeted it with a smile, but panicked and ran off upon seeing Bewear destroying trees nearby in joy. Bewear eventually lost the two after Tapu Koko distracted it and it sighed sadly.

Bewear met Jessie, James, Meowth, and Wobbuffet in SM003, taking them away from battle and to its den in the forest. The following episode, after Jessie catches her Mimikyu, Bewear proceeds to give them some honey before heading off. A tribe of wild Pikipek and Trumbeak soon came and stole all of the Berries in Bewear's den, so Team Rocket agreed to not only catch the Pokémon, but return the Berries to Bewear out of gratitude for what it did for them.

Bewear has since been seen dragging Team Rocket away from a battle before they could be sent blasting off, even going as far as to perform seemingly impossible feats like running on water to rescue them during SM005 and jumping across rooftops in SM006.

Personality and characteristics

Bewear is a friendly and very hospitable Pokémon. After bringing Team Rocket into its den, it began sharing the food it gathered with them and their Pokémon, and allowed them to stay. Bewear is very protective of Team Rocket, but its rescues can be unreliable. In SM012, Bewear even "rescued" the trio just before they were going to defeat Ash and his Pokémon in a fair fight. Bewear's hospitality towards Team Rocket was also shown in SM011, where it was happy to lie with and cuddle them on a patch of grass.

As shown in SM012, Bewear likes to keep its den tidy, hefting large boulders above its head to clear them out from the area in front of its entrance.

Recurring Pokémon that have been caught

Five Pokémon that recurred in the anime were later caught, three by Ash, one by Clemont, and one by Jessie.
