Polibo (Japanese: ニョたろう Nyotaro), known as Poltaro in Chuang Yi's translations, is one of the Pokémon owned by Gold in the Pokémon Adventures manga.

History

As a Poliwag

As a Poliwag, it was one of the family Pokémon at Gold's home that he grew up with. When the Team Rocket grunts stole Gold's backpack, containing the Poké Balls of his family Pokémon, Polibo's Poké Ball was washed away by the stream and ended up with a wild Granbull, who Gold defeated and got back. After it saw a commemoration picture of Red's party after his victory over the Indigo League, it had hopes to evolving into a Poliwrath, just like how Poli turned out.

After it had much training at the Daycare Center (including fights against a Donphan), when Gold was at the Tin Tower, it evolved into a Poliwhirl when the tower was collapsing due to a Rocket-induced Earthquake and then into a Politoed when was traded to Silver while holding the King's Rock just before the tower had collapsed entirely. Due to the fact that it was now under Silver's ownership, it followed his commands and loafed around when Gold ordered it, trapping the Rocket-owned Piloswine in a Whirlpool. After the two boys healed their Pokémon, it attempted to attack Silver's Tyranitar with its advantageous water attacks, but is thwarted by Murkrow and is beaten.

It was then used in the Lake of Rage to fight back against the rampaging wild Gyarados there, and used its DynamicPunch to fight the Masked Man, but failed as he simply froze his fist.

However, the next time it was used, Gold was able to exploit the fact that the only Pokémon the villain carried outside of the ones left at the Pokémon League was his Delibird, and with a Perish Song, was able to defeat it at the cost of its own health.

In the Emerald arc, it was seen again in The Final Battle IX where it had teamed up with Poli to destroy Guile Hideout's armor with clever combination that befuddled him.
