The Pokémon Video Game Showdown was a massive Pokémon video game tournament. It pitted 128 players against each other in two age groups: the Senior Division and Junior Division. This tournament was, starting in 2009, replaced with the Pokémon Video Game Championships.

Contest workings

128 players assemble in a playing area, and pairs of players are randomly selected to play against each other at small tables with poles with numbers on them and two Nintendo DS Lite systems which are connected to an internal machine by wires; the DS cartridges are inserted into slots on the table. The battles are Double Battles and use the Double Cup rules. Players are gradually eliminated as they lose, until eight remain. These eight will go to the championships in Orlando, Florida. However, the contest continues on to decide the winner of a Wii, three extra Wii Remotes, and a copy of Pokémon Battle Revolution.

Qualifier tournaments

Two qualifier tournaments in the US and two in Japan decide who the top sixteen in each age group of each country are. These 64 players went to the championships in Orlando, Florida on August 15, 2008.

Championships

The championships were held in Orlando, Florida on August 15, 2008.

Event Pokémon

During the championships, a Lucario was distributed to players who attended the event.
