Primo (Japanese: ハジメ Hajime) is a non-player character that appears in Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen and Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver.

In Generation III, his real name is not mentioned, and Primo is known simply as the Poké Dude (Japanese: テレビのおにいさん Television Dude). He is the grandson of the old man in Viridian City who teaches the player how to catch Pokémon in Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow and gives the Teachy TV in FireRed and LeafGreen.

Primo is also the face of Pokémon Daisuki Club website's subsection on Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver. On this site a player can get the passwords needed to obtain the wallpapers from him in Violet City Pokémon Center.

Generation III

Role in the games

Primo appears in FireRed and LeafGreen as the host of the Poké Dude Show (renamed "The Show Me Show" in Generation IV). This television show broadcast on the Teachy TV and is is aimed at Trainers who have just begun their Pokémon journeys. Primo instructs the player on six key gameplay elements:

The Poké Dude Show is filmed on Route 1.

Primo uses these Pokémon when demonstrating on the Teachy TV.

TMs owned

TM Move
TM Fighting TM01 Focus Punch
TM Water TM03 Water Pulse
TM Grass TM09 Bullet Seed
TM Fire TM35 Flamethrower

At the start of the show:
Hey, all you Trainers out there! HELLO, TRAINERS! ...Come on, let me hear you! HELLO, TRAINERS! It's me, the Poké Dude!

Before moving to a particular aspect of the show:
All righty, here goes! Keep your eyes glued to the super Poké Dude Show!

At the end of the show:
Remember, Trainers, a good deed a day brings happiness to stay!

Generation IV

At some point between Generations III and IV, Primo moved from Kanto to Johto. In Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, he is first found in Violet City's Pokémon Center. If the player tells him a secret combination of words there, he will give him or her a new wallpaper for their PC boxes or a Pokémon egg. Each combination differs from between games and is dependent on the Trainer ID number of the game.

Later in the game, Primo will compete in the Pokéathlon's Supreme Cup in the Power Course with his Machamp, Rhydon, and Granbull.

  • He is the only NPC shown to possess a TM Case, though it is natural to assume that other Trainers also own TM Cases.
