Primeape (Japanese: オコリザル Okorizaru) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.
It evolves from Mankey at level 28.
Biology
Physiology
Primeape has a round body covered in whitish, messy fur. Primeape's arms and legs are colored brown. Primeape has metal shackles on its wrists and ankles; this is probably indicative of a method of training with weights. The forepaws seem to resemble boxing gloves, alluding to its nature as a Template:Type2 Pokémon.
Gender differences
None.
Special abilities
Primeape's abilities are similar to those of its pre-evolution, Mankey, only stronger. Since Primeape is a fully evolved Pokémon, it is capable of using Hyper Beam and Giga Impact.
Behavior
Primeape are easily angered. Even the slightest glance of eye contact will make it furious. A Primeape will chase anyone that makes it upset and won't give up until it catches it quarry.
Habitat
Primeape can be found in vibrant forests or in mountains.
Diet
- Main article: Pokémon food
They seem to have an affinity with the Payapa Berry, since they are sometimes found with it.
In the anime
Both Ash Ketchum and Butch have or have had a Primeape. Ash left his Primeape behind in Kanto with Anthony to become a champion fighter.
Wobbu-palooza featured a Primeape belonging to a Festival Crasher.
In A Tyrogue Full of Trouble, a Primeape was causing problems for a small town along with its pre-evolution and a Tyrogue. A trainer named Kiyo was able to capture the Tyrogue, and the Mankey and Primeape joined up with him.
In the manga
Chuck owns a Primeape, seen in Template:PSV working out with him and his Poliwrath. Together with Poliwrath, it used DynamicPunch to reveal Suicune's presence in the ocean off the Cianwood coast.

Trivia
- It is capable of learning Iron Tail despite not having a visible tail. This may likely be due to the fact that Mankey (its pre-evolution) has a tail.
- Every sprite, anime appearance and artwork of Primeape always shows it having an agitated blood vessel mark.
- Its Platinum sprite is almost the same as its Diamond/Pearl sprite, only with a bigger nose.
Origin
Considering its pig-like nose, its coloring, and tendency to fly into a rage if eye contact is made, Primeape has much in common with baboons.
Name origin
Primeape's name may be a combination of prime and ape. It is also likely that its name is a play on the word primate. Its Japanese name can be taken to mean 怒り猿, angry monkey.
In other languages
- German: Rasaff - from rasend (raging) and Affe (monkey).
- French: Colossinge - Colosse means colossus, singe means monkey.
- Korean: 성원숭 Seongwonsung
- Chinese (Taiwan and Hong Kong): 火爆猴 - literally 'fire explosive monkey'
