Professor Carolina (Japanese: カラシナ博士 Dr. Karashina) is a professor that appears in the anime. She is also Cynthia's grandmother. She also appears in the games and in multiple manga, but is not referred by name.

In the games

In the Sinnoh-based Generation IV games, the player is given an Old Charm by Cynthia to deliver to her grandmother. Once the player arrives in Celestic Town, the grandmother tells the story of the lake guardians.

In the games, once the player has faced Dialga or Palkia, she will show a picture of Dialga or Palkia, depending on which version is played. This only registers the Pokémon as "seen" in the Pokédex and does not add an entry. In Platinum, as witnessing the events at the Spear Pillar adds both Dialga and Palkia to the Pokédex, she will instead inform the player of their ability to catch Dialga and Palkia if they own their respective orbs.
