Psywave (Japanese: サイコウェーブ Psychowave) is a damage-dealing Psychic-type move introduced in Generation I. It was TM46 in Generation I.
Effect
Generations I to V
Psywave inflicts a random amount of damage, varying between 0.5× and 1.5× the user's level. The damage can be calculated using the following formula, where X
is a randomly generated number between 0 and 1:
(X + 0.5) × User's level
The damage is always rounded down; however, Psywave will always deal at least 1 HP of damage.
In Generation I, the game will freeze if a level 1 Pokémon uses the move, though this error is only possible with external modification or through the use of other glitches and was fixed in later generations.
Though it is a Psychic move, Psywave deals typeless damage, taking neither weakness nor resistance into account, and not being affected by STAB, though it still cannot hit Dark-type Pokémon without using Miracle Eye.
Generation VI
Psywave's accuracy is changed from 80% to 100%.
