Rayquaza (Japanese: レックウザ Rayquaza) is a Dragon/Flying-type Pokémon.

Pokémon Ruby

Rayquaza lived for hundreds of millions of years in the earth's ozone layer, never descending to the ground. This Pokémon appears to feed on water and particles in the atmosphere.

Pokémon Sapphire

Rayquaza is said to have lived for hundreds of millions of years in the earth's ozone layer, above the clouds. Its existence had been completely unknown because it lived so high in the sky.

Pokémon Emerald

A Pokémon that flies endlessly in the ozone layer. It is said it would descend to the ground if Kyogre and Groudon were to fight.

Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen

It has lived for hundreds of millions of years in the ozone layer. Its flying form looks like a meteor.

Name origin

Rayquaza's name is likely a combination of ray and quasar.

It is based on Chinese dragons, or lóng.

In terms of relevance to other Pokémon, Rayquaza has similarities to Ziz, the Hebrew lord of the sky, when compared to Groudon's behemoth origins and Kyogre's leviathan origins.

NOTE: When Rayquaza is encountered it is level 70, with the moves Outrage, Extremespeed, Fly, and Rest. The rest of the moves in the list are capable of being learned from the move tutor, which means at one point and time, Rayquaza would naturally learn them if trained from level 5 onward.
