Razor Wind (Japanese: かまいたち Kamaitachi) is a damage-dealing Template:Type2 move introduced in Generation I.

Effect

Razor Wind does nothing on the turn it is selected, other than state that the user created a whirlwind. On the following turn, Razor Wind inflicts damage, PP is deducted, and it will count as the last move used. Once Razor Wind is selected, the user will be unable to switch out until Razor Wind has been disrupted or fully executed.

If Razor Wind is not fully executed, PP will not be deducted, and it will not count as the last move used. If the target uses Mirror Move during the turn that the user creates a whirlwind, Mirror Move will copy the move that the user executed immediately before using Razor Wind (or fail if it cannot).

Sleep, freeze, partial trapping, and flinching will pause but not disrupt the duration of Razor Wind.

In Template:En, Mirror Move will copy Razor Wind on either of the turns it takes to execute.

Razor Wind has an increased critical hit ratio.

From Generation III forward, Razor Wind hits both enemies in double battles.

Trivia

  • Despite being introduced in Generation I, no Pokémon could learn it via level-up until Generation III. In fact, the only way a Pokémon introduced in Generation II could have Razor Wind as a move was to teach it to a Pokémon via TM in a Generation I game, trade it onto a Generation II game, and then breed it.
  • Oddly, despite its Japanese name being Kamaitachi, the two Pokémon based on this yōkai, Sneasel and Weavile, are unable to learn the move at all.
