Psych Up (Japanese: じこあんじ Self-suggest) is a non-damaging Normal-type move introduced in Generation II. It was TM09 in Generation II before losing its TM status in Generation III. It regained its TM status, albeit as TM77, in Generation IV onwards.
Effect
Generation II
Psych Up copies both the positive and negative changes to the target's stats and replicates them onto the user. The target's Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, Speed, accuracy, and evasion are copied. Any changes made to the target's stats after Psych Up is used will not affect the user's stats.
Psych Up bypasses accuracy checks to always hit, unless the opponent is in the semi-invulnerable turn of a move such as Dig or Fly. It is not affected by Protect or Detect.
Generations III to IV
Psych Up can be stolen by Snatch.
Generation V onward
Psych Up can no longer be stolen by Snatch.
Psych Up is not affected by Spiky Shield, but will fail if the target is protected by Crafty Shield.
